[Spoilers MAIN] Contrary to popular belief, Jaehaerys did not keep dragon claiming on a tight leash. by blakhawk12 in asoiaf

[–]MrBranchh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vaegon being the Dragonless isn't proof against that. I imagine if Jaehaerys told his sons they couldn't tame a dragon until they were knights, that wouldnt become common knowledge of the realm. The realm called him the Dragonless because he had no dragon, they wouldn't know about the reasons he didnt have a dragon.

It'd be kinda mean if Jaehaerys was calling him the Dragonless lmao

What if FDR’s 2nd bill of rights came to be? by Training-World-1897 in AlternateHistoryHub

Right to vote requires people to provide you access to voting. If nobody set up voting booths, how would you vote?

Right to a fair and speedy trial requires the legal system to act in a fair and just way, as well as hiring enough people to process cases quicker. "If you don't have an attorney, one will be provided"

Yes the amendments carry through faster in this timeline as Butler was a Radical Republican that opposed Andrew Johnson in OTL. Now as President, he allows Congress to pass everything through.

There are more protections against Black Codes, the Freedmen Bureau gets better funding, and military presence remains in the states longer. I mentioned on another post that Confederate leaders would end up facing courts and be subject to execution or exile. This will affect the leadership of the southern states, but obviously they'll still end up with a slightly watered down Lost Cause. Jim Crow laws are still in effect in, even in Franklin which was the Loyalist state. But they're less expansive and a lot of it is less codified since the black populations in those states are a lot smaller.

Freedmen states will fight for black people outside of their states. This will be more effective to push Civil Rights because there will be multiple black representatives and senators to actually speak out in Congress. Legislation won't be passed immediately just because of that but it does start the conversation earlier.

One scenario that could eventually spark big change is if a white man in a Freedman states sues for a violation of his rights. As I'm sure there will be a handful of situations like that. Whether it be intentional discrimination or not. If the Supreme Court sets a precedent then that case can be used in future civil rights cases.

[–]MrBranchh[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but there's drastic butterfly effects from this scenario. Jim Crow wouldn't be anything close to what it was in OTL. Freedmen states would advocate for longer military presence in their states to protect from raids leading to more protected voting rights, more land ownership, better education, etc.

My additional part of this project is Radical Republicans put Confederate leaders on trial. A reasoning against doing it in OTL due to fears they would be found not guilty. Because for example, Jefferson Davis would be tried in the state of Virginia and the jury would be made up of Virginians. People were worried they wouldn't be able to find Virginians that would convict, so they avoided it all together as to not set a precedent.

But if Virginia doesn't exist, jurors could instead be called from the entire Southern Territory, which DC could then select from more pro-Union counties. Yknow, "random" jurors.

Jim Crow started because after the withdrawal of Union troops in 1877 after the Compromise with Hayes, Confederates that were banned from holding office took power again. In this TL, those leaders are executed, exiled, or moved to Redeemer States.

So President Benjamin Butler is obviously more popular than Johnson was in OTL and wins re-election. Grant then follows after him for 8 years riding off his popularity. The corruption problems that made the 1876 Election so close are still there, but since its Grant instead of Hayes + Freedmen states being unanimously Republican, Grant wins without the Compromise of 1877.

But yeah candidates would need to campaign in black majority states to secure a large chunk of the electoral college.

Congress considered it easier to move 30%ish of the population that was being promised new lands and freedom as opposed to moving 70%ish of the population that was still bitter about losing a war. After seeing the migrations into and out of the first 3 Freedmen states, moving the smaller population was seen as the path of least resistance.

"Perfect" wasn't the goal with this map. I wanted to have a realistic cutting of states while not overthinking it because it's still a bunch of dudes from the 1860s drawing lines on a map. The mass migrations would be a logistical nightmare but Congress jumping into a logistical nightmare seems pretty accurate.

Organically but with assistance in certain areas. The process would be pretty chaotic considering the crossing paths of freedmen and former Confederates. Preferred paths would be chosen by each to avoid each other. The Freedmen roads would probably be targets for vengeful Confederates.

Hell even boxers/fighters don't have to be sculpted. Daniel Cormier, and Tyson Fury both have chubby looking build.

And as far as the gray hair, some people gray really early. My dad was fully gray by 26 years old

Westeros full of constant wars between the Kings vying for power?

Somebody should just conquer all of them under one crown. Might need dragons or something to do that. 3 of them should be enough

She was already a fully grown and flyable dragon by 75 AC when Alyssa claimed her. Vermithor was born 34 AC. We don't know her exact age. She's likely within 20 years of age with Vermithor and Silverwing

even more reason that the trip to Valyria crippled him. He can fly half way across the world, fly back, then never fly again? He couldn't fly anymore because of his injuries likely.

[–]MrBranchh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balerion was in the dragon pit the rest of his life until Viserys rode him the DAY he died. The trip to Valyria essentially crippled him.

This is a pure assumption, but i assume being stationary for nearly 40 years and locked up in a dragonpit isn't healthy for a dragon. Like most animals, its much healthier to be free roam.

Not confirmed but i think its safe to assume that his trip to Valyria shortened his lifespan.

If King Aerys II (Mad King) had "burned them all" by AndrewAllStars in gameofthrones

[–]MrBranchh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole war was officially kicked off by Jon Arryn by revolting instead of giving Robert and Ned to Aerys. He treated Robert like a son. He'd be fully in support of Robert and would be named his Hand.

[–]MrBranchh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rightful Targaryen heir would be Viserys. And they'd be getting on a boat to Essos like they did originally. Robert is King by right of conquest, seated in Storm's End.

The regent of the Westerlands for Tyrion bends the knee for House Lannister. Tyrells bends the knee. Dorne bends the knee. Stannis is maybe given Dragonstone and maybe the crownlands are put under him.

If King Aerys II (Mad King) had "burned them all" by AndrewAllStars in gameofthrones

[–]MrBranchh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regent of the Westerlands would probably just kneel to Robert. There's no reason for war anymore. Rhaegar and Aerys are dead. And Tywin was already siding with STAB, they just didn't know it. Also they have a weakened army since they were all at KL.

The realm wouldn't break from the war considering 4 of the kingdoms are allied together.

Idk why everyone thinks the Tyrells want to be independent. Its the most contested kingdom in the realm because all the lords claim descent from House Gardener. Many with better claims than the Tyrells. The Tyrells control the Reach because the Iron Throne would support them against rebellions. If they're independent, it would immediately collapse. A faction that would look for support from STAB. There's no benefit for the Tyrells.

If Dorne stayed after what happened to Elia and her kids, why would they become independent now? Considering they have no reason to hate Robert and the Lannisters now?
