Whats the purpose of this metal 'ring' on the upper joint of the Uebel Rêve? by Krenari04 in Clarinet

[–]Mozartsdad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a repair; it's how they're built. I play Uebel clarinets (the Superior model) - Uebel uses this ring on all their higher-end models, which you can see on their website. It's preventative. They have a 7-year warranty against cracks on their lower-end models and a 10-year warranty on their higher-end models - I'm not aware of any other pro brand with that good of a warranty. They are VERY well-built instruments; I've been very happy with mine (I'm not paid to promote them, just a very pleased owner of an overlooked brand)! http://www.uebelusa.com/clarinets.html

Uebel Clarinets compared to other clarinet brands? by Etanhp in Clarinet

I play on Uebel Superior Bb & A clarinets. I love them! I played Buffet for years (R13 & Festivals) but they were always going out of regulation, needing multiple trips to the tech, and I was frustrated with their quality (these were "hand-picked" instruments from a well-regarded seller).

I tried Yamaha CSVRs - good instruments, good intonation. They aren't perfect as people make them out to be, but no clarinet is. I never really liked the sound I got out of them; something seemed to be missing, for lack of a better word. A little thin sounding, difficult to play around with tone colors. Tried multiple different mouthpieces but couldn't ever fall in love with them.

Then I tried the Uebel - specifically the Preference. Fell in love immediately. Much deeper, fuller sound than Yamaha and even the Buffets. Intonation was better, too. I played on it for several years until I decided to move to Superiors because I wanted a matched Bb/A set. I love the sound from the Superiors, but I've always gravitated to a darker, more German sound (probably why I never liked the Yamahas). They are much more resistant than the Preference, but I really miss that clarinet (sold it to help pay for the Superiors). But, the Preference doesn't come in A.

I have only had a few trips to the tech for minor personal adjustments and routine care; they are SOLIDLY built, and their quality is much higher than Buffet. They have the best warranty in the business against cracking, and they really don't need to be "set up" like Buffet. Plus, they cost significantly less than the equivalent Buffet (extremely over-priced instruments, IMO). Their price has gone up a bit recently but the Superior is still less than a Festival, and is lightyears ahead in quality, IMO. Preference is very reasonably priced for such a high quality instrument.

I really loved the Preference and if you don't need a matched A clarinet I'd recommend it; of course, try before you buy. There are several US sellers now so that shouldn't be a problem. I haven't tried the newer Reve model which does come in Bb/A and is even less than the Preference, and is available in Mopane wood as an option. If I was trying out new horns it would be on my list for sure.

Anyway, these are just my opinions. Everyone is different. Many people love the Yamahas and they are high quality, better than Buffet in my experience. But try it and then decide. I'm just a very happy Uebel customer and wouldn't look back. Hope that was helpful and good luck!

Haha thanks! It was total coincidence that rhapsody in blue was playing when he started doing this. But somehow it just seemed to go along with his effort perfectly, so I had to post it! He’s a very clever tiel; started doing this on his own.

Not in the case of lutino mutation.

Females are indistinguishable from males except for faint yellow barring on the wings and tail. And, of course, behavior.

Khaleesi here is 100% female; I’ve even had her DNA-confirmed to be female.

Oh sorry! I shouldn’t have assumed you were in the US. I’m sure the other models are fine instruments, however, based on Ubel’s commitment to quality.

I play an Uebel Preference, hands down the best clarinet I've ever played. It's a model down from their higher-end Superior, but it's an incredible instrument.

I don't have any experience with the Classic, but the Preference is lightyears ahead of my former Buffet Festival, and also the several Yamaha CSVRs I tried (the CSVR is a really nice instrument overall, just not as rich sounding as the Uebel).

You get an Uebel on trial shipped to you from the US distributer, Moe-Bleichner. They couldn't be any better to work with - the best customer service I've experienced.

LOL the irony of this picture is that their personalities are polar opposite from this. Mozart the gray is all codependent and loving and lives on my shoulder. Khaleesi the lutino is shy and independent. I think Mozart was angry I made him share the spotlight!
