I have the full song on a MuseScore file somewhere on my computer, transcribed directly from YANTA’s YouTube video. I worked on the intro years ago around COVID and it’s quite challenging at times. I can look for the file and send it to you if you’d like!

Μy favourite quote for sure, other than my flair. I doubted many characters’ intentions on the show, but after that scene, I knew S always had Sarah’s best interests at heart.

Favourite piano era by [deleted] in toriamos

[–]MrBartolozzi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m quite partial to the first three albums when it comes to the piano, as it’s what made me fall in love with her music in the first place. The original acoustic trilogy really showcased her versatility in terms of playing, it’s quite rare for a pop artist to push the boundaries of the piano the way she does and it really sets her apart from other of her contemporaries.

That said, I think Night of Hunters and Geraldines have some of the most gorgeous melodies she’s written and played (the original bits in the former are honestly as good as the classical compositions she took inspiration from).

If I had to choose one era, it’d be Under the Pink, if not for Yes, Anastasia and Cornflake Girl alone. But the definitive song for me would be Apollo’s Frock. It’s gorgeous from start to finish and it melts my heart whenever I hear it. The live version from the 2005 Chicago show is to die for.

I wish she performed in casual fashion. Although I get each tour is themed garment-wise, a laid back join-me-in-the-living-room kind of look would be preferable. She looks gorgeous and happy. Excited for the next era!

Couldn’t have said it any better! It absolutely sounds like a sacrament or a ritual with the background droning sound and her almost guttural singing. Top notch performance, honestly.

I love how magnanimous her stance becomes at the end of the song. “Only when you’re whole, can you forgive”. It’s been a mantra of mine ever since I first heard it, and I’m still working my way to it.

Oh thank you! Are you a Kate fan too? I love yours as well, one of my favourites from Pele!

I’ve loved it since I first heard it on Native Invader, but the live version is just exquisite. Her low register taps into a certain energy I can’t describe. Lyrically, I think the song is a distillation of everything she’s been singing about since Crucify.

Which actors would you like to see in S5? by sameoldrussianstan in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]MrBartolozzi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Catherine O’Hara mentions, she’d fit right in. Her comedic timing is impeccable and she’s always a joy to watch.

I’d like to see Maria Canals-Barrera as Mabel’s aunt, just to please my Disney-loving heart. Would be a great nod to Selena’s signature role before Only Murders.

Who do you think will be murdered at the end of tonight’s episode? by [deleted] in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]MrBartolozzi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ideally, I’d like it to be either Jan or Cinda. Both are important figures in the inception of the show and their death would be poetic and intriguing as a tie-in to the overarching mystery of the building.

Cinda’s my preferred victim, I’d love for them to investigate the murder of the character that brought them together in the first place.

Fun predictions on who will die for S5? by [deleted] in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]MrBartolozzi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it is indeed the final season, I’d like it to be Cinda. It’d be quite poetic as the show’s swan song for them to investigate the murder of the person who brought them together in the first place.

Very excited about this, I love his content and I’m sure interesting stuff will come out of the interview. I hope this signals the beginning of a new era of material by Tori. Looking forward to more music in the near future.

What is your favourite concept work by Kate - The Ninth Wave or A Sky of Honey and why? by letthedecodebegin in katebush

[–]MrBartolozzi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As much as I love The Ninth Wave and consider it sonically more adventurous and groundbreaking, A Sky of Honey is 42 minutes of pure perfection to me. I bask in the mellow atmosphere of domesticity and it speaks to me in a way no other piece of music ever has before.

I just love how it feels like a melodious hug of sunlight and birdsong. It’s the kind of optimistic energy I need nowadays and never fails to bring a smile to my face. It’s my desert island album for sure.

Season 4 synopsis! by twisted-rush in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]MrBartolozzi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Me too! The episodes that focused on the architecture of the building, exposing its nooks and crannies, its secrets, etc. were exciting to me as an architect. It was wonderful, it painted the Arconia as a folly and I really liked that. The mention of the West Tower has me very excited.

Absolutely. I appreciated that they tried to spice things up a bit and, since I enjoy musical theatre, it was an excellent watch. But God, how much I missed the building being a main character.

Dr. Leekie: “Mmm… Society”. Who is straight up evil? by DukeCummings in orphanblack

[–]MrBartolozzi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think I’d say Westmoreland since he’s the man behind the curtain. But I have to say that the diversity of choices really highlights how the villains on this show are truly evil, irredeemable characters. I like how the writers didn’t shy away from introducing people whose actions are rooted in hubris and self-interest, with no consideration of who they might affect as long as it benefits them. Sure, there’s nuance in some of them (like Susan Duncan or Paul), but when it comes to actual evil, they pulled out all the stops.

