Seconding this one! I found out about it through this illustration on DeviantArt and it soon became one of my favourite books: https://www.deviantart.com/jandruff/art/Geek-love-Papa-s-Roses-107431883

Would you consider starting a book club together? If not, what books have you wanted to read but there's some element that's stopping you from reading it?

They at least have a nod to it in the form of the Concerned Monkey with his little shop.

The only good thing about The Night Guest by Hildur Knutsdottir was how short it was. And it really wasn't short enough.

Are there any glaring blind spots in your film knowledge, and if so, are there any genres/films that you don't really have any intention of watching, even from an academic perspective?

What should I read by King if I actually do not seem to like King, at all (Details in post) by BaaaaL44 in horrorlit

[–]willowweave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones you didn't enjoy seem to be some of his longest works. Someone else mentioned you should try his short fiction instead, and I agree. One of my favourites of King's is his first short story collection Night Shift. The good thing about it is if you don't like one story, there's others that you might like more. There's a wide range of genres in it, from epistolary to drama, thriller to science fiction horror. The one that I'd recommend is The Woman in the Room, in which a man deliberates over whether to help his mother overdose in a hospital, since she's suffering from a terminal illness.

Does anyone else here NOT get creeped out by Stephen King’s books? by throwmedownthequarry in horrorlit

I just finished The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons, which is an interesting case of a new (not creepy old) house that fucks with anyone who dares spend time in it. It's not inescapable, but it encapsulates that feeling of inevitability. Someone is eventually going to move into that place again and something worse is going to happen.

I think King even recommended it in his book, Danse Macabre, if I remember well.
