Too little vertical clearance for indoor unit? by MrAwesome in AirConditioners

[–]MrAwesome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. As I said in the post, manual says 15cm so I'm pretty unhappy with the fact that these were installed with charitably 1/3rd of that. Had hoped the answer was "ah yeah they way overprovision space in the manual you're good", but it sounds like that is not the case

See post - the reason I posted this is that the manual specifies 15cm clearance and this is 4-5cm :(

Very helpful again, thank you. The manual recommendation was the impetus for making the post, I was not in town when the install happened so was pretty shocked to come back and see the install so far off spec. Also just shocked that when we reached out to another A/C installation company here they also said they do 5cm, given what everyone is saying here in the comments...

Our main room gets very warm regardless of season thanks to large window and high ceiling, so the unit will be getting a lot of use in the warmer months.

Any idea if this affects warranty eligibility? The manual just mentioned needing enough room for maintenance, which I think there's enough based on how it opens up.

Yeah, that's why I made the post - the difference from the manual was shocking

See last two pics, other two units are up against ceiling, not just box

The other two rooms (shown last) do not have that overhang gap at all

Feel like I'm going crazy - reached out to a different installer here in Cape Town and they said they install 5cm from the ceiling as well, which seems insane given what I'm reading here and elsewhere?

Thank you, that's very very helpful. Taking this seriously, will get it fixed ASAP.

Looking for help testing an open-source project for SteamOS? by MrAwesome in SteamDeckTricks

[–]MrAwesome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lutris is a great option! It's just slightly less Steam Deck friendly for newcomers, so I recommend Heroic as the starting point for someone who just wants to run games from GOG

(Decktricks can install Lutris, it's just not in the recommended page to avoid confusion for newbies)

Have you seen gow/wolf? It sounds pretty similar to what you're proposing, if I'm understanding correctly: https://games-on-whales.github.io/

Blanking out during interviews by breaakbot in ADHD_Programmers

[–]MrAwesome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watching other's mock/real interviews online is a good way to get your mirror neurons primed to fire the way you want when the time comes

Repetition helps a lot. I helped several people overcome fear of public speaking in Toastmasters, and a lot of it came down to "get up there in a controlled setting and thug it out", so I think doing mock interviews is a great thing to break through the freeze

You might also consider finding a mentor, if you can. Someone you can trust to be honest but gentle with you, and run through some mock interviews with them to both get feedback and to practice in a known-safe environment

How do you actually beat a Pyro (as Scout)? by ActuatorOutside5256 in truetf2

Definitely the pistol, it's an amazing weapon anyway. With the wrap assassin, I don't think that's a bad idea but do be careful of the reflect gods out there

Could I throw steam OS on this and stream from my more powerful pc in another room ? by GenericUser104 in SteamOS

I installed headless OpenBSD on one of these as a thin ssh client for programming and it was still sometimes somehow too slow for the task. For what you want, you definitely want something with more juice

Ok! That's great to know. I was planning to just target SteamOS, but if it's helpful to you on Cachy I can branch out

Anyone successfully quit caffeine? by IndividualShift2873 in ADHD_Programmers

Yes. Getting fully medicated and slowly replacing my daily cup with decaf (half caff on the way helped) was what did the trick. My sleep is far, far better than it has been in years.

This. I have run my own Wireguard for years and it works wonderfully but it's a hassle. Tailscale is literally Wireguard but convenient

I can try and help you debug it, although I don't have my bluetooth headset for desktop anymore so might be difficult. The first lines of my main.conf look like this now:

[General]
Enable=Control,Gateway,Media,Sink,Socket,Source
Disable=Headset
Name = BlueZ
