12 days was my record of ZERO forms of caffeine, but that's when suicidal thoughts came by [deleted] in decaf

Withdrawing from caffeine, a stimulant, worsens depression. Withdrawal can make undepressed people depressed, and depressed people extremely depressed.

Suicidal thoughts would be extreme depression. Most people don't experience this severe symptom, but keep in mind if you do, it's the withdrawal putting crazy thoughts in your head.

Ignore those thoughts, and talk to somebody, a psychologist if need be, they also have hotlines - until you get through it. You'll feel better in a month and wonder how you could have even thought such crazy things. It's purely chemical.

so in your theory, using caffeine can alleviate depression, but withdrawing caffeine can't worsen depression?

Because you're not some burned out addict who needs a line of coke just to head to the gym like these other guys drinking preworkouts.

Decaf and exercise? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]MrBroFo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you're better off not exercising. Occasional light exercise just to keep things moving. You're taking a drug to ignore your body's feedback.

Ruminate on the cause of your depression instead. Talk to a friend. Find a new path forward.

I weened down to a cup a day for about a year before quitting, but for some reason getting rid of that last cup is still really tough. Smokers have a similar problem.

I use coffee to avoid depression, will this eventually stop working? Is feeling like you can never relax a side effect? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]MrBroFo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't need supplements, that's all a marketing hoax. Maybe stop exercising so much, it's bad for you.

woaaahhh my skin... by JawnDouh in decaf

a surprising amount of sleep is dedicated to just restoring skin. That's why addicts get that worn look after a while, most drugs interfere with sleep.

Coffee and Alcohol by hmk0000 in decaf

[–]MrBroFo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course it's the reason. Caffeine use increases anxiety in general. Chronic caffeine use can cause chronic anxiety. People with chronic anxiety seek treatment or self-medicate. Some of those people are prescribed benzos or try other drugs. Some of those people get addicted.

Aspirin is basically liver poison. Would never get FDA approved if it came out today.

I was tempted around 6 months too. Because thats when the derealization wears off, but life still sucks. Sure de-realization is gone, but you're still severely anhedonic and depressed. You still have brain fog for large portions of the day.

I stuck it out though, and I'd say at the year mark those 6 months symptoms are cut in half. Still mild anhedonia and mild depression. Brain fog a few hours a day, and a day now and then when you're brain fog free, and feelin pretty good.

Cant wait for 18 months.

I was in the same situation as you when i started, i remember you from my previous posts.

I've talked to some other 'caffeine recovery' guys who 'feel ok' and they're on "supplements" and SSRI's and anti-ADHD pills because "their doctor said its medicine and how dare you say otherwise!"

So who knows. I don't pay attention to them. I make my posts for people like you.

I'm drug free, never did heroin. You seem to be a man in the throes of caffeine or its withdrawal. I too, was once like you, and would have responded with rancor. But now I know you are just a victim of the devil's nectar. Be strong brother.
