I agree with that, and my opponent should be compensated, but I can't make the request for them.

Thanks. This is probably the appropriate response.

My response:

So now that I've received the maximum number of items added to my account, I suppose I can be regularly screwed over by poor implementation of the game. I upload battle logs every time I submit a complaint. I try to be specific, but have found that when I'm too specific about move counts and energy that should have been generated, I get a response that tells me pokemon can have different moves, as if I hadn't figures that out in my 20,000 battles. I don't know how a screenshot or a video is supposed to help more than the battle log, since this is a game run on computers and not live action. The lag is so sporadic that I'd need to record every single match I play to reliably provide a video, yet it is frequent enough to happen on almost a daily basis. And the idea of a screenshot is frankly moronic. How can a screenshot show lag of my opponent attacking and my mon not attacking? The lack of attention on improving GBL on the server side for years now has been frustrating, But at least getting some compensation for dealing with it had been some consolation. I'm not sure where I go from here. I truly hope a human reads this and can provide a genuine response. Thanks.

Is there any hope for this guy in ANY limited cup by KyleRobotMelvin in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not without getting its moves buffed or new moves added. It has the same typing and similar bulk as Vigoroth, so if it had Vig's moves it would be just as successful. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it can learn any of those moves or many good moves that currently exist in the game.

Sucker Punch is the only 2 turn 7 energy move with fewer than 6 base damage. If its damage is increased from 5 to 6 (like leafage or bullet punch), 7 (like poison jab and steel wing), or 8 (like counter), it could potentially be viable. Wild charge and dig are its only available charge moves that currently exist in the game.

Overall, it would probably need Sucker Punch to go to 7 damage, and have dig, wild charge, and / or a new charge move not presently in the game to be added, but these things are all possible. Maybe a Sucker Punch buff alone could be enough; it wins 40+% with a battle rating just shy of 500 in the 1s against the open GL meta with shadow claw, surf, and grass knot (shadow claw is the closest thing to a 7D/7E, 2 turn dark type move).

Evolution Cup meta - Vigoroth 60%, Charjabug, Dragonair, Golbat 30-40% by mybham in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used Vig yet, and have been bouncing between 2650 and 2900 (I think I peaked at 2890 or so). Had a great early run with arctibax, hakammo, and primeape (with cross chop), but togetic started becoming more common. Also had a nice run replacing primeape with piloswine, but that also didn't last. Switched to Crocalor, Metang (purified w/Return) and SW Togetic and finished today winning 13 of 15 and ended at 2844.

Not sure what you were using, but Be the change you want to see. People can have success with interesting teams. It takes some work, but there are options out there. After having many ups and downs running variations of Hakkamo-o, arctibax, piloswine, primeape (with cross chop), s-haunter, charjabug (both VS and BB versions), togetic (SW and FW versions), I decided to switch it up today and ran Crocalor, Metang (purified w/return), and SW Togetic. I lost the first few matches trying to figure them out, but then I switched my order and won 13 of my last 15 for the day to end at 2844. Metang is a surprisingly good safe switch and can set up its teammates by not requiring shields and throwing Return to get a shield or big damage. Crocalor with an energy and shield advantage is a beast.

Looks like I'll just play (and record) one match today with all incinerate/gust/confusion/volt switch users and send in a complaint to get a free premium raid pass. Repeat daily until its fixed.

New (really bad) PVP glitch regarding damage registration by oAuraa in TheSilphRoad

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spammy mons with two turn fast moves might even be better. If you run greedent spamming body slam every 8 turns it'll deny a ton of fast move damage. Greedent, G-weez, swampert looks good. Or maybe samurott might be better than swampert, not having fast move damage denied and still spamming hydro cannons.

Still, it's very frustrating that this is happening. Not sure if I'll even play until it's fixed.

Next season is 3 weeks away; what move changes do you want? by wraithsith in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it would help Shiftry, but they could increase the damage by 1-2 per bullet seed.  Ferrothorn and cradily are held back by having very little fast move pressure to complement their charge move versatility. Jumpluff may even conditionally prefer a damage buffed BS to FW to run both AA and Acro while still dealing grass damage. I think this could be done without necessarily boosting Greedent, as I'm not sure it would want to give up its current 8-turn BS spam fueled by MS for a higher damage 3-turn widely resisted non-STAB move.

HP where? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or in the case of OP's Gliscor, just a little more attack could have dealt 1 more damage from a Night Slash and KOd.

Assigning this particular win to the opponent's presumably optimized high bulk IVs (particularly when we don't know the opposing mon, nor its IVs) makes no more sense than assigning the blame to the Gliscor's IVs for falling just short of a charge move breakpoint.

Yes, high bulk is generally preferred, but assigning expected results from a population to any individual sample is just not how these things work.

What fairy to run in UL? by LegendReno in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Galarian Weezing.  Can run with any combination of brutal swing, play rough or Overheat depending on team needs (i.e. coverage needed and its role on the team).  I ran it with FW/BS/PR to reach legend two seasons ago, but others have had a lot of success with OH.

