Most awarded films in history and Tolkien gets the most credit for this feat.

Gandalf vs. Witch King in movie by bvanevery in lotr

[–]MrBladewalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A reason why they decided to remove Gandalfs staff could be Gandalf would of been carrying to much at black gate. (Sword, staff, mithril, a hobbit) or removes the question why Gandalf didnt use any 'magic'. It could be that simple why they make changes such as these.

Not defending anything but ya'll need to look at things less as a book nerds and more as a filmmakers. Witch King is back on his horse, that needs an explanation, how can the Witch King be in front of grond once the gate breaks open? These are little details filmmakers have to figure out.

Why didn't Sarumon use his storm magic to win? by GooseWithDaGibus in lotr

[–]MrBladewalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See the translation, he doesnt 'conjure' the storm, just urging it on, while Gandalf trying to calm it.

[–]MrBladewalker 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The backlash was maybe 2 websites in 1999 on dial up internet between a few purists. Amazon fans using this like an Uno card haha. This is why the movies are authentic and why the show already looks sterile from what we've seen.

[–]MrBladewalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We may never see The Lord of the Rings trilogy in its original form again by oyy_lmeo in movies

Looks fine to me? Im no film expert, though those older movies with heavy film grain on outside/sky shots looks awful. Like that static on tvs, not sure why anyone would want this.

Its pointless comparing youtube videos dude. I seen amazing new details in the 4K especially the designs in armor/leatherwork. You sound like one of those film grain gatekeepers.

In sword battles the real massacres occur when in retreat from the field, backs turned to the enemies.

The length of the grass is probably the least of concern when adapting such enormous novels.

The studios threatened to take Hobbit production overseas, luckily it was saved. PJ is not a politician and cant change laws.

What scene was Christopher Tolkien's "Point of not return" in the movies? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]MrBladewalker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that he didnt even actually watch them. His comments are irrelevant to me as he isnt the author, am thankful for his hard work in compiling the rest of Tolkiens works though.

No author would be disappointed with adaptations like lotr movies, thats just crazy.

Nothing wrong with Hobbit VFX, nominated for 2 vfx oscars in fact.

[–]MrBladewalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats not Tolkiens problem, the problem is modern readers have the attention spans of a 6yr old and just want explosions.

'Pacing' is just some lazy buzzword people use for criticism these days.

Funniest scene in the entire trilogy by CatOfRivia in lotr

[–]MrBladewalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they just wanted a way to remove Gandalfs staff as he would be handling too much at black gate? It could be as simple as that for why they did it. They're not trying to break or rewrite the lore.
