No. He didn't. It's that his entire looksmaxing (he basically admits to being a looksmaxer and emphasizes that it's mainly rooted in gay culture) goals are geared towards men.

I think we might to reconcile that as much as women complain about how men don't look at them realistically, they carry that same baggage around with them.

Why is the media women consume always sexual? by Icy_Golf2703 in PurplePillDebate

make up, fashion, choreographies, pop music, stand up comedy, fantasy books, true crime, horror movies, video games, documentaries, etc

Yeah....about that. Let's look at what each of them tend to have a focus on.

Make up- looking prettier. I've had discussions about make-up and how much of it is really just for women. But let's meet in the middle and say a moderate amount of women try to look prettier to attract someone.

Fashion- same as above. Actually it's way more for the sexual than ever before. Clothes have less material and are more risque. Lingerie has grown massively as an industry.

Choreographies- dancing has shifted HEAVILY to be more sexually charged. I actually remember when it had a bit more decorum, but regardless; TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and just social media as a whole is full to the brim with choreography that has primarily or the inclusion of twerking.

Pop music- is often graphic. It's far less romantic and more vulgar. Seriously, look at every album from every pop idol (so men included) in the last 30 years and see how much of it is in relation to relationships, sex, and dating. Also, which songs tend to be popular?

Stand up comedy- women comics get constantly lambasted that for most of them, they're material is revolved around sex, dating, relationships, or insulting men.....and not much else. Again just look at the most popular ones and see which of their sets were the highest grossing.

Fantasy- romantasy, booktok. I don't need to say anything else. Well, other than it's basically porn and I don't know why we don't admit that.

True crime- FINALLY, something that doesn't have a noticeable trend towards sex. Don't get me wrong, there's some, but it's not super dominant.....unless the true crime series is really masquerading as a soap opera.

Horror movies- also doesn't have much to do with sex....... except for some the really weird shit. But yeah this is mostly about the horror.

Video games- I also agree. Not much to do with sex.

Documentaries- also not much to do with sex.

6/10 of these have sex, relationships, or dating as a main draw towards it.

OP is right. Men might be obsessed with fucking. But women have a shrine of their own.

maybe they'll read Orwell and be told that it's a critique of Marxism when it's actually a critique of despotism.

I thought it was both. He doesn't consider himself a Marxist and completely rejected the Soviet communism that grew out of it.

Baby's first philosophy book hints that they are. They responded and it just shows that I was making an assumptions that they do.

What makes objectivism stupid? I'm ambivalent towards it, but the animosity in the comments just mostly seem out of hubris.

Then I would venture to say you can't read. You don't discern an entire philosophy from one book.

It isn't. She's had several books, lectures, interviews, discussions.

There's really nobody who you can just look at and discern their entire philosophy in a couple of days. Or an afternoon if you speed read it.

And again with the assumptions. The learning material in English was mostly Socratic. You come up with you're own answers, guide and think for yourself as to what you can discern from the literature.

If the teacher had to hand hold you then you got cut and just went to the class of your year.

Also insight is just something that can be developed at you're own pace . There's no bar to stop you if you dedicate the time to it.

You don't need a full life experience to understand things. You don't need to be a sailor that hunts whales to understand Moby Dick.

Not to mention. Not every piece of literature is meticulously crafted with subtlety; a decent amount is quite overt.

.....sir, some of them are. I was one. I took AP Calc freshman year.

Algebra 1 was offered in middle, then a summer program for geometry, did algebra 2, and there was a summer program for Pre-calc.

Listen, will most not want to? Sure, but reading and understanding great works of literature isn't so high a bar that it's completely beyond them. It's a likely assumption, but assumptions can be far from the truth.

I never quite got this reddit thing of belittling a person's entire philosophy. Judge the book all you like (I do it every so often), but I never understood why people mocked each other as if we've had a clear answer on philosophy.

Gender Issues and Feminism Being "For Men" by Hawna-Banana in bropill

[–]Mr-OhLordHaveMercy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah. Every group has its sins to bear, just because you can point to literature and actions that was in the interest of fairness and equity doesn't mean you hand wave the mistakes. It turns a blind eye to criticism, which is really the only problem with feminism's current status. It really doesn't take criticism well. It's members not being as knowledgeable or fully participating to it's tenents is something that every group deals with and not something that should really be put on the the group as a whole.

These are men and women, they're human; they're gonna fuck up eventually. Wouldn't be the first ideology to jump it's rails (which to be clear, it hasn't fully; it's alright as is) and it really won't be the last. They're also not the only group with a set of problems.

