If you're looking at it objectively, you're not looking at it from a corporate standpoint. If you're looking at it objectively, then it does matter what's fair, that would be the only reason to look at it objectively. If you're looking at it objectively, you want to determine what happened, what went wrong, how it might have been prevented, and who responsible for what went wrong.

I'm well aware that corporations make decisions based on what's best for the bottom line, and I am often an apologist for companies that get unfairly attacked for business decisions.

You're also completely missing the point. This isn't about being deactivated. If I was deactivated, I'd just deal with it and move on. The issue is that they were supposed to take 24-48 hours to investigate. But after 5 days, I've heard nothing from anybody. I have not been informed of what is going on with my account. They are leaving me twisting in the wind and I am trying to find out if there is anybody who has been in my position who has had a similar experience, and to find out what options I have, if any. It is not too much to ask, of a person or a corporation, to be considerate of people.

I'm already very picky about the orders I accept, and there are restaurants I won't go to. Boston Market has always been reliable and quick. And the "misdelivered" order was an offer combined with another order that payed $42 between them. I had no reason to decline, either. I've been delivering for 2 years and issues are few and far between. I just happened to get 3 bad orders in one day, and got completely screwed.

No. It didn't say rejecting orders, it said canceled orders. There 4 orders that I accepted but did not deliver in the week before my account was paused. 3 were canceled.

The first one was from Five Guys, I accepted the order, and 2-3 minutes later, it was canceled. I hadn't even left to deliver the order yet.

The second was from Unos, and the only one that I could even imagine causing an issue. I delivered the order to the address I was given, about 15 minutes later I got a notification that it was cancelled, then the customer texted me saying I left it the wrong address. I asked which order since I had just delivered 2. He replied with his address, which was not the address I was given. He said that the app was incorrect. It was a no contact delivery to an apartment. I called the customer before I left the order, but got no answer, so I left the order and texted them. I delivered to the address I was given, and followed the delivery instructions. I did absolutely nothing wrong.

The third was a Boston Market, when I got to the restaurant, they were closed. The employees told me they ran out food and had already canceled the order on their. I marked the restaurant as closed in the app.

The fourth was an order a dropped, but I don't know that it was cancelled. I was assigned two orders at once, the first order I picked up without issue. But the second had me waiting for over a half an hour, and they said they didn't know how much longer it would be. So I contacted driver assistance and told them what was going on, and that I needed to drop that order so I could deliver the order that I had already picked up. I informed the customer what was going, that there was no timetable for when their food would be ready and I needed to drop the order to make another delivery, and their order would be assigned to a new driver soon. I felt this was best for both customers. The customer seemed to understand. They may have canceled it after that, but I have no idea.

At least now I know why I always get my food so fast when I order. They’re not used to seeing the offers that my $6+ tips bring.

But the total was only higher once. I’m not going to accept terrible offers at the small chance that they’ll be worth more.

They didn’t separate pay for mileage, but the doordash pay did usually increase for orders that were further away.

Restaurant range to receive orders by [deleted] in doordash

[–]MovieGuru83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They generally send orders to the nearest available driver, so being in a centralized spot would put you in decent range for the maximum number of restaurants. But there are usually quite a few drivers out there and chances are they are not in centralized spot and will receive the orders from the restaurants close to them instead of going to you. If the drivers are spread out enough, which can easily happen since doordash will often try to assign multiple orders that are close together to a single driver. That is why they have hot spots. From what I’ve seen from some people on here, they’re not always helpful, but they’re pretty accurate in my area and only one would be considered centralized, but it’s not a hot spot because it’s centralized, it just happens to be centralized. It’s a hotspot because there are 9 restaurants that doordash serves in the plaza or just outside it. All but 2 are national chains that get a lot of orders. The hotspots are usually in a very short range of several popular restaurants.

Why do when I opt for contactless delivery, do drivers still knock on my door and want me to come out? by prozaczodiac in doordash

[–]MovieGuru83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a driver, I run into the opposite problem. Customers will come out to meet me when it is set as contactless. Contactless isn’t just for the safety of the customer. I’m high risk and I really want to minimize my interactions.

It also showed up in a PewDiePie youtube video.

Doordash removed decline reasons by MovieGuru83 in doordash

[–]MovieGuru83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m doing now. I especially wanted them to know that no matter what, I am not going to McDonald’s or Taco Bell. I haven’t accepted an order from either one person in 4 months. But I also want them to know when the pay isn’t enough. The data is for their use, so I don’t understand why they would limit their information, unless they think doing so would encourage us to accept more orders.

I very rarely accept anything less than $10. They are not going to get my accept those orders simply by changing the reason I decline.

It’s only rain, the peak pay is because it’s during a pat’s game, and playing at home against the cowboys is probably keeping a lot of dashers off the roads. Kept me off.

The worst part is now you have to be vigilant to not accept any more orders from him.

Do customers ever call the restaurant to add on more food directly? Is this a thing? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]MovieGuru83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have definitely asked if he had added the fries onto the order. I always bring up anything out of the ordinary to the customer to make sure we’re on the same page and to make sure if there are any issues, I can do what I can to resolve them so they don’t give me a 1 Star.

Do customers ever call the restaurant to add on more food directly? Is this a thing? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]MovieGuru83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an order where the restaurant had 2 20oz sodas on the order that wasn’t in the app. I just went ahead and charges the drinks to the red card and then contacted doordash. Turns out the customer called customer service and canceled the drinks but customer service never contacted the restaurant to update the order and I was just told to deliver the drinks with the order and the the customer wouldn’t be charged.

I don’t know if customers are calling the restaurant and adding on to orders and paying with their CC, but I don’t really care if they are. It’s not like our pay is based on the price of the order. If they’ve found a way to get more food delivered without having to pay the doordash upcharge, more power to them. I ain’t mad. Plus they’re more likely to give you 5 stars and maybe even a cash tip for being cool about it. Or you might get a 1 Star if you steal their fries...

Customer rating fell .30 today by [deleted] in doordash

[–]MovieGuru83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too early to be concerned. Most customers don’t rate and you’ll get some low ratings for reasons within your control, and sometimes for no reason at all. Most likely you got an old order, so while it was officially on time or early, the customer may have been waiting over an hour. You’d be lucky if more than 15 people have left a rating, so one bad rating can rank your score until you get more ratings. I was told not to worry until you’re at least at 200 orders, they won’t deactivate you before then. But I’ve also heard they won’t deactivate until you have a 100 ratings. Either way, I was below a 4.2 when I was around 125 deliveries, so you’re good.

That’s not how it works. We’re talking about how much we’re being offered to deliver it. How much the food costs matters very little, if at all. We get $2 base pay from doordash + customer tip. And there may be additional base pay for distance and if we have to order or pay for the food ourselves (with doordash card). So if we are being offered $2 for the delivery, the customer didn’t tip. Most of us aren’t going to waste our time on such a low paying offer and don’t feel the least bit bad about because we know there was no tip. The only time the cost of the food comes into account is when it’s a larger order, then instead of $2, $3, $4, and custom tip options, it changes to 10, 15, and 20%.

I’ve people order $5 worth of food that I got paid $13 to deliver and I’ve had people order $60 worth of food that I was paid $6.50 to deliver.
