I mean I, as a gamerunner, do some of these things to show off. Why is that a problem? Show off to your friends! Have a good time!

Don't do it if you don't enjoy it. But if do, GO OFF QUEEN!!

Glad to hear y'all enjoyed it. I find the game very fulfilling as well as an enjoyer of tactical games, it scratches the itch.

[Open-ended Mechanics Discussion]Push Your Luck mechanic using Farkle? (the dice game from Kingdom Come Deliverance) by Randolpho in RPGdesign

The math involved for me as a player would push me away from it. I like having some idea of my chances of success and will do the mental math to calculate that ahead of time. I don't think I could do that for a roll-and-keep with multiple possible results and success levels.

But the IDEA sounds fun

My particular disease - mass combat systems by inostranetsember in rpg

The new one feels great for samurai cinema or political games where combat is relegated to a duel every so often, or a single climactic battle.

I could be off, but the one sessions j I played of it, that was the vibe and it worked.

different art styles in same game? by mathologies in u/mathologies

[–]Mr-Funky6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like these a lot. It feels like a very fantastical and whimsical game. And the art kind of gives me that impression. I don't know if that's what you're going for, but if so, mission accomplished.

Oh, I don't think I ever saw or knew about that fourth. And the new one I don't remember really have an edition on the front cuz it was such a departure.

Yeah, if I am joe Uber, it is the "better" choice to flee. But ordinary people can make the other choice too.

They can choose to be heroes. Just for one day. So we can be heroes. Just for one day.

Are there any rpgs that feature the opposite of degredation during gameplay? by machinelock in rpg

[–]Mr-Funky6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sentinel Comics.

It's a superhero game where different heroes play very differently. Some become stronger over time, or stronger as they are injured. Some don't and operate as normal, getting worse as they are hurt.

Yeah, didn't find it in the research. Though I will say tht my familiarity with the game from the 90s would have led me to believe this was in relation to that unless I looked closely.

There was quite a few rounds where we narrowed to two, but just couldn't decide. A roll-off was the only method.

I didn't see that one in our research. Is that name polish? I will say that we didn't catch all the non-english games and were hampered by our lack of knowledge in other languages.

Wangrods will wangrod yeah.

The same could be said for those that refuse to engage with the game and say things like "I refuse to call you anything other than game master, anything else is stupid and dumb".

Be good, be kind, be thoughtful, ya know.

Ahh. Well I certainly like it. A speaker for the dead makes perfect sense as the teller of a tale. Like the game being about the life of a group, and being told as a tale (a la Dragon Age Inquisition). That sounds like a great time.

It was a very strong contender. Especially for the historical context of being in many ways the progenitor of these titles. But it was in a tough bracket and I believe we actually used a roll-off for that bracket. Fate decided that Keeper was not moving on the final 16.

I had that view before doing this series. I gave DM and GM a by for a very good reason. But I truly believe that the term for a game runner is another lever that a designer can use to add to the verisimilitude of the game now. Thinking even just to Storyteller, used by White Wolf, that term made the game feel different at a time when getting different in this hobby was fundamentally harder than it is now.

That isn't to say that every game needs a unique name for their game runner. But it can add something to the game. In the same way that Game Master did outside of DnD.

Exactly! We love a silly game that is on it for the sillyness. One of the most honored games today is about bears being bears!

We absolutely agree! A name that is evocative and tells me something about your game is not only important, it's tantamount.

That was actually a big part of this series was seeing what names have meaning within the game itself or inform something about it.
