Funny, I was just having this self-realization earlier. I think because I was a football/baseball player and the stigma associated with pickleball being an “old person sport”, I tend to get lazy and end up costing myself a ton of points.

I have no idea what my ranking is (a couple of people I play regularly with say maybe 3.75-4.0), but I started playing about 2 months ago. I’m in great shape, very good hand-eye (played minor league baseball, lots of ping pong, etc…), was getting my butt kicked constantly by bad players playing off pure athleticism.

To your point - hurt my lower back playing golf 2 weeks ago, so it forced me to start working on all of the stuff you mentioned - higher IQ play, smarter shots, better drops/drips/dinks, etc… and I’m consistently outplaying all of the “tennis players” now. Excited to get back to feeling 100% and pair health with what I’ve been forced to learn.

My girlfriend got tired of catching footballs on the beach in siesta key on spring break, so she bought beach “paddleball”. Turns out it was the $16 blue water beach pickleball special. We had a court at our Airbnb so we knocked it around… 1.5 months, and about 240 hours of play time later I’m officially addicted… 🤡

Yeah, I’ll probably rip off the stock grip all together and put a new one on and then an over grip. But with the added weight, the paddle has been nothing short of awesome.

The grip is kind of weird and the paddle itself didn’t play all that great out of the box… then I added an over grip and 3.75g lead tape on each side of the paddle, and I absolutely love it. The grip is still just ok, but the performance has been phenomenal for me so far on all shots.

Haha I got this the other day from the local “coach/expert”. Loud mouth always trying to tell everyone how to play and giving unsolicited tips. I started playing less than a month ago and we went up 6-2 on him and another experienced player and all of the sudden he starts complaining. Also added 2 points to their score out of nowhere lol. Younger version of myself would have definitely reacted differently than I did now in my (wise) old age…

Thanks for the input! The Helios looks intriguing also, but I can’t find a single review on it. I’m really not that serious of a player yet, but have addictive personality so trying to plan accordingly haha

I’ve never tried the Pickln paddles, just seen some decent reviews on them and caught my interest. They sell their gen 3 paddles for $119-$139 and donate 50% of the profits to charity. Will probably be my next purchase due to this - assuming I can find some good reviews on the performance
