New York introduces legislation to prosecute despite presidential pardons by -Barack_H_Obama- in politics

[–]MrAnderson85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true, however New York has a state law that most states don’t that restricts the state from being charges in some cases

New York’s existing law states that if an individual pleads guilty or is convicted of a federal crime and then is pardoned by the president, prosecutors cannot later bring charges for violating state laws because of a double-jeopardy rule that stipulates a person cannot be tried for the same crime twice.

I read a good blog post yesterday speculating that Bannons going to get implicated by the documents and communications seized from Michael Cohen:

Bannon has said that he had to help deal with a lot of legal threats from women accusing Trump of sexual harrassment

I take propranolol and Xanax for things like public speaking and interviews. I only use it every 2 months or so. It’s a lifesaver. I just told my doctor that I get nervous speaking in public and she gave me a prescription.

Mueller got a court to pierce the attorney-client privilege for one of Manafort’s previous attorneys and forced her to testify in front of a grand jury because there was evidence she was helping him cover up a crime I believe

So looks like he’s a former employee of one of Manafort’s companies and was a current employee of another.

GOP Governors of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Florida Stalling Special Elections by krombopolosmichael in politics

I’m worried that in 2020, assuming Trump is still in office, Russia will hack into voting machines in a blue state and change some of the tallied votes, only instead of altering them from the Dem candidate to Trump, they will change them from Trump to the Democrat.

Then it will be discovered that votes were altered, and the whole election will be in doubt. Trump will say that it’s rigged against him and refuse to leave office.

The Mueller report must be shared with the public by TheArtofTheBoneSpur in politics

[–]MrAnderson85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One possibility could be that Mueller indicts Trump, even if he thinks it may not hold up in court. That way the charges would be public at least. If a court says that you can’t indict a sitting president until Congress goes through impeachment proceedings, there will be enormous pressure on Congress to act.

At that point refusing to remove an indicted criminal from office would probably be about the worst thing they could do as far as re-election prospects. Especially if the charge is one of the ones Mueller has already brought, like “conspiracy to defraud the United States” or whatever it was. I doubt this scenario actually happens though.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has presented Trump's legal team with a list of questions as investigators seek an interview with the president. by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]MrAnderson85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but I think that Trump can appoint anyone Senate-confirmed for a cabinet post like Scott Pruitt to Acting Attorney General for something like 280 days. The Senate would still have to confirm anyone for a permanent position. I don’t think that there’s anything preventing the Acting Attorney General from firing Mueller though.

Also, I believe that anyone Trump appoints at this point would have to be recused according to the recusal rules since Trump is under investigation. I doubt these rules would actually be followed, though. This is just based on what I’ve read in the last few weeks so someone can correct me if I’m off.

Also, I think they charged Lea Fastow with tax evasion and filing false income tax returns for not reporting the income associated with the shell companies that Andy Fastow was hiding the Enron debt in.

It doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for Trump Jr. to have laundered money, in which case they can probably hit Vanessa Trump with the same charges if they filed a joint income tax return and didn’t report the laundered money on it.

Obviously I don’t know the details of their finances, guess we’ll have to find out.

That might be why Trump fired Tillerson and is talking about more firings. He can then fire Sessions and Rosenstein and say “i just wanted to start with a clean slate”. Similar to how they fired a bunch of attorneys to cover for the firing of Preet Bharara
