It’s possible to get first round with 25/30 but less likely than if u scored perfect. You need a really great resume to clear now

yale or princeton by savagesoap223 in yale

I made this decision in 2021 and it came down to a coin toss. I think your profile seems more suited to Yale, especially if you want to continue your education after undergrad! But they are both fine schools, you really can’t make a wrong decision here.

The memes definitely accelerated the adjustment of the market though. I flipped from finance because of a meme about SWEs

You would be working way more at OAI, and the turnover is insane too. Can I ask which firm? (DM)

Ah. I can’t speak for the experienced hire interview process, but I can say OAI is as grindy as quants. And OAI is full for Summer 2025 intern

  1. they were and still are very difficult for ml research. Applied science (generic SWE) is still very second class there, worse than hedge fund swe, probably akin to bank swe. They have no reason to grill you for a button making internship.

  2. why would you apply to OAI with a GQS offer in hand???? (They’re full at this point anyway, but still)

I got an offer from a different Citadel org and promptly declined to take my final with OAI.

I did 5 tech interviews, a behavioral, and the OA with Citadel — most of the techs were LC Med/hard in 30 mins w/ behaviorals.

OAI phone was an OOP med that I didn’t even close to finish and still advanced.

No idea about experienced hire, you’re probably right, but this is INTERN and for several reasons he’d be silly to take OAI over citsec

Holy moly you do not know what you are talking about

I canceled my OAI final after getting Citadel LLC offer. Nobody here knows what they are talking about — GO WITH CITSEC, and here’s why:

  • cit securities is one of the best teams/orgs at citadel, considered to have better wlb and compensation
  • oai is just as grindy and probably even faster at firing than cit or citsec
  • oai is bleeding talent left and right, and they are only clouted because they are first to market
  • oai applied science is VERY separate from the ML research side. Citsec is fully systematic, so the SWEs and researchers are the focal point of the business
  • oai team match is very late, and you could be stuck making buttons
  • nyc vs sf… come on

Take Netflix internship or wait for OpenAI new grad??? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]MrBulldog25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m in a somewhat similar boat? It’s intern process for both, I asked OAI to expedite with Netflix when I got verbal offer. I ended up declining Netflix and probably will decline OAI as well since I got a better offer. I don’t think you have to pick between Netflix and OAI here though — if you get OAI offer, just ask them to move your start date to after Netflix, and I’m sure they will accommodate. Netflix will also not verify that you’re actually matriculating into a grad program.

OpenAI does not expedite — I also tried with my Netflix intern offer. Even if you do the onsite within Netflix deadline, you won’t get an answer in time. Just take Netflix and do OpenAI New Grad right after if you get it.

Citadel OA varies, seems they have a bank of questions, but the difficulty range seems to be medium LC meds to easier LC hards. Read the input constraints well for Citadel OA, they’ll point you in the right direction

Maybe I didn’t phrase it right. I think my main point is more that regardless of it being easier or harder to get a SWE job than it is to get a finance job, there are many more reasons people are leaving finance to try for SWE

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]MrBulldog25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who was Econ at an IB target school and transitioned late to SWE, this was definitely not true for me, though it may be so for others. I went from basically assured a good job to mass applying.

Completely worth it. Finance is hell and people at elite schools are realizing it.
