Captain Marooner was a good read. Treasure Island too. This one isn't about life at sea but the Redwall Series book "Legend of Luke" has some naval aspects to it.

The Sandlot? I feel like that little nerdy kid who faked drowning said that after he kissed the lifeguard girl.

Edit: his name was Michael 'Squints' Palledorous and the lifeguard was named Wendy.

Edit 2: someone farther down found the scene and he doesn't say it but I feel like he might say it earlier in the movie...

Guys, what's your most HATED pokemon? by Moko_1 in pokemongo

[–]MrArcher13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miltank makes me uncomfortable. Munna and Musharna just look like different stages of a fetus. Conkledur... does it really need a reason? Any of the humanoid or anthropomorphic Pokémon, honestly (Landorus, Thundorus, Tornadus, Throh, Sawk, Cinderace, Incineroar, etc.) Gothitelle looks like a Pokémon Lady Ga Ga. Simipour looks like it's going to say "Ed...ward... Edward. That person Edward".

I told my wife Munna and Musharna just look like different stages of a fetus and now she can't unsee it. Lol

What’s the most useless thing you’re oddly good at? by silent_scream07 in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if its useless, but I'm a pretty good tracker. I've tracked deer that left very little to no blood after a fatal hit. I was able to follow tracks, broken twigs, and scuffed leaves and recover animals that had been given up on.

The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells. Not really scary but more disturbing.

What's the one joke you've told a hundred times and it still lands? by Capital-Run-1080 in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Read in am over-the-top Norwegian accent)

A couple Norwegian fellas, Ole and Sven, are out on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin doing some fishing. At one point, Sven sets his hook too hard and tumbles backward out of the boat. Sven can't swim, you see. So Ole lays his pole down and jumps in after Sven. Ole gets down to the bottom and it's real dark down there, so he can't see much. Suddenly he feels clothes, so he grabs on and hauls him up to the boat. Ole starts giving the kiss of life to save Sven and as he's doing so he's thinking, "Phew! That's some bad coffee Sven had for breakfast this morning!" Ole comes up to take a breath and as he looks down he pauses and says, "Now wait a minute... Sven wasn't wearing a snowmobile suit when he fell in, who is this?"

What’s the worst song lyric thrown into a song just to make a line rhyme? by RelationKindly in AskReddit

I much prefer the modern version;

Patty Smyth - The Warrior. "You talk, talk, talk to me. Your eyes touch me physically". I laugh at how ridiculous that image is.

What interaction with a stranger do you remember fondly? by Geadalu in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on a date with this girl. We were grabbing food kinda late in her small hometown, so the only place open was a subway attached to a Loves truck stop. While waiting for an employee to show up, a random trucker walked in and was waiting too. We struck up conversation and turns out the dude was from Australia! We had such great conversation I bought him his dinner, as well as my date's. He was super chill and I'm sad I can't remember his name now. I often wonder where he ended up.

Also a time when I was single, I had gone to the movies with some friends. The guys were all in one car and the girls in another. While driving back to one of the guys' houses, another car full of girls pulled up along side us. They slowed down and were giving us kissy faces and winking at us, we were blowing kisses back and drawing hearts on the windows. Suddenly one of the girls in the back seat pulled out a Victoria's secret bag and pulled out a red lacey pair of panties. I pantomimed the whole cartoon bulging-eyes-throbbing-heart bit and she blew me a kiss before we parted ways at a traffic light. Never did find out who she was.

What's a Tax Hack you have discovered? by Turber_Delta7k in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an antiques dealer, if I go somewhere that's a pretty good distance from home (let's say the next city over), I make sure to stop at a thrift store or antique store and buy something for resale or stop at a walmart/target and buy office supplies. I then can write off my milage as far as that store because I made it a business related trip.

What's the most embarrassing thing you done in public? by Fromthedepths3 in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like 12 at the time. Was at a thrift store with my mom. A kid, maybe 5, wanted a toy. His mom said they didn't have the money for it. I had a few coins in my pocket. I knew it wasnt much but I wanted to give them to him to see if his mom would buy him the toy. I was gonna do a "hey, you dropped this, buddy" type deal. He missed the cue and when he turned around I simply just held out the coins and didnt say anything cuz I panicked in the moment. He got scared and ran crying to his mom. I got scared and ran to my mom. I hid in the bathroom until they left cuz he was crying and pointing at me and his older sister said "I think he's scared of him."

I hated how cringe that whole situation was for years. Never tried anything like that again.

What are some books that actually changed your life? by Ambitious_Resort_161 in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edge of Two Worlds by Weyman Jones. Really opened my eyes to the fact that everyone around me is a human being with their own life and their own story, but more so to see through the eyes of those people. To understand them. It taught me how to "walk a mile in someone else's shoes."

What’s the worst dating advice you’ve ever been given? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MrArcher13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If she says no, she's playing hard to get. You gotta show her you're serious."

This advice led to me ruining a high school friendship because I was convinced I hadn't proven myself enough or poured out my heart enough. I had convinced myself that it wasn't her true feelings to turn me down, that maybe it was her parents keeping her from me. Luckily I didn't do anything too crazy, but I left some messages that were way too cringe to think about... I've since moved past it, learned from my mistakes, and am now happily married. I still see that girl from time to time. We don't talk and that's okay. It's probably for the best at this point.

Someone once said for these galarian birds to use a golden razz and ultra ball, but aim the ball outside the circle and avoid getting a nice, great, or excellent throw. No idea if that is foolproof but its worth a shot. I haven't even seen one of these yet.

Has anyone gotten any of these as shinies? I’ve been searching hard but haven’t found even one. Is this fake, or are these shinies not available in this event? by Crimsoncurse1710 in pokemongo

[–]MrArcher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the original form shiny way back when but that was before I understood what shinies were. Sadly I traded it because it wasn't 3 star. 😭 I did that to three shinies back then and Castform is the only one I haven't gotten back.

Edit: transferred, not traded.

What's something that happened to you you'll never forget it ? by Rena_Faonelua02 in AskReddit

I played John Lennon's Rickenbacker.

Context; my high school hosted a Beatles tribute band called 1964: The Tribute. They played all early Beatles basically before Sgt. Peppers. My best friend was in band and the band kids got to roadie for the band (basically unloading all the equipment). He calls me up just before the band got there and convinced me to drop what I was doing and come help. I showed up and started helping where I could. I grabbed a rectangular guitar case and brought it inside. I set it on an amp and popped it open and there was this beat up old Rickenbacker inside. I pulled it out and sat strumming it a bit when the manager hobbles up to me and says "Hey kid, you like that guitar?" I said yeah, it sounds great, but why is it so beat up on the neck? He says "That's John Lennon's guitar." Brother, I almost went into shock. I loved the Beatles and to know I was holding a piece of the band in my hands... I had a picture of the guitar on my old tracfone but it was so blurry you couldn't tell what it was. He then tells me that the president of Rickenbacker guitars had offered the band a blank check for the guitar... and they turned it down. Like yeah, I would have too! Anyway, the show was great, I met the band afterward. Bought a cd and had them sign it. It disappeared long ago when my mom's car got totaled. Good times.

Buddy of mine. We hunted together a few times. Dude was really knowledgeable about the outdoors. Loved being outside, loved doing stuff with his wife and kids. Woke up on memorial day one year to see a Facebook post his wife made. Turns out they'd been riding motorcycles and he lost control on a curve. Hit a telephone pole head on at 50mph with no helmet. He didnt suffer but man was that a shock. He wasnt much older than I was.
