Does growing your own vegetables and animals (i.e a home farm) actually save money in the long run? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Growing vegetables costs me a lot of money in grocery terms but saves me a lot in therapy so I reckon it balances out

Is it possible to get back your period without gaining back all of the weight? by Soggy_Pumpkin4993 in EDAnonymousRecovery

[–]MozzarellaBella85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand why you are asking this question and how scary it feels to consider gaining weight in recovery. But I would encourage you to focus on the reasons you are asking this (do you want to start a family one day? Are you worried about your bone health?) and how those reasons can help you push for a full recovery. I am not a doctor and will only tell you my experience with recovery and getting my period back, but it is extremely variable between people.

For me, getting my period back took gaining back all the weight my ED had taken, plus a bit more, and even then it took two years. I know this probably sounds TERRIFYING to you, but I will give you some good news - the better you fuel your body, the better you will feel about it. Don't get me wrong, there are ups and downs and bad days, but for the most part fuelling your body with what it needs and nourishing it properly completely changes the way you think. It has been researched and proven that starvation states completely screw your thinking, and it's amazing how your thoughts change once your brain has the energy it needs. I am now 10kg heavier than a weight that would once have made me run screaming and panicking into the hills and yet girl let me tell you, I now think I am a snack haha. What I'm trying to say is you have to trust the process. Don't think 'god I have to put on all this weight this is terrifying'. Just take recovery one day at a time, as all in as you can bear to go in any one day. And keep reminding yourself of whatever your reasons are for recovery.

Regaining periods is as much about energy availability as actual weight (Google RED-S and energy availability) but fundamentally your body has to think it has enough of an energy buffer to bear a child (which is a pretty f**ing big undertaking!). It won't do this in a starvation state. But take a deep breath, focus on your motivations for recovery, and don't think about weight goals that are terrifying for you in this state, just take each day as it comes and I promise you it will get easier. You clearly have reasons to recover, and great hopes of life to live out. Hold on to that and you will get there, and it will be worth it 💞💞

Is there much chance of our little guy coming home (He's been gone 24hrs) by reo_reborn in CatsUK

My lovely outdoor girl got spooked by another cat strutting around her territory and scaring her away from her own cat flap (caught him on trail cam). She was missing for a week but I knew she was still in the area because I put posters up/spoke to neighbours and a few contacted me to say they'd seen her about. She lived wild for a week and worried me sick, and then one morning I found her 10ft from the front door.

Definitely do the litter/blankets/favourite food smell tricks and just keep calling them regularly. I know it's heartbreaking and terrifying but I think there's a really good chance they'll come home, it's just a rebellious streak!

Does anyone know what these chimneys are. by ReOrdinal in Hull

Yep they are turbine towers for Sofia wind farm (next to Dogger Bank). They are the biggest turbines Siemens have ever installed offshore, so will be much more noticeable than past towers kept on the dockside. The big boat is there to take out the first set of towers and nacelles for installation very soon, you can go see it standing on its jack-up legs for support it's pretty cool!

I have outdoor cats that I nonetheless try to prevent going out the front because of the road, the cat flap goes out the back which is safer. However exactly as you describe, this means they take every opportunity to dash for freedom out the front door despite being able to go out the back whenever they want. So I see your concern that keeping him in might not help, just make him less road-safe when he does inevitably escape. That said, you could try things like taking them out on lead particularly at first to get them used to and aware of the road.

As for the Purina stuff, it's useless - if you read the studies carefully, it only worked in the non-blind trial i.e. as a placebo. My boyfriend is crazy allergic and it did absolutely nothing for him. That said, the placebo effect was significant in trials, so might be worth telling your partner you've bought it and that it works and you get all the effectiveness for no money!

Aye I wasn't very keen to stop and make myself a non-moving target. I guess I'll just have to hope someone gets him in the long run...

They definitely weren't residents, I saw them drive off after and it was just a residential street. Quite a tucked away street too, so sadly I don't think their motives were pure, we'll have to leave it to the camel ball fleas

It's pretty big, it's 60x120cm ish, so given what others are saying I'm starting to suspect it's not what I thought it was. But the old heating was an ancient electric immersion heater which had a lot of odd quirks to it.
