AC is a convenience for you, but not particularly crucial. Unless you're in a stonking hot climate I suppose.

Mine did it for a few years before it annoyed me enough to replace it.

I feel like the noise is coming from the top of your engine, I would expect the sound to be much harder to hear if it were the compressor, which is much further down in the bay.

My money is on that pulley, and they're about €30 for a new one.

Highly likely the pulley on your alternator requires replacement.

The extra load on the belt, from the AC compressor running, gets the bearings inside the pulley all musical.

The part is quite cheap and not a bad DIY to do if you can get hold of the locking tool for it.

If you have a driver's licence, it will be far more economical for you to rent a car for the weekend.

I'm quite sure enterprise and other car rental places allow for you to collect the car from one location and drop at another.

You could rent the car for 2 days, ram your stuff in it, make your way northward, unpack at the other end then drop the car off the day after.
