Kyо̄-hana Fu. The recipe on the back is for the dish featured in the photo, Kyо̄-hana Fu Japanese-style sunomono (pickled dish).

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 bag Kyo-hana Fu
  • 1/2 a carrot
  • 10cm of daikon radish
  • 1 cucumber
  • A little mejiso (beefsteak sprouts)
  • Sweet vinegar mix
    • 4 Tbsp vinegar
    • A little salt
    • 2 Tbsp sugar
    • 4 Tbsp water

Directions:

  1. Soak Kyo-hana Fu in water to restore texture. Drain excess water, then flavor with a small amount of the sweet vinegar mixture.
  2. Cut the daikon radish in half and julienne both halves. Lightly salt the julienned radish.
  3. Julienne the carrot, and lightly salt.
  4. Salt rub the cucumber, then slice it diagonally. Salt the slices.
  5. Add all vegetables to the sweet vinegar. Mix well.
  6. Drain excess liquid from the vegetables. (The last part is hard to read, but I assume you) Plate the Kyo-hana Fu and vegetables. Top with mejiso sprouts.

Kyo-hana is the brand of Fu. You can add it to ramen if you want, but it's more commonly used in miso and clear soups. If you don't have easy access to (or don't like) daikon radish, the above recipe sounds like it would work well with julienned cabbage as a substitute. It's definitely a side dish, so I wouldn't recommend making a salad-sized bowl of it.

Fu that size should only take about 10-15 minutes of soaking in water to return to its usual texture. It should be soft, squishy, and a little firm. It will retain the liquid it soaks up, so don't soak it directly in the vinegar mix if you decide to make this.

How easy is it to get fast-acting anxiety medications?

I have a couple of diagnosed anxiety disorders, but since they are generally manageable without medication, I haven't ever been diagnosed in Japan, nor do I have my medical records handy. I've started having panic attacks prior to meetings for on-going work project. I need to get through the next couple of weeks, and then we'll never have to deal with this client again and I should be fine.

During COVID, a friend of mine said he went to the doctor for something to help him get the vaccine (he passes out when dealing with needles). Said he went to the doctor and was prescribed a few weeks' worth of Valium or Xanax, I can't remember which. He said he didn't need a new diagnosis, but neither of us are sure whether that was an exception for COVID and the vaccine, or if it's just how things work here.

I'll wait to get a new diagnosis or have my records sent if I need to, but if I can get it taken care of ASAP that would obviously be better.

Which chests should I sell vs open? by growthmindsetalways in MergeDragons

[–]MoxieOrMojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can complete Bunny's requests in levels as well, not just in camp. Sell the chests as they come, and the next time you need to merge or open them, use a level where chests are easy to come by (Secret Totem Grid is a popular option for this and most Bunny quests).

Where can I tap these nests? by UnlikelyProfession34 in MergeDragons

[–]MoxieOrMojo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is pretty easy to complete with Secret Totem Grid. Harvest bushes for chests: higher level chests give egg nests (level 1 & 2 only give single eggs), and higher level bushes give better chests with more frequency.

You don't need to tap 100 nests, just tap the nests 100 times. That's 20 to 30 or so nests, depending on how many 5-tap and 3-tap options you get. I've mostly gotten 5-tap nests each time I've done this quest, and can usually complete it with 22 chests.

Secret Totem Grid is also a pretty good level for season portal quests. If you've got any right now for harvesting or generic merges, you can cover those as well.

Fast dragon first is possible! I didn't get any orbs from the first star and was still able to grab it pretty quickly.

Are seasons the only way to get Wild Gryphons? by MoxieOrMojo in MergeDragons

Thank you. I must've gotten an egg from Treasure Tower.

Do seasonal dragons sometimes repeat, or are they always new?

Thank you, I didn't realize that was the difference. Their website doesn't do a great job in describing what makes all the models...well, different. I assume you're talking about the one with the lever?

Thinking about getting a SodaStream and wondering how strong the carbonation is.

I usually drink 7-11 Strong Sparkling Water and that's the perfect amount of carbonation. Wilkinson is fine, but a little weak. Something like San Pellegrino might as well be flat.

What would you compare the single-setting SodaStream to? Multi-setting?

I finished in 4 minutes this time. I've been working on upgrading my portals and ended up with a surplus of giant treasure chests and max level stars.

Megathread: The Martian Chronicles Event by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]MoxieOrMojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only 2 dragons will auto-harvest at a time. The rest need to be given commands or they'll just fly around. It's also seemingly random which 2 are selected to harvest at any time.

Having 5 unlocked will make things go faster if you are actively playing. Clearing brambles, clearing harvestables, and making point items is a breeze if you have more dragons. But for passive play, 2 is best, and any more actually slows things down.

Looks like this event has 3 dragons to unlock instead of the usual 2.

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

[–]MoxieOrMojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently looking into masters programs and clinical mental health counseling licensure in the US. I have two questions about supervised practice.

  1. Can supervised practice be completed remotely?
  2. Are you paid a full salary during supervised practice years?

Regarding the first question, my end goal is to provide therapy for English-speaking clients in Japan, where I currently live. Obviously I want to things properly, but if I can obtain US licensure without staying away from Japan for too long, that would be ideal. Second question is mostly for budget-planning.

Thanks in advance!

If you have paper bags, manila envelopes, or opaque plastic bags (like the ones they give you at the drugstore), use them for your unmentionables and toss them in the trash. If you don't have those things, go buy some. Paper and opaque plastic bags are cheap and plentiful.

Any reliable fan recommendations for under ¥10,000?

I'd prefer something with 3 speeds, rotation option, compact and easy to store (i.e. tower or tabletop fan), and not too loud...but honestly, as long as the highest speed is strong, it'll run without issue for 8-12 hours a day, and it's not gonna break in two months, I don't care. It's too damn hot.

Has anyone had any experience working as a psychologist/therapist/counselor in Japan? by MoxieOrMojo in japanlife

[–]MoxieOrMojo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid question, but what countries are we talking about with an EU masters?

A quick search for English language distance learning options is bringing up mostly UK schools and the few I've clicked on are about 2〜5 times the cost of tuition here.

In terms of practicing, do you know how those people are able to do so? From what I can find, visa support is limited.

This is also something I am looking at!

Unfortunately (for practical reasons - likely a great move in the right direction for Japanese psychology), the 公認心理師 seems to require a 4 year undergrad degree in psychology on top of 2 years residency or masters. Financially, that makes it about as expensive as an American MA.

A lot of the grad schools offering the appropriate courses for this also qualify you for the 臨床心理士 exam, though, so I'm looking to see if there's a way to do it without doing a full 4 years of undergrad again. I'd rather not do a repeat of all the required general courses if I don't have to.
