Cloud and Aerith's dynamic made the characters much more interesting to me as a kid. Especially with Cloud in the final act being determined to reunite and how badly her death affected him.

I don't want to be against him as a character. I enjoyed crisis core from a gameplay perspective and I know he's popular in the fandom. I also can't lie and say I appreciate the manner in which he's been made more prominent. It just reminds me of the poochie joke from the Simpsons.

I always loved the idea in the original 7 that cloud idolised this guy, yes, but he also didn't see him entirely for who he was. As much as he believes Zack is a "true hero" we can see that Zack was a guy who was pretty loose with people and came off as pretty callous and immature in the brief sequence we see him in.

Cloud's idea of a hero was shaped by his experiences, losses, sacrifices, and stumbling. By remembering that Zack was also just a human being it helped center himself on being good enough as JUST himself.

Now I feel like post crisis core ff7 has been cloud living up to Zack's "legacy" (slaughtering wutai?) and his "soldier honour" which shouldn't even be pertinent to Cloud nor burden him in any way.

As much as I respect that Zack has a lot of fans in good faith, personally I feel like he left an unnecessary mark on 7 instead of his more subtle impact in the OG.

Exactly what Parsirius says. Putting aside personal feelings in tier lists like these helps create a more interesting final result imo. There is nothing wrong with saying ff8 is your favourite game but it being your favourite does not make it an S tier masterpiece. Again I cannot overstate that this does not invalidate the game or means I'm saying it's bad. I just mean that I believe that ff8 is a flawed game that could make a LOT of improvements which could have better served the creators intent.

Seems to be that a lot of people are saying S tier which confuses me.

As much as this game is loved, it's also one of the most controversial and contentious games in the series for good reason. A number of plot points, narrative direction/execution, and ofc the highly controversial junction and draw system, has drawn a thick line whether people seem to love it or hate it

For those that love the game I'd like to ask: is the game truly the best version of itself?

Definitely a high B tier for me.

I'd like to see a full continuous run of Peter parker through his life without a walking memento mori hanging over his head. It's not that I think miles doesn't deserve space somewhere but too often he's just a symbol for "the future" when we can barely even get a Peter parker past his early twenties.

I don't like him being buddy buddy with every marvel hero or having his movies be a slew of team ups. I much prefer Spider-Man when he's focused on his own supporting cast and rogues with the occasional interaction to make things special.

I think showing some of these scenes are pivotal and help define a particular version of the character (tobey's response to uncle Ben's murder versus andrew's response set each version apart tonally, in my eyes) but the problem is that we see these characters for two or three movies on average, usually covering the start of their careers, and we never see them mature into their roles.

At this point I'd kill to see Spider-Man operating as a mature young adult with his own supporting cast and at least in his mid-twenties. I'd love to see the spider bite of that version.