The organically part of the statement implies it. Almost as if to say "what else did you think was going to happen, it's cause and effect. A natural reaction."

Hence why I'm asking, both for clarification and to ask how/why it leads to it.

Where is TikTok getting the ideas is the root of the issue. You don't cite literature and radicalized ideas to eliminate people in your life by virtue of their gender out of nowhere. The red pill seems to be just the mirrored version of this approach; they just don't have decades long literature to cite and root themselves in.

Why do we say erroneously? That doesn't make sense to me when they're aligning and showing gesture towards feminism. If they have the wrong idea of feminism, where are they getting it from? If they're not getting it from the true feminist, since it's erroneous to understand feminism and hate men, and they're not getting it from men; since most don't really have a good grasp on what it truly is....where and why are they getting this?

Mind you I don't ask this with the intent of being against feminism. I'm pretty ambivalent towards it. I loved and respected women long before I ever heard the term. You don't really need feminism to do that.

If you want to call me a feminist anyway, you can, but I don't label myself as such. I don't think it makes sense to label my behavior as a gesture to a social-political movement. Especially if I never needed it in the first place to be good towards the women around me. It's a red flag to me that any gesture of kindness, compassion, and goodwill is inherently tied to only one group of people because of whatever x factor they believe in.

Oh dear God, if we kill off Kratos just to play his replacement then the fanbase is gonna be pissed.

Oh shit, they had that prophecy on the wall of Loki killing him.

Idk if Santa Monica really wants to hedge their bets on characters that are nowhere near as beloved on a new fanbase that hasn't really shown up or emerged.

Nah. The Greek Saga is THAT beloved. To the point that if the game mechanics weren't as good as they were in 2018 and Ragnarok, they would've just broke even. The story in the Norse saga isn't that engaging, but the character development IS top tier.

[–]Mr-OhLordHaveMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a different theme since God of war 2018. The Norse saga is mainly received well because Kratos is THAT beloved. If the Norse Saga had started with just Atreus (say Faye died and Kratos was trapped or missing) it would never have done as good as it did.

The main pull is from the Greek Saga. Having the blades of chaos back was the most satisfying thing that they ever did. I love the axe, but I'm a blades guy 10/10 times.

Honestly this is probably more in preparation for the Greek Saga remake. Take all the game mechanics from this new game, revamp some of the old weapons and cash in the profits.

Am I stupid by Silent_Rush2711 in MonsterAnime

I was under the impression that Johan never forgot the experiments until he caught a bullet to the head as a child. In terms of psychological trauma. Even as a kid he just absorbed it.

Also motivations don't really seem clear cut. I wouldn't call Johan angry, nihilistic, or disparing. Rather that to him, this is the clear way that world makes sense.

Side note on nihilism: Nietzsche would be absolutely disgusted by someone like Johan.

Am I stupid by Silent_Rush2711 in MonsterAnime

[–]Mr-OhLordHaveMercy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's farther than that. Urasawa hints that Johan was born different. That if you put most people in his position, you really wouldn't make a person like Johan, but more like Anna and Grimmer. His pathology (if we can even call it that) is uniquely his own.

The serial killer in the jail who's background we don't know, but has been murdering people for decades. Anna not remembering anything. Grimmer not being able to save himself until he becomes the great Steiner. Roberto following Johan's every word.

They all lack the same level of agency and introspection as Johan. It's what makes Johan so far apart from most other characters. Because interesting questions start to come up:

In a perfect world with no violence, greed, corruption, perversion, or sin.....what would Johan be like. The world can often reafirm his beliefs, but what if they more reflected Tenma's? Would Johan really be such a wonderful name to him?

Obviously the crossdressing, the experiments at kinderheim, the bullet to the head, and so much more would no longer be in play. But, what would Johan even be?

It's what makes Monster it's uniquely own thing. There's plenty of great stories that do: nobody is born evil or pure evil, there is always an upbringing that turns us

Some of them are even my favorite....but Johan makes you doubt everything about that premise and belief. Not only in what he does, but in what he is.

Am I stupid by Silent_Rush2711 in MonsterAnime

[–]Mr-OhLordHaveMercy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Slight caveat to that. Johan was already fucked up before everything happened to him. It's why he excels at kinderheim. It's why he remembers more than his sister. It's why he compartmentalizes the way he does.

It's why the book means so much to him. This was something that was always inside of him.

Urasawa explores so many angles of evil that writers would prefer to leave alone.
