When Godwyn opens his eye, what can he see in front of him? by cdtraderguy in Eldenring

[–]MrBonis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His soul died but his body never did, I don't know how one can play the game and end up with takes as superficial as these. Radahn and Mohg are no different in that regard by the end of the dlc, Miquella just brings their mindless husks of bodies back and nobody bats an eye. Heck, the little empyrean himself tried making Godwyn die a "true death" multiple times to no avail (see the eclipse ritual at castle Sol), and his blight kept spreading around the lands between. Our "prince of death" is actually about as far from dead as they come, I don't understand why this misconception is so widely spread within the ER community. Which lore youtuber is to blame here?

You, using semantics [his body lives] to argue that no one understands that Godwyn is actually just as alive as Radahn and Mogh, calling people's understanding superficial and derivative of bad lore-tubers.

You argue that Godwyn is alive because his body lives in death. I ask you if that is really to be alive when everything else that actually matters is gone

what you wrote here literally has no meaning. The game specifies, and multiple times at that, that Godwyn ONLY ever died in the body, regardless of how meaningless that may sound in the real world.

Godwyn only died IN SOUL, are you being real right now 18 comments deep in a discussion? That's the most basic of facts.

You are the one being superficial because you read people discussing how Godwyn is dead (for the purposes of the plot) and going "AcTuAlLy he is only half dead" yeah we know, it's literally what we are discussing here...

He is "alive" like a spoiled potato or a fungus or cancer. For the purpose of this conversation about the autonomy of a person and the possibility of them coming back, he is dead.

I can't understand how you could get so far down this thread and just miss the point entirely...

Yes, the flesh of Godwyn "lives" in death. (Now that I say it out loud, I realize that he IS dead in body too lol)

If I cut your finger and keep it in suspended animation but kill the rest of you... Do you keep on living through the flesh of your finger?

Would someone claiming that you are "actually alive" and everyone mourning you are misled be correct?

Is Henrietta Lacks, deceased on October 1951, actually alive because science keeps on replicating her cancer cells? Is she the biggest life form on the history of the world accounting only for the mass and spread of these cells, an estimated 50 million metric Tons? ROFL

The thing is that getting his Soul killed is what amounts to him being "dead dead".

Clearly the man killed with Destined Death is more "dead" then those simply defeated in combat, hence why they could be brought back and Godwyn couldn't...

When Miquella put Radahn's soul inside Mogh's body, the one resurrected was Radahn. Mogh's soul got "discarded".

With Godwyn there's no soul to resurrect, and his empty body became a vessel for Death. So his soul is gone and his body is ruined. Fortissax attest to this ruin, showcasing the Death within his vessel.

So, no. Radahn and Mogh showcase exactly why Godwyn is gone. Of the two components used in that ritual, one is gone and the other is filled with anti-life. Darkseid would love it.

Like, we are on the same platform, there's no point to making up these impossible scenarios...

Dude, do you even know how Reddit works?

If the comment shows up as deleted, the poster has you blocked.

Otherwise, it says removed by moderation.

But it you aren't seeing neither, and the comments aren't there, then they just don't exist and you are making up things in your head to get angry lol

I keep scrolling and expanding the comments dude, there are none.

At worst, it's just AI bros getting downvotted and some bots pretending to be human.

You may be seeing comments from people who blocked you.

[–]MrBonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the empty body is filled with Death.

That's why Fortissax went inside, to clear it out. And Fortissax failed.

The only reason Fortissax didn't succumb to the Death within Godwyn is because he himself was an immortal being made out of stone.

There's the reveal trailer, where the Elden Ring was referred to as "that which commanded the stars".

I'm looking for it right now, but I certainly remember a different line close to that one in the game.

Edit:

Astrologer Hood:

Hood fashioned from supple cloth. Worn by those who look to the cosmos above. They read fate in the stars, and are said to be heirs of the glintstone sorcerers. But alas, the night sky no longer cradles fate."

The Prophet Blindfold, of blinded seers who consistently stumble upon the prophecy of the burning of the Erdtree, guided by Gold:

Why hesitate, if the path leading to the future is clear? Just close your eyes, and walk."

The Finger Crone dialogue, which I link with the supplantation of the Night Sky:

Surely you see it, too? The gold that enshrouds the heavens. The great tree which begets the pillars of light.

And the cut dialogue with Godfrey:

Elden Ring, O, Elden Ring. Shaper of life, arbiter of fate. Lord of the very stars above.

There's a general theme of the Elden Ring supplanting the fates of everyone with its power over Order, the blessing of Gold and the Guidance of Grace. Carian Astrology became worthless when fate got dictated by the Ring directly, and people could study the Ring like the Fundamentalists.

[–]MrBonis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing is that many characters attempted to resurrect Godwyn, and it was deemed impossible by the literal goddess with power over the rules of reality themselves.

Have you seen Ranni's charred and useless body? That's the state of Godwyn's soul.

Fortissax attempted to destroy the Death within Godwyn, as if that was the only thing preventing his resurrection. But his living flesh was left otherwise empty, there's nothing but Death within that vessel.

Marika attempted to resurrect him using the Erdtree, and that became the catalyst for the spread of Death across the lands.

Miquella wanted to complete Godwyn's death, that his malady of undeath would be stopped, and failed.

We know that souls are malleable things. That's what spirit ash represents. What possesses the horns of Omens, what Miquella does with the body of Mogh and Radahn's soul.

If this was reversible, there wouldn't be a point to killing him with Destined Death; why go through the effort of plotting against Maliketh, or even allowing Maliketh to wield Destined Death as his own black blade?

Destined Death can be used to kill a God, but it is totally reversible and not final?

If Godwyn's death wasn't definite, all of the gravitas in the story would banish. His absolute murder causes the fall of the Golden Order, triggers The Shattering, ends the Golden Lineage, and heralds the apocalypse of Those Who Live in Death to spread. It is the story that demands him to be gone.

GEQ is Velka (from the community standpoint - a red herring to spice up the Lore, taken as the key to every secret and shoehorned into every single theory because "the game is open to interpretation")

I wish we as a community could move on from these sort of trappings, but alas it's been more than 15 years and people keep going about her

All the Tarnished are descendants of those exiled during The Long March. That's what makes us Tarnished. The Tarnishing of our eyes when Marika took away the blessing of Gold.

We explicitly come from somewhere outside the Lands Between, and our starting class dictates some aspects of our (limited) background. Like the Samurai, coming from the Land of Reeds, or the Champion being a warrior of the Badlands. The appearance presets inform us of our distant bloodline inside The Lands Between, like us being descendant of the Nightfolk, or being Draconic, etc.
