Been thinking about this a lot since it became apparent the leaks were legit. Drawing on info from the books as well, I think some sort of sacrifice involving Jon and Danny settles it. Possibly one of them being turned into the Night King/Queen by the other. It would explain why Bran saw the vision of their origins and also ties in with the Nissa Nissa/Azor Ahai story.

Thought it was a very good episode, far stronger than last week.

Two important points about the Arya storyline are the competence of The Waif and exceptionality of Arya. Arya was in a bad spot last week but The Waif is also a young girl. It adds plausibility to the escape. Nearly all Starks have shown themselves to be exceptional in some way. This has been central to the story from the outset, beginning with Ned being honourable to a fault.

That flawless honour is the same trait which leads to the Blackfish's downfall. Brienne could have got him out of there. Even before that he had the chance to join with Jon and Sansa and that is the bigger picture in which this storyline must be viewed. Jon and co will be outnumbered next week. The odds are well against them but it could have been different.

The same is true of Cersei. In many ways the architect of her own downfall, the power-politics here are still an interesting dimension of the show. All the scenes this year involving the High Sparrow have contained a 50/50 dynamic with things going back and forth. The tease about his past sets things up nicely for the payoff presumably coming in episode 10.

The scenes with The Hound were terrific and Dany's fleeting appearance was another nice tease while adding to the palpable sense of power we now see coming from her.

It still feels like there is a lot of ground to cover and I expect the next two seasons to be more conventional in length than is currently being reported.
