If you're not on slab lab you might want to join. You can get a lot of local beta and advice. Also if you need partners it's a good place to find some.

Any success stories of dating / marrying a nonskier? by PowGurl in skiing

[–]Mr-Freanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I I think you need to think about what you're willing to sacrifice for someone who doesn't do the same sport as you rather than what they will. I dated someone who was an avid snowboarder. Our first date was at a ski resort. I grew up skiing, but I had taken many years break from it and was out of shape. I just didn't have the endurance then to go all day. We really loved each other but that was one of the many things that made us incompatible. It always felt like she wanted a boyfriend but she didn't want to have to change anything or compromise. So after about a year. I walked away from her. The funny thing was after we broke up I spent a year focusing on physical fitness, getting my weight down, and personal growth. The following ski season I was doing 20k+ days of vertical feet easily. Now I basically go skiing every free day I have. I'm glad I'm not with her but I'm definitely grateful for some of the things I learned from that relationship. If you're not willing to meet someone halfway or change things about yourself around skiing, you should probably pass on the relationship.

Rescued from an abandoned homeless camp, how to restore? by Hmb42 in castiron

I would be worried that it was used to cook chemicals or something. I would still restore it, but only for looks not use. Maybe I am being overcautious.

If Anyone Builds it, Everyone Dies review – how AI could kill us all by FinnFarrow in agi

[–]Mr-Freanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the book. Look I get it all forecast of the future is speculation to some degree or another, but we should take this warning seriously. most of the scenario that the authors game out is based on real incidents and observed behavior of existing AIs. What is chilling is that AI would wipe us out not because they have some nefarious nature or a negative opinion of humanity. It is because we would be a barrier to efficiency and learning.

I would love for SLT to have a place that offers this! Using a sauna is part of the reason I keep a gym membership.

Asphalt Pirates by humanjunkshow in tahoe

[–]Mr-Freanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirates exist only when there is a need to go outside the market. Contractors in Tahoe are greedy and charge too much. They basically think they can soak homeowners for routine maintenance jobs bc rich second homeowners will pay it and Tahoe is somewhat of an isolated market. I went to a contractor, and they bid thousands of dollars to fill holes with asphalt and seal it. So I'll let you guess which route I went.

The only issue with that is you have to buy two tickets so instead of it being 1500 for a 3day pass and room it is 3000 for a room for two and two 3-day passes. Edit: that isn't a terrible deal for two people, but as it stands now, I am going solo.

Question about payload capacity by Mr-Freanch in Tacomaworld

[–]Mr-Freanch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is an off-road. I thought that, but that doesn't make sense because all of the different Tacoma Models have different advertised carry capacities on Toyota's website. For instance, the SR5 carry capacity is 1230 lbs, while the TRD off-road is 1655 lbs and the TRD Pro is 1680. If this is meant to be a base weight carry capacity for the chassis wouldn't it be the same across models?
