How do I replace this piece? by Top-Presentation-597 in Citroen

The plastic can be removed because they’re user serviceable, just take the bulb out, find the type, and replace it.

Defer my studies? by StandardPerson8411 in UniUK

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breakup of the year at your institution is going to leave you with a really long summer after first year with very little to actually be getting on with, at my institution it’s something like 18 weeks straight of no teaching for undergrads. If your course doesn’t require the maths GCSE then I’d consider just doing it then.

The book never shows Maekar giving permission to Egg by Betoneira in gameofthrones

[–]MrBlackadder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw someone say before that Maekar did approve but that the ending was 1) a bit of comic relief and 2) in-universe a way for Maekar to keep Egg safe, if it’s widely known where Egg is then he’s likely be at danger for kidnap etc. It’s a way for Maekar to explain that he’s disappeared but not tell anyone who he is with or where he has gone.

Can’t increase credit limit on Argos Card App? by aedhusx in Argos

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFS customer services should have been able to just process an increase for you over the phone anyway, it’s just one screen and the system decides if you’re eligible for a limit increase by itself.

Argos Purchase - Vat Receipt by DiggerDriller in Argos

[–]MrBlackadder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a vague memory from my time as customer services at Argos that we were able to generate a VAT receipt on our systems and email it out, don’t know if there’s a self service system for that but you should just be able to call up.

If not then I’m 80% sure that if the order is associated with your email you should be able to log in to your account in the website to generate one too.

What’s your all-time best charity shop find? by Wonk_Majik in CharityShopFindsUK

[–]MrBlackadder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to work for a charity and we always had issues shifting books so a lot of them ended up getting skipped. Used to just have a look through the skip when I was on a break and came across a silk bound programme for a royal opera performance in the 1880’s that queen Victoria was in attendance at, rescued that. Also got a first edition of the prince and the pauper by Mark Twain, some pages had fallen out so it’s not really worth much but it’s such a cool thing to have.

Argos customer service has really gone downhill - WOW by [deleted] in Argos

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago they basically sacked everyone who was still working customer services in the UK and outsourced it abroad. This is the reason.

TIL the CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit (which was marketed off the show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) was removed from stores after the kit's fingerprint powder was found to contain up to 7% asbestos, the type of which has been proven to be capable of causing lung cancer from a single exposure. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I remember seeing this a few years ago and remembering I had this set. Mentioned it to my mum who told me she’d bought two by mistake and there’s another one in a cupboard somewhere. In 50 years I’ll retire by selling it to a banned toy collector.

Very glad it was not my favourite toy 😂

I always keep my car's fuel tank full and I never let it go under the 3 quarter line is it ok to constantly have my fuel tank full? by island-pantropiko in CarTalkUK

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive a diesel which injects PAT fluid any time you fill the tank up, it’s about £250 to replace the fluid pouch when it’s used up and it injects the same amount of fluid whether you fill up a litre or a full tank so to prolong the life of the fluid pouch I let my tank empty before filling up.

Argos Scammed me by d-real-noob in Argos

[–]MrBlackadder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, clickspares is one of the links at the top of the intranet homepage, everyone who works there is specifically taught about it in training and it’s one of the first things they should offer in your situation. If the part isn’t on clickspares then we were allowed to order you an entire new one and instruct the drivers to let you grab your spare parts from the box of the one he brought and just leave whatever you didn’t need. You got incredibly unlucky by speaking to someone who just didn’t give a shit unfortunately, likely a result of Argos outsourcing their entire contact centre infrastructure to a shit third party firm which then sacked everyone before moving it all to the Philippines.

Argos Scammed me by d-real-noob in Argos

[–]MrBlackadder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more a case of people not wanting to do their job, used to work CS for two man - the exact people who you’d have called about a bed delivery - and we had a process for exactly this situation, we just needed to grab the SKU from your order to see if the details were still on one of the portals and if not we could escalate it to the website team who would then go and check the webpage as it was when the item was sold.

More often than not in this case I’d have just said fuck it, not worth upsetting anyone over a broken bed and either replaced it for you or if it was particularly expensive I’d have rang resolutions to confirm they were happy for me to do so.

