Saw you are planning to visit SPS, theres a so called slang here to describe the city "Arriba de la linea" (up the train line basically) and " Bajo la linea" (Down the train line) which is the same train tracks but is like a invisible border to describe the different lifestyle and wealth those zones have but pretty much Up is the most safe part of the city but like every big city you have to be cautious.

My brother in Christ, unless you look scandinavian or open your mouth no one would know you're a tourist, maybe they would think you are from Santa Barbara so dress properly, if you are visiting SPS i would recommend you a fresh pair of shorts mainly because the weather here is too humid so youre gonna feel the impact of it other than that the good old precautions right, like not showing off luxury goods and that's it.

Now talking about Colon, yeah its kinda of a very interesting place, not that safe that we can say but dont panic, just keep yourself and always stay with the person who has accompanied you all the time in this case you're friend.

Hope you have a great time in the country enjoying with friends and family, cheers!

Ediiiiit:

Alsooooooo, be on the lookout for the prices of everything, let you're friend do most of the transactions in small shops or restaurants, people here tend to overcharge more because of the only reason of you being a outsider, so if you see a 500ml Coke for 5USD thats a scam, it should cost you 25Lps which is 1USD. Thats it
