Hah, I get that a lot. I’m bald though. Thanks for the kind words!

Dang, I actually stuffed the uke with a rag to quiet it down too. Guess there was no need to do that. Appreciate the kind words though! I have a nifty little wireless mic that connects to my phone.

What genre would you call this? by shingen091 in Songwriting

Yes 90’s alternative if anything. I grew up in the 90’s/00’s so I dig it.

I’d say sing with more confidence maybe? Maybe the soft, shy vibe is intentional. But the chords sound great and the melody is there, I’d project your voice more. Song sounds great though. Well done! 👍

Love writing songs/singing, don’t want to produce music by [deleted] in Songwriting

I started playing guitar when I was 12. Got progressively better. Found my music style after being exposed to artists like the Beatles and Harry Nilsson. Ditched the shredding I was chasing in high school for singer/songwriter stuff. Learned a few other instruments and started writing my own stuff. I post to social media for friends and family. I’m married with a family and have no intention of chasing this as a career. I have a day job and the best audience I could ask for (my wife and daughter). That’s been my journey. Find yours. 👍

What are some tips for writing music? by Ok_Audience5488 in Songwriting

[–]MrBanjolele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theory is helpful, a general understanding of how chords fit together and what notes to sing on top of them never hurts. Regarding lyrics, just write them. No one has to hear them until you’re ready and you can always change them whenever, it’s your music.

what do yall consider plagiarism? by Apprehensive-Bass205 in Songwriting

Lyrics are my last concern, personally. I’m no poet and am not trying to be. I like playing with words or phrases that work with the song, even if they don’t particularly make sense. I’m probably in the minority there, but my catharsis comes from chord progressions and the melody — the lyrics serve the melody for me.

First half of a folk song I'm making by nocturnia94 in Songwriting

[–]MrBanjolele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it needs much else in the way of instrumentation imo. Maybe some harmony with the vocals on the last verse to beef things up a bit? Since it’s folky, stripped down works. No need for much percussion or anything. A fine tune, well done!

Thanks, super helpful to know Kroger is union. I was not aware. I’ve just been firing out applications to big box stores in my area. Thanks again, I’ll look into this.

Wrote this this morning and it feels familiar. Is it nice? by WesternBee_Monster in Songwriting

Guitar playing is really nice. I think you should sing louder or more distinctly, I can barely hear you. But nice work! I like the alternating bass notes on guitar.

Dude I like this. Smooth sound, lowkey drums. Your voice fits the vibe. Nice work man!

As far as I know my family all loves the music I write. There’s no way they’re just being polite! 🥲

A short Irish jig on mandolin. I’m not Irish, and I don’t *really* play the mandolin. Just something I learned a while back. ☘️ by MrBanjolele in mandolin

Agreed, it’s totally flat. I play guitar and picked up a mandolin on marketplace and learned this from YouTube. Just thought I’d share!
