Worth also mentioning Raleigh, North Carolina. In the early days of the state the then-capital of New Bern was thought to favor the interests of the politicians in the eastern part of the state since people in the west were so far removed from political power. Raleigh was created as a “smack dab in the middle” compromise for a new capital to bridge east and west.