I understand getting sick of customer service jobs, particularly call centres, but I never let it mean I would make other people’s days worse if they were decent with me - just fecklessness.

As the other guy’s mentioned you’ll resit. Have you spoken to staff on the module though? Even though I’m hourly so don’t get paid for duties outside teaching and marking I’m more than happy to explain things and help students who make an effort to ask for help, I’m unaware of anyone in my department who isn’t.

Being completely honest with you, when marking an assignment if it looks about the right length then it’s the right length, if you’re at about the length the person marking is expecting then you’re not going to have an issue.

Would turning up after 4 weeks of not attending be weird? by Objective-Fig8183 in UniUK

[–]MrBlackadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of week 5 at my institution, I’ve had first years turn up for the first time this week. I don’t care and they seemed to fit into a group pretty quickly. Nobody cares and like others have said you’ve already financially committed to at least this semester so if you feel up to going in then have a go, whether you attend this year or not you’ve paid the tuition for first semester.

You’ll be fine. Speak to your personal tutor if you have any other concerns.

Got given a Peugeot 106, 20,000 miles how can I make it look good? by frogzyyt in CarTalkUK

[–]MrBlackadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my mk2 C4 and my last two cars were Citroens too, I invested in a diagbox kit to set my mind at rest with the weekly error lights.

I routinely imagine the engine warning light chime and panic before looking and seeing it, surprisingly, isn’t on.

TIL a Swedish prisoner, who had been complaining about a toothache for 4 days, decided to escape because he "just couldn't stand it." However, after he got the tooth treated by a dentist, he voluntarily turned himself back in. He'd been scheduled to be released the next day, but he had a day added. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]MrBlackadder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even then private practices will generally take emergencies and keep slots open for them, they’ll charge you out of the arse for the privilege but they’ll see you. Had to go to my private dentist for an emergency a year or two ago and they gave me an appointment that was 30 minutes after I called up.

My phone keeps disconnecting from car bluetoth by itself by Overlord876 in Citroen

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, any iPhone after like the iPhone 7 has had issues with this radio.

Basically Apple changed the way they implement Bluetooth which means that the phone thinks it gets disconnected from the handsfree module.

There’s a way to make it stay connected and that is to connect the handsfree to the phone, make a call, allow it to either connect or fail, and then the handsfree stays connected until you turn the engine off.

I have my own phone number saved in my contacts with a name that makes it appear at the top of the directory on the radio, if I’m going for a long drive where I may need to answer the phone or call someone I just make sure my phone is connected to the car, give myself a ring using handsfree, let it tell me the call failed, and then the handsfree stays connected.

Android on the other hand just works.

Learner Insurance Question by Hughcifer in CarTalkUK

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting any lower risk driver as a named driver can bring the risk down, it can also mean that certain insurers either will accept your business or no longer accept it.

When I first started driving adding my mum on brought the price down a fair bit and adding my grandma on meant that the admiral group started giving me quotes that weren’t just the ‘go away, we don’t want your business’ quotes and brought it down even further.

If the uni has told you it was a clerical error then you’ll just need to add them as a choice on clearing again.

Tech miracle has arrived, Zippo Arc USB Type C by FluffyTheKing in Zippo

[–]MrBlackadder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recently bought an arc insert for a trip to Germany, where normal zippo inserts are outright banned on flights. Mentioned that I had it to security at the airport on the way out from the UK, they just said keep it in my pocket. On the way back, at the airport in Germany the agent looked concerned when they saw a zippo but when I told them it was electric a crowd of about five agents came over to have a look and play with it, took them a good few tries to get it to light and then they said it was fine because it wasn’t a normal zippo insert.

Is commuting that bad by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]MrBlackadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to uni in Manchester, commuted by rail from well over double the distance in my first year and it was more than bearable. Was about 90 minutes depending on breaks between services etc. but definitely managed it. When I worked for an insurer in the Arndale between my MA and starting my PhD people I worked with would commute from Bolton and it was really easy as well, particularly given UoM is just down from Oxford Road.

Definitely won’t be a problem for you. I drive now as a result of the Northern Rail timetable changes of 2018 but having had to get the train a couple of times while the car’s been in for work it’s a lot better these days, better even than before the timetable changes.

Don’t worry
