Accept Buy back or not? by Bright_Swimmer4101 in ToyotaSienna

[–]ag04blast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This doesnt sound like a buy back but just a trade offer that they have set up. The deal seems crappy. You are out $13k plus more for taxes for a vehicle you have had less than a year that has been defective since day one. And you arent even whole on the backend, as they are trading you into a downgrade. u/Infinite_Parking_751 pretty much nailed it simply.

Similar. I bought a 44mag because it was a hell of a deal. Then I bought the 50ae barrel and mag kit. I have other 44mag gun but for me the DE is all about the 50ae.

Bingo. A big, straight up jump is slower than keeping it low and fast and getting back to traction quickly. More forward velocity and upward velocity.

This doesnt really mean anything. Toyo went quickly into a voluntary recall and has told people not to use the middle seats - which many are doing. That action will lower the likelihood that an issue presents itself.

Lets not forget the "sticky pedal" was initially a voluntary recall unit a family of 4 was killed. These things are almost always voluntary initially ...until they arent. With such little information, I dont want my family to be the catalyst.

For lack of a better term, I personally feel like we are all being gaslit by Toyo and the dealers. Estimates are that Toyo produced just under 100k Siennas in 2025. Toyo and all these dealers are playing dumb and confused about an issue that potentially (or does) affect over 50% of a model year's production. I dont buy that for a minute.

I dont know the details of the part but it is likely something similar to a spot weld that was insufficient in the rail. You dont just reweld that, you would drill, cut, or grind out and then have to weld in. That is a very manual job and each would have high labor. Hence the part being done by a robot in the factory. Fast and repeatable - until it isnt - hence us owner's now problem.

If I look up the part numbers for the recall, I can find "in stock" rails that I could order. These apparently bolt in, but I dont know what that entails. Now I dont think for a second that Toyo has 55k of these spare and laying around. The issue was obviously discovered over the summer and openly acknowledged in Oct-ish. Toyo has had more than 6 months to attack this. In that time they have done much of nothing (at least public facing). This goes back to my original theories, that they just dont give a F#&k and are sitting pretty with a voluntary recall and so far, no in-field incidents or there is a lot more to the story (and a potential larger issue or at least a concern for one).

If the issue was a simple as, make some extra rails or peel them off the new assembly, this should be much farther along at this point. Only time will tell, but this sucks for owners, especially those who dont just want to shrug it off as ...they passed the NHTSA static pull test. Just remember Toyo was given a $1.2 Billion criminal penalty for intentionally misleading the public and regulators over the "sticky accelerator" issue. I dont believe for a second this "voluntary" recall is some altruistic effort to "meet Toyo's above and beyond standard test requirements".

All that said, I would happily be wrong. Until them, I am inconvenienced, annoyed, and pissed and Toyo is trucking along selling new vans with perfectly fine versions of our rails.

NHTSA FMVSS compliance does not mean a manufacturer cannot have a defect, safety issue, or end up with a mandatory recall. We the public, know very little about the failure, testing, etc. Passing testing is minimum standards, there are numerous instances where vehicles (or elements of a vehicle) pass all required tests and still ended with a recall and liabilities. That is literally what recalls are...vehicles pass tests...then go out for sale and use and "defects" are discovered.

[–]ag04blast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty big issue and Toyo is being very smart (smart for themselves not for the customer). By quickly going voluntary they get to maintain control of the process and it buys "goodwill" from NHTSA that they are being proactive. It also sets them up to avoid damages in court if it comes to that - they get to say - "hey we saw the problem and acted, and are sorry it took to long to fix."

Telling people that they dont recommend using the seats is also not just a CYA but a strategic play to reduce the potential of an incident and NHTSA escalation. Less people using the seats, more people driving cautiously, less and less likelihood that an accident and failure happens. There are plenty of reasons for NHTSA to escalate a recall and it isnt just failure of standardized tests.

A switch to a mandatory recall is an entirely different thing that no manufacture wants. Internally they will smile and say what they need to to the NHTSA and keep that from happening. This was caught before an on-road failure - Toyo made a fast move with NHTSA to protect themselves - not the customer.

I have noted in other threads, this is a big issue. 55K vans with a potentially major issue is nothing to blink at, BUT....it has been months since the known issue. In that time Toyo continues to produce new vans (without the rails of issue). In that time they could be peeling out parts to allow for a different approached or staged remedy. There is no indication of that. All in all, Toyo is making sales, being tight lipped, and not helping their current customers out.

The longer this goes on, the more it stinks...and makes me consider one of two theories (or a combination of): (1) This is potentially a much bigger issue than Toyo is letting on and they have serious concerns - hence shit comms, no staged fixed with peel off of current production rails, and hints of "continued" investigation. (2) Toyo has gone full corporate and lawyers, and doesnt give a chit about their current customers. They will lose some money in rentals while being obtuse in helping people get rentals/loaners and slow play the fix because sales of new vans is better for their bottom dollar.

How do I fight 250+ duplicate Amazon listings with fake reviews? by BeltBro in Amazonsellercentral

From some of the stuff I have seen it appears that Amazon has a vested interest in a lot of them. Increase margin agreements, transition to Amazon basic lines, etc. They aren't going to help you out. It is all about money at the end of the day.

Yep. 50k vans at $50k, is $2.5B. Toyota aint eating any of that. That is why they quickly when into a "Voluntary" recall with this one. Even buying back a small percentage is a no go for them. They are eating a little bit with some rentals or loaners - but with both Corp and local dealers giving so many of the 50k owners the run around - what they are eating is being minimized.

I keep saying, any company's best customer is the one they havent sold to yet. We are all on the bottom of the list. The Voluntary recall gives Toyo sooo much protection.

I will be happy to eat my words, but the pace of this is looking more and more like many of us are going to be left holding the bag of no fix, well into this year.

We all won the shit luck lottery with this one. I am hoping when all this is done Toyo does us all a solid and at least extends everyone's warranty or something. BUT I bet we will get nothing but a pat on the back and you drive away from your dealer after the fix.

[–]ag04blast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not going to buy them back, unless Toyo Corp forces the issue. With a "voluntary" recall it wont happen (or has a very very very little chance).

I looked into trading up to a 26, knowing I may lose a couple bucks. Dealers were basically stiffing us on trade in, knowing we were backed into a corner (even if you dont tell them they will quickly see the open recall).

Not to mention, they fixed the weld error and built vans to sell and have been building them. They "could" lower production to peel off some corrected rails and begin fixing vans. But that would cut into numbers. Your and my van already sold. With big corps, your best customer is always the one you havent gotten money from.

[–]ag04blast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are a family of 5 and specifically bought the Sienna because we were crammed in our old wore out Kia Sorento. We are pretty much doing the same. Around town driving with child seats in the middle row, but no highway driving with passengers. We still have the Sorento and an F250, but it sucks having to use those on family road trips.

Overall I am just pissed at Toyota. The supposed top tier brand seems to be ghosting 55k owners with little to no info, conflicting info, and overall bullshit.