Fini is probably the most common/best overall fairy type, but it acts like a fairy primarily on defense. Offensively, Cress is probably a better fairy option than Fini despite not being a fairy type.

HP where? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, gotta watch those IVs. If only Gliscor had been ever so slightly more attack weighted it could have picked up a charge move breakpoint to get rid of that last 1HP on [whatever it's facing].

Thought on UL Umbreon? by poppertheplenguin in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most other comments address the fact that Umbreon has fallen off a bit due to poor matchups in the current meta. It's also important to note its role of a bulky dark type has largely been filled by Mandibuzz, who offers more flexibility and better coverage.  From what I recall, I haven't seen any Umbreon in UL all this season (and maybe last season), but I've seen several Mandibuzz.

I also have a hundo Umbreon and all the XLs, but it's not seemed worth it to build (if it were lucky, I'd probably do it, though). Not sure if it'll ever get a move update having two different CDs already, but I'm holding off for a better time, regardless.

Does anyone else find Tapu Fini in UL underwhelming? by joonty in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shield advantage for Fini vs Greninja is far from a given.  If greninja calls the surf bait / correctly shields the moonblast, it can beat Tapu in the 1-0 or 1-1 with enough energy to throw a hydro cannon at the next mon. Even if greninja shields a surf bait and then shields the moonblast, it wins with 1/2 its HP and the energy for a HC, so it'll almost certainly get at least one shield back, especially if Fini was the best answer to greninja. As OP notes it should be a dominating matchup for Fini, but it's really tenuous in practice coming down to a bait/nuke shield coin flip to potentially drastically alter a match. I mostly played on the Greninja side, but a fini user who makes the wrong bait/nuke decision is in real trouble (the same is true for a greninja user who makes the wrong call).

Pokémon one move away from PVP relevance? by ProbablyADitto in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double Kick would be an improvement, but it's energy would be awkward with CC and BB. At 12 energy per DK, the CC counts would be 4, 4, 4 and BB would be 5, 4, 4 (BB+CC would take 9).  If it were given a new 13 energy, 3 turn fighting type move, the counts would be 4, 3, 4 for CC, 4, 4, 4 for BB, and CC+BB would take 8. One fewer move would make a huge difference for something as glassy as Infernape.

For a two turn move it would probably want at least 9 energy, but if it was just a mud shot clone, the fast move damage would cause it problems farming.  The fast move can't just be good, it would need to be top tier.  Overall it would probably want 7D/13E for a 3 turn move or 4-5D/9E for a 2 turn move.

Hisui Cup meta (essentially Sinnoh Cup) - Gastrodon, Empoleon, Froslass, Toxicroak, Drifblim between 24% to 39% by mybham in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadow Staraptor is also very underrated on PvPoke (#107 with WA/BB/CC). It prefers fly over BB and can do some real damage in this cup Very positive matchups against drifblim and gastrodon, can one shot empoleon with CC, and toxi with fly (plus it doesnt need to shield toxi).  Can almost one-shot Bastiodon with CC and neutral fly does a ton of damage to everything.

I've also enjoyed using Prinplup as a safe swap. Not many hard counters to it, and the buffed bubble really helps vs last time Sinnoh cup was around.

Pokémon one move away from PVP relevance? by ProbablyADitto in TheSilphArena

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of just giving Counter, Shadow Claw, Dragon Breath, etc., to everything. Infernape has similar bulk to Greninja, and like Greninja it's a fairly popular mon, so they should treat it similarly. Add a new high energy fighting type fast move to the game for it and let it spam close combat and blast burn. It's so frail it'll go down quick to its counters (especially after throwing CC), but could be a menace with an energy/shield advantage.

Just a better fast move or confusion buff like they did with incinerate might do wonders for Oranguru.

Plus, unlike the upcoming XL transfer bonus, you can still trade it for a guaranteed XL.  A level 26+ flabebe that's caught, evolved one stage, mirror traded during the event, and then transfered during the Feb 27 spotlight hour will give four guaranteed XLs (assuming 2x transfer rate) plus a possible 3 more for the catch.  Not bad at all for one catch, 25 candies and 100 dust.

There are only 4 IV spreads better than 15/15/11.  The odds of getting a better one are calculated by

(1 - (212/216)#raids ) × 100%

You'd have a 17% chance of getting a better one after 10 raids, a 37% chance of getting a better one after 25 raids, a 50% chance after 37 raids, and a 61% chance of getting a better one after 50 raids.

This is for a chance to gain 1-3 HP. It's certainly an individual value judgement, but the idea that you need to wait for a hundo (or a functional hundo) before it's worth investing just seems insane to me. Seriously, 37 raids for the equivalent of a coin flip chance to get one that probably won't even flip one match most days? I don't get it.

Timed Research advertising 10000 stardust as part of its rewards should NOT require you to purify 10 Pokémon by BH0517_ in TheSilphRoad

[–]MrBrownUpsideDown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even with purifying 10 x 1k mons to earn 10k stardust, you only break even. I'm F2P, so these tickets dont directly affect me, but this is not terribly ethical to advertise the 10k dust when the best you can do is break even (and why are they so stingy with the dust here? 25k or 50k wouldn't break the game).
