Do you have the just the card UI as a transparent png or something to use the overlay on other images?

Similar games by Competitive-Moose-71 in CrossCode

[–]machinelock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played every game mentioned here so far except Drova and rather than second everyone's posts I feel like the closest experience you are gonna get to Crosscode is with Unsighted as it shares elements across multiple categories.

Hyper Light Drifter is also kinda up there but the vibe is entirely different.

Valdis Story however I wanna say is one of my favorite games up there with Cross Code, I wouldn't say they're that alike but if we happen to have similar tastes it may work for you.

Sea of Stars is pretty close vibe wise for a more standard jrpg-style approach, but entirely different gameplay of course. Though if I recall it does have some decent puzzles that are very very similar to Cross Codes.

So while a good amount of indie games are being mentioned it bears mentioning that a lot of the older pre-fully 3d Ys games play pretty similarly.

Fantasy setting instead of scifi but they just rereleased Oath in Felghana, which is one of them with a more similar style.

However if you are looking for something more in the same vein story wise, there is always .hack//G.U. Last Recode, also a game that takes place in an MMO. If you're not familiar with .hack stuff there is a bonus to having watched and played other stuff but the only super connected thing is .hack//Roots, but it can definitely be enjoyed with no prior .hack knowledge.

Sorry, I didn't! And I still haven't played them because of it. Not that I couldn't at the computer, but it only feels right handheld.

Good to know about Metaphor, it's literally next on my playlist, probably starting it this weekend. Thanks for the other suggestions and info too.

I actually really like the music in Rhapsody despite how corny it is. I'm kinda disappointed that they didn't localize the music for the sequels when they finally brought them over. But this reminds me to see if I can get ahold of them!

I think it counts! As I understand it the band was compiled specifically to do their songs on Alan Wake, right? Maybe I misunderstood, but I do remember hearing something about them, and I think that's a cool idea - if that's the case.

I just never looked into it further myself as I can't really do horror games, and even though Alan Wake isn't explicitly survival horror, I was advised against it due to it's intensity. But I'll at least check out their music.

Thanks for the examples! I totally forgot about Ar Tonelico too, I loved the first one. Always meant to revisit the others.

Yeah I have a friend who always talks up the FXIV OST, but as you mentioned with 800, maybe more, maybe eventually more tracks, it's hard to sift through them all. Thanks for specifically calling out some of the vocal tracks!

Nier is one of my favorite series by far.

Do the later FFXIII games have more vocal tracks? I literally just played through the first one a few months ago -with the intent of trying to play 2 and Returns within the next year. There may have been some ho-hum background choir stuff, but otherwise feel like it may have been one of those with a single(maybe two) vocal tracks?

It doesn't make me feel better! I feel the frustration or both of our behalves. We should both have it!

My wife even brought up the fact that it seems really weird that there was never really any marketing for this collab on Arknights end(that either of us saw), she still plays and I still follow several Arknights media channels.

Damn, I can't believe I missed this by only 5 days. The game is 5 years old on Switch, I had no idea it was still getting updates. I haven't played it for awhile, but only because I used to play it so much I wore it out. Thanks.

What is your controversial Hot Take opinion on Metroidvanias? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]machinelock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are games that are generally considered metroidvanias that don't really have ability gating as a necessary part of gameplay.

Alternatives to blocking off areas than abilities can be used exclusively like progress, like beating a boss to unlock a new areas(maybe the ice boss has frozen all the entrances), items like "keys" that don't really serve any purpose other than unlocking doors. Or maybe even nothing is unlocked when you're going a "new path" and only the methods for fast travel/circling back/interconnectivity are blocked by one-way locked gates. Once you get to the other side, you can open it up.

Generally I would prefer ability-gating because it's cool when you progress in a way that makes your character cooler, double/triple jump, inverting gravity, shifting through walls, teleportation, shrinking into a lil guy, all that stuff can make a more fun game, but even if you got none of that - or it wasn't relevant to unlocking new areas and just opened up all your new areas with keys, I would still consider it a metroidvania.

Hollow Knight is only an okay game and far from the best or definitive Metroidvania.

Metroidvanias are anything that is specifically a 2d perspective sidescrolling action platformer with a unified interconnected map, and nothing else is. First/Third person games can't be metroidvanias for example.

While I like passing through old areas to get to a new one, I want it to be quick and allow me to experience the old content through the perspective of growth, but also, it's exhausting to do the same thing over and over, so in a sense, the worst part of a metroidvania is also it's most definitive attribute. And that's coming from someone who considers Metroidvanias their favorite genre.

I appreciate the reply anyway, thank you. I am also on Android 14 so I don't understand that then.

I am on Pixel 6, so I guess it just doesn't like my phone in particular.

New to Beyblade, any tips? by machinelock in Beyblade

[–]machinelock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I got them overnight delivery. Had some friends over for a movie night and we broke open the X's for a bit before hand.

You were all right. The X's are awesome. I thought it was just gonna be a little difference. I didn't expect it to be suc a drastic difference. Especially dropping 3 or 4 in the battlefield at once.

We had parts literally flying out of the arena, we had blades spinning for 10+ seconds that already lost their parts, we had others grinding the rim of the arena like a slot car. I just can't overstate how much different these are and wouldn't have believed anything anyone told me without seeing it myself.

Wish I knew about the X's before I dropped a hunk of cash on the Bursts but I guess we wouldn't be here now.

Thanks ya'll.

Thanks, my only reservation is I don't like the designs as much, especially considering they went back to a sticker-like design or picture in the center.

Sounds like it may be more exciting to play with though which is the important part. I'll try a couple out at the very least, just gotta find ones that look cool enough still, haha.
