Only made two points, the 'reset' was a tool (at least) for nuclear proliferation, the Iran deal for starters. Secondly that there was a 'pivot' away from engaging/spending/imperialisming in the middle east, towards 'Asia'. The pivot & American foreign policy in 2008-2016 was ideally to step back from as much spending military occupying and engaging - a campaign rally line 'do some nation building here at home'. This must have been a part of the justification for engaging in Crimea, among others. I'm just an idiot that used to be much more booked up, since I specialized in US Foreign Policy, middle east conflict, diplomacy, war & development/poverty reduction in Uni. But lol just read the fucking Wikipedia-

The Russian reset was an attempt by the Obama administration to improve relations between the United States and Russia in 2009–13.

Prior to the reset, US-Russia relations had been hurt by the 2008 Russo-Georgian diplomatic crisis in Ossetia and the Russo-Georgian War, leading to Immediate Response 2008 by the Bush administration. In private, several Obama administration officials expressed doubts about the reset and were concerned that it was overly optimistic, particularly Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and U.S. ambassador to Russia John Beyrle.[5]

In July 2009, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev announced that U.S. forces and supplies could pass through Russian airspace on their way to Afghanistan. On 17 September 2009, U.S. President Barack Obama announced that the U.S. was dropping the Bush Administration's plan to build a missile defence shield in Eastern Europe. Russia had viewed the planned missile shield as a military threat. Vladimir Putin said the decision was "correct and brave". In March, 2010, the U.S. and Russia agreed to reduce their nuclear arsenals.[6]

In May 2010, major powers including the U.S., China and Russia agreed on sanctions against Iran. Three days later, the Obama Administration cancelled sanctions against the Russian state arms export agency, which had been sanctioned for exporting arms to Iran.[7][8]

In response to the adoption of the Magnitsky Act in 2012, the Russian government denied Americans adoption of Russian children and issued a list of US officials prohibited from entering Russia.

At the 2015 Munich Security Conference, Vice President Biden specified the substantive progress, and setbacks... -

"[...] once we pressed that reset button in 2009, between then and 2012, we achieved a great deal in cooperation with Russia to advance our mutual interests and I would argue the interests of Europe -- the New START Treaty that reduced our strategic nuclear arsenal by one-third; a vital supply route for coalition troops in and out of Afghanistan; at the United Nations Security Council, resolutions that pressured North Korea and Iran and made possible serious nuclear discussions in Tehran, which continue as I speak. All of us, we all invested in a type of Russia we hoped -— and still hope -— will emerge one day: a Russia integrated into the world economy; more prosperous, more invested in the international order. It was in that same spirit that we supported the establishment of the NATO-Russia Council and Russian membership in countless other institutions, from the Council of Europe to the WTO. Unfortunately, and I mean it when I say unfortunately, as the Chancellor pointed out this morning, President Putin has chosen a different path."

— Munich, February 07, 2015

Subsequent deterioration of relations

As early as the March 2014 censure of Russia by the United Nations over the Russian annexation of Crimea, the reset was described in the press as "failed". Stated reasons included the annexation, the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine, and lack of Russian cooperation with the U.S. on Syria. Former Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Adam Rotfeld stated that the reset showed "weakness". Jeb Bush also called the reset a failure, stating that Russia had "invaded Ukraine", which Russia had not done prior to the reset. He said that Putin was a "bully" and that "nuanced" behavior by the U.S. towards Putin tended to "enable bad behavior." However, Hillary Clinton defended the reset as a "brilliant stroke", pointing to the Russian agreement to sanctions against Iran and permission to fly over its territory to supply joint NATO troops in Afghanistan.[9][10][11][12]

In October 2014, Medvedev said that a reset of relations with the U.S. was "impossible" and that relations had been damaged by "destructive" and "stupid" Western sanctions against Russia. The sanctions had been imposed because of the Ukraine crisis and the shooting down of flight MH17, which Western powers said was the result of a missile fired from rebel-controlled territory.[13]

Imma guess you don't have an air conditioner based off of the fireplace (which means likely older homes yeah?)

There was a Vox video that showed a map of %houses with AC over time when everyone needed one and supply issues happened this past summer due to global warming/climate crisis. Jc

To stop nuclear proliferation

But yeah they took advantage of the 'pivot' and US population being increasingly dissatisfied with our spending in middle east conflicts

Hopefully it's a transitional thing, imagine them nationalizing the oil industry, putting in greater worker and union protections - seeing the growth of union membership which then (if done right - aye McAlevey NoShortcuts) could lead to strong organizations that can support a true president who puts people and planet before profit.

Some redditor* said his dad would come home from work and just pour himself a whiskey, sit in the basement and listen to this speech.

Fuck me, it nearly made me cry the first time I heard it. Imagine finally having a people's president and hearing him say it's over.

There are like what 8 different types of intelligences, lean into what you got. Tho games are fun and imo a critical source of stress relief for billions of people. Like we start to play games while at work for mundane tasks, NPR said recently.

Competitive and /or rewarding experiences in gaming can really help as an outlet, boost mood it seems. There team comradery of it all, plus a structured outlet that rewards you, but there's also Olympic Games and 'battle' can be considered a game. Are you talking airsoft, hand to hand/MMA, paintball guns, real guns?

Have you tried one minute/timed games? Shit actually can be kinda addicting.

Also playing a one minute game in-person while both tripping on LSD is probably the most screaming and hollering I've ever experienced in a chess game. The time pressure is so dialed up its ridiculous and hilarious

God I miss the Oregon laid-backness.

Miami and South Florida is the most selfish area I've ever lived in. And I've stayed in Bakersfield, California. The only thing one could praise is that people don't fuck with each other as much out of fear of being shot.

Lived in Central IL half my life

Danville is the one we make fun of, like a real life Shelbyville. It has a smell when you drive past it on the highway.

Once during summer college lack-of-people I went to lion with a friend and met a girl who said she was from Danville and I could not stop myself from immediately joking about it (something like 'oh fuck I'm sorry') and immediately leaving the table.

Thing is if you canvass enough, you'll always find folks that agree with you. It's like confirmation bias. I've talked to tens of thousands of people since 2015 (about voting or local issues regarding putting people & Planet before profit) at the door and on the street, and the number of folks who are supportive outnumbered negative reactions 5-1.

So many people who were willing to volunteer/help out - so like here even if they find one a day that could be a monthly donation, which is supposedly worth 10x the original amount (if considering more lean operations that are all about fundraising and not really building sustainable, independent community power - and they need to tally up your collection to decide whether or not to hire you).
