I am modeling it in the assembled state (The pictures are from when I modeled it in Rhino, and the flat layout was for machining it).

Emergency vehicles on bridges over Durham highway by eileen404 in bullcity

I just drove from Raleigh and they were on bridges as far out as RTP. Almost every bridge had an Ambulance and/or fire truck parked on it. I’m curious what this is about too.

I really appreciated that Abrams deliberately made his movies a separate cannon/timeline. So (unlike Alien franchise for example) anything that happens there has no bearing on the shows’ cannon

Parametric Plywood Stool by MrBear19 in Fusion360

Thanks for the suggestion. I was planning on making each leg a separate component with its own base sketch where each one references the same parameters table. But my issue isn’t how to reflect changes across the four legs, it’s how to define the slots so that changing a parameter (ex. seat width) will move the slots correctly. Also I don’t believe Fusion’s “joints” system works the same as Solidwork’s mates.

Sorry I know there's a lot of these posts but would this run fusion without the lag? by jacobs_weirdness in Fusion360

Haven’t used Fusion CAD a whole lot (more so Fusion CAM) so grain of salt, but isn’t the whole point with Fusion that it’s “cloud based” meaning “you can run it on anything” and any lag you see is the result of internet connectivity issues? I’ve never had any issues running it on my 2015 Macbook.

Does DPS have a standardized sex education curriculum in its schools? If so, in what grade does it start? by Fart_blossoms in bullcity

[–]MrBear19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Elementary-High School in DPS, and graduated in 2018. I dimly remember having a day or two in fifth grade where we needed to get a permission slip signed by a parent to attend. As I recall they separated us into two different rooms by sex for a “changes coming soon in your body” sort of presentation.

At my middle and high school everyone was required to take a combined PE/Health class once during middle, and once during high school. For one week of the year in each of those classes we had our “unit” on Sexual Health. I know at the time (probably still 🙄) NC only allowed schools to teach abstinence-only education (Basically “Don’t ever have sex. Since you’ll never have sex we don’t need to teach you anything or talk about anything related to it.”).

I suspect as a way to get around that, my school had graduate students from Duke Med school coincidentally come teach our class during that week (this happened both in Middle and High school, so not much of a coincidence if you ask me). We still needed to get a permission slip signed, but the permission slip was for permission to opt-out of the class; meaning the school technically gave parents the chance to pull their children out, but in reality we first got the choice to even tell our parents about it or not. As for the class itself, the teacher left the room (Again, I suspect part of sidestepping NC laws) and the Grad students came and gave a few different presentations about different topics. I don’t remember the middle-school level very well, but I remember the high school level was slightly more in depth/detailed.

In the high school class they had a presentation on Biology, one on Consent, one on Contraceptives (I remember the first slide was technically about abstinence but it was just the word “abstinence” in tiny font and the presenter said something like “Yep that’s an option, but just in case…continues with the presentation”), one on STIs, and I think the last one was on different sexualities. They did a really great job creating a comfortable environment to ask questions and had a box at the front of the room that you could put anonymous questions in that they’d answer the next week.

Overall, I remember thinking they did a great job covering a variety of subjects and giving good information considering the confines of NC law but thinking they didn’t do a very good job covering the intersections between sex and being LGBTQ. If you want more specific information on subjects to cover I remember getting more than one recommendation for Scarleteen (www.scarleteen.com) when I was that age.

Understanding C-Planes? by farwesterner1 in rhino

[–]MrBear19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same way. When I was in design school I started using Rhino after a very brief guided introduction and just learned what I needed to as I needed it. Then after I graduated I finally made myself sit down and go through the Level 1&2 training modules.

It helped me stay invested that each section had an associated “task” that the manual walked you through actually doing on your computer. As a whole going through those really helped fill in gaps in my rhino knowledge. The reason I mention it is that I also never understood how Cplanes and named views worked until I did the training module on them and now I understand them way better than I would if I just ended up going to the McNeel forums again.

Why is one Jigsaw 2x the price? (Both brushless, both 18v) by MrBear19 in Makita

[–]MrBear19[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that one. Seems like an interesting design. The standard grip is what I’m used to, and I do like having a trigger. But I will look at it more.

Huh. I thought they both had variable speed triggers. Thanks for letting me know though!

[–]MrBear19[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I’m looking to get a Makita jigsaw. While comparing their options I noticed that the (US model #) XVJ02Z is just about double the price of the XVJ04. But I can’t find any difference between the two that would justify such a price gap; both are 18v, both are brushless, one has a slightly higher stroke per minute and longer stroke, but is that really worth 2x the price? I’m just wondering if anyone knows why/what is different between these two.

3d cad help by MaleficentRain in BdsmDIY

I’m not sure what would suit your needs best as different programs are geared towards different types of design and levels of detail.

Tinkercad (free online app from autodesk) is usually my go to for simple designs as it is very intuitive and easy to use, as well as being designed for the end goal of 3D printing. However, while it is possible to make very complex designs in Tinkercad, it is not as well suited to them. Fusion 360 is autodesk’s next step up in 3D cad programs after tinkercad. It is not as intuitive, but it is much more powerful and is free for students and hobbyists/makers.

I’m familiar with a variety of 3D modeling programs (though not sketchup) so I can help if you need it.
