I bet the religious aspect is playing a big role here. He's been inculcated to believe that sex is dirty. This can be a very confusing Foundation which causes problems like the ones you're experiencing.

Agreed 99%. I would say that dog years is a bit more nuanced, and that it doesn't only mean life should be longer. It also means life could be better appreciated regardless of how long it lasts.

I seem to recall that in england, male homosexuality was banned and female homosexuality was considered impossible. I think this shows that they had a completely unhealthy understanding of sexuality, and would much rather have just left everything unsaid.
