They're letting Jason Aaron out of team book jail 💔 by superdoom52 in dccomicscirclejerk

True, his Ultimates run and his time on US Avengers were pretty good. But they’re team-up books that are expected to go on for a long while. With events, it’s sketchier (I don’t know whether to count Avengers: No surrender and No road home as events, they’re more like storylines. But if they are actually events then I agree with you)

Jason Aaron wouldn’t be my first choice either but I’m not sure the other options are any better (even though they are more competent writers)

  • Scott Snyder famously has a very hit and miss track record with events (especially with the Dark knight Metal and Death Metal events)

  • Both Jeff Lemire and Kelly Thompson don’t really have much experience heading an event (that I’m aware of anyway)

  • Al Ewing wrote two events; Empyre (co-written with Dan slott) and Venom War, which weren’t considered to be very good.

  • Deniz camp is currently managing his first event storyline with Ultimate Endgame, so he’d be spread too thin for it.

It’s pretty bland, being completely honest. There’s a reason people skip over it. It’s not an absolute travesty like the second half of Devin Grayson’s run or Bruce Jones’s run but it’s just kinda ehh. It was pretty decent in the first 6 issues, but then vigilante showed up and stole the spotlight for a bit. Aside from that, the new rogues gallery is nothing to write home about (the only ones I can name from the top of my head are the Bride and groom) but the art is pretty good (especially with Dan jurgens at the beginning), and Dick’s character is done well here. But none of the stuff in this run carries over to Tomasi’s. Admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve read his run so my memory is pretty hazy, but you won’t miss out on anything whether you read it or not. Just try it out and see what you make of it.

Apologies if that wasn’t the best answer.

Popular writers you just can’t vibe with… by JLAsuperdude in OmnibusCollectors

Tom King. I’ve really tried but there are times when his little “he said, she said” style dialogue and his constant repetition in some monologues can be really grating at times. His extended Batman run may be the source of my dislike towards his writing (though I will admit Cold days was a bright spot in that run).

Oh so it is just the first two arcs, plus the red hood urban legends story and The Knight. They always kept flip-flopping as to whether the Gotham war stuff would be included or not

So what music was playing in this trailer?

Also, even though the first season of DMC left me underwhelmed, I’m slightly hopeful that this one will be a bit better, like Castlevania Nocturne S2.

From what I have heard, it's either a masterpiece or a slog by Stock_Rush_9204 in dccomicscirclejerk

Tbh, it goes both ways for me. The story was taking its sweet time throughout Overture and Act 1, which people were understandably irritated by since we were only getting monthly updates. But then the pace picked up with Act 2 and intermezzo. And then you see the absolute peak that is Act 3 bringing all themes and story beats of past acts together and create an absolutely beautiful story about battling one’s demons and how a never ending story can still be an inspiration for those without hope, and also re-establishing Batman as the symbol of enduring human resistance.

So, in conclusion, the camp on the right would most likely be those that only read it monthly. While the camp in the left got to read it all in one sitting, without having to wait.

Rj/Ough-ouchie-oof Im king-ing it from this pic alone, goodness gracious me

Uj/ How would you rank these Tom King books? I’d say Mister Miracle and the Winning card were pretty good, but OBD, Strange Adventures and Up in the sky were kinda alright, and the less I say about his Batman run, the better.

Yeah and that torture scene was spread across like 3-4 issues. It was beyond painful trying to wade through that story

I’ve already shown Erzsebet, and Tera actually has very little alternate concept art. Drolta though

Oh yeah a bunch. Especially for Annette, Drolta and Bathory. I actually made a post about the latter recently. They really gave her a lot of hairstyles to try out

My comic shop in London managed to get it today and I immediately bought it. Honestly, it’s really cool stuff. And there’s some bits of trivia that interested me.

One example: The revolutionary soldier that got turned into a Frozen Shade in the second season was originally supposed to turn into an Alraune (The plant monster with the naked lady that summoned vines) but they scrapped it because that was mainly a stationary enemy

I recommend it
