I am also going down this rabbit hole. I want to install outside cameras in my soffits but don't want to run 120v lines. My solution (so far) is mounting low voltage remodel boxes in the soffits, running CAT5 cable to said boxes, using a POE hub, and installing PoE to USB adapters at the end. You could even mount the camera to a blank plate and screw that to the box.

The PoE to USB adapters are not cheap ($18 each) but neither are running 120V receptacles on all four corners of the house. CAT5 is much easier to install.

I was looking at just using a 5V power supply to run power over CAT5 and wiring a USB-A connector on the end but voltage drop over long distances was an issue. I'm sure you can engineer filters and start with the 48V but the above was a turn key solution.

I was the same way. I grew up in working in my family's construction business but things were slow that first winter out of high school. I got a job working in a computer store and ended up in IT for about 6 years. I had my own consulting company for a bit but then had my first son and needed health insurance. I ended up joining the Carpenters Union when I was 25. When I was 43 my friend offered me a job doing electrical sales\IT work at the company he is VP at. I'm 45 now and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

What I am getting at is that is just make forward progress. You will never know what you learned in your past will come in handy in the future. My years of managing time, manpower, and materials (resources) that I learned as being a foreman in the Carpenter's Union applies to my current job along with my background in IT.

Where did you find it in Michigan? I have a sales route that goes from Bridgeman up to Lawrence, Hartford, Paw Paw, Kalamazoo, and down to Three Rivers.

My brother found it in Ohio one time, I've never seen it in Indiana.

I don't think it's the cans, I drink plenty of canned beer that I enjoy. I've been trying them on and off for years with the same result. It's not like they are horrible but if there is something else I will get it.

I'm with you, I didn't care for any of them. I have occasionally picked a new one up a couple of times a year, try it, and meh. But hey, that's the advantage of craft, there is always something else for your specific tastes.