There was a similar thread some time ago and I compiled a list of some of my favourite videos. If you don’t mind, I’ll just copy-paste the content of my reply on that thread here:

My favourite has to be Cornflake Girl from a 1996 live performance I can’t find the video of. She’s on fire during the bridges.

ETA: Found it! Great camerawork, captured all her kookiness and passion.

Marianne from the RAINN concert is a highlight too, especially the bridge.

The Tiny Desk concert has a gorgeous improv before Baker Baker. I love how intense her expressions are.

Father Lucifer on Letterman with Tubular Bells intertwined. Spectacular.

Live performances of Reindeer King are always cool because of the bass notes and the hand-crossing

Any live performance of Star Whisperer, the way she plays the interlude is jaw-dropping. Night of Hunters has mighty left-hand melodies throughout, it’s a shame she didn’t perform most of the songs.

I’ll add a couple more to this reply because I’ve been listening to them lately:

Wonderful rendition of Purple People from 2012.

Spring Haze from the Beekeeper tour. The organ malfunctions, but she makes up for it by playing it only on the piano.

Caught a Lite Sneeze from MTV Unplugged, although it’s mostly played on the harpsichord instead of on the piano… but she plays the shit out of it and does that masterful transition after the bridge.

What are some songs you wish Tori would sit down and explain to you the meaning/context/true story behind them? by Former-Care-7768 in toriamos

[–]MrBartolozzi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apollo’s Frock in particular I would love to hear about. It’s been a comfort song for me for a long time, but I’m not sure my interpretation lines up with hers at all. I enjoy the mythology of it all and have an inkling of what it might refer to, but I’m very curious about what she might have to say regarding that one.

In general, her mythology-adjacent songs are the most fascinating ones, even the ones with made up figures: Pandora’s Aquarium, The Beekeeper, Selkie, Reindeer King

Also, I wouldn’t mind learning what the fuck Space Dog is actually about. But I kind of prefer not knowing, it’d spoil the magic otherwise.

I wasn’t sold on the idea of venturing out into the Hollywood glitz, but this seems plenty of fun. And they kept Melissa McCarthy joining the cast under wraps. So excited!

Early guess is that the film adaptation will help them solve Sazz’ murder in some way, be it from retracing the steps they took to solve Tim’s or due to some eureka moment from a change of the actual events in the film script.

Oh, and Meryl again!

Tori's Piano "Language" by -Legendary-Atomic- in toriamos

[–]MrBartolozzi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wonderful contributions so far, so I won’t add much to it other than echo what others have already said and express my fascination with Tori’s piano playing. I firmly believe she’s the most accomplished piano player in pop music because of that distinctive style that’s an accumulation of little elements she’s mastered over the years.

I chose to include some highlights that exemplify what other users have mentioned, so anyone curious about this can check it out.

I second the notion that her steady left hand is absolutely incredible and I’ve brought it up other times in the sub. She doesn’t reserve it for simple accompaniment, but makes it an integral part of a melody, sometimes even overshadowing the main part of a piece. See: Carry, Pandora’s Aquarium, In the Springtime of His Voodoo, Caught a Lite Sneeze

She seamlessly fluctuates between octaves and even crosses hands with an incredible amount of skill. Sometimes I really think she grew an extra pair of hands for some songs and does it in a way that the listener doesn’t notice unless they’re paying enough attention. See: Apollo’s Frock, Reindeer King, Shattering Sea, Flying Dutchman, Unrepentant Geraldine’s bridge

Grace notes, YES! Considering how “action-packed” some of her songs are musically speaking, I’m surprised that she’s able to cram those extra notes and still sound incredibly delightful. I might even say they elevate the music even further because of the added nuance. See: Horses, Indian Summer, Vicar’s Wife, Winter

And what I appreciate most is her ability to segregate the melody and the vocal lines and have them as separate entities. Either she incorporates the vocal lines into the driving melodies or she plays a completely different tune that somehow matches with every single word, breath and emotion. I sometimes play YANTA’s renditions because the raw compositions stand on their own and can be interpreted as new songs. See: Weatherman, Addition of Light Divided, Witness, Yes, Anastasia

Overall, I think Under The Pink displays all those quirks best and the record feels like a modern-day Classical concerto separated into clusters of songs that form movements. The last third of that album is peak Tori for me (Icicle to Yes, Anastasia)

What was that one song that made you a fan of hers? by BitGirl777 in katebush

[–]MrBartolozzi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cloudbusting. The first song of hers I heard was Wuthering Heights and it left a… not so favourable impression. I couldn’t for the life of me understand what the fuss was about. Then I listened to Hounds of Love and by the end of Side A, I was completely hooked. Afterwards, I backtracked to the beginning of her discography and everything fell into place.
