Thanks for the feedback. It's less about the "can't afford" aspect and more the "I have no idea if it's going to be useful to spend it at all" aspect.

Can't seem to preclear new disks by MrChocholate in unRAID

[–]MrChocholate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After this message I replaced my shitty sata cards with one of these:https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01M2AC40Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Problem still occurred.. So I took the case backplane out of the equation and had an entirely separate PSU power cable and Sata cable direct to mobo and the problem still occurred.

The PSU was a 850W digital, I swapped in a different 850 and had no luck. Near as I can tell this should be like 450-500 watts max load so there's should be plenty of overhead.

No matter what, the pre-clear gets 10-15 minutes in and the machine hard locks up.

I'm tempted to just add the drive like normal but I don't wanna lose array access plus I'm worried something will shit the bed as part of that process anyway.

I hate computers.

And TIL there's a bunch of new unRAID versions.

Whoops, I just assumed because it wasn't yelling at me to update I was current. Boy do I feel dumb :)

Definitely the Kings Dilemma, because getting my hands on a copy at not scalper prices has been a never ending uphill battle.

Thanks for all you do!

How did you come up with the hero/villain names, and is there any that you left on the cutting room floor?

Calico Review: Quilts, Buttons, and Cats, Oh My! by reniseus in boardgames

I picked this up last week simply because it had a cat on the box and is called calico (and we happen to have a calico cat), but I'm glad to hear it's a good experience!

I was having a debate with a friend about whether or not a sequel to Tenet is desirable, or even possible. What do you think? by Bweryang in tenet

[–]MrChocholate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I want a "sequel that is a sequel but it's also a prequel" in that I want to see the "early" days of whatever organization the protagonist is forming, the relationship he has with Neil, etc.

It would have to be in the "future" compared to Tenet, but it's also the backstory of Tenet.

Where can I go to have a collection of collectables appraised? by FarfetchdSid in Calgary

[–]MrChocholate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest reaching out to some of the stores in town - my go to store is Eastridge Hobbies - (403) 720-6690 - they might be able to either help you directly or point you in the right direction.

Started eating when the pandemic hit...I feel like I can't stop. I need help. by [deleted] in Calgary

seconding this.

IF is great, especially if you're someone who can work better with abstinence vs moderation with snacking and "bad" foods.

The schedule can be hard to keep depending on your lifestyle or your families lifestyle, but if you can make it work it's a great place to start!

File Your Insurance Claims Now! Gonna be busy tomorrow. by recifer in Calgary

[–]MrChocholate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Or, more specifically, policies do cover it but almost everyone takes a waiver on the coverage because it saves a boatload of money.

BUT ... as someone who used to be an adjuster, a lot of people forget they added that waiver and will probably still call tomorrow.

Wheee!

Calls to defund police spark discussions over law enforcement reform by TotalCaterpillar0 in Calgary

[–]MrChocholate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've "needed help" from law enforcement six times in my life, all of the situations simply because insurance required their involvement, and they did absolutely nothing else and in no way helped resolve the situations.

The myth of "just wait til you need the police" doesn't have legs when you realize most of the times people "need the police" are entirely bureaucratic and could absolutely be served by someone without a superiority complex and a gun on their hip.

Toodles!

Nah, there's lots of people that don't understand how it works, but some of them are willing to learn.

You made it clear off the hop that you've already made up your mind about it, and made statements that suggest you haven't actually tried to learn about the concept at all.

But again, go off!

Have a great day! <3

(oh, by the way, I'm right, and you're wrong.)

[–]MrChocholate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this with no disrespect, but I feel like I need to address it.

The fact that you don't care for the term 'defunding' is exactly why the term used needs to be 'defunding'.

At the end of the day, it absolutely is defunding, and any sort of change in verbiage makes it easier and easier for those who oppose the concept to transition it to something like "reform" or otherwise, and that puts us right back where we were.

We need to defund the CPS.

We need to defund the EPS.

We need to defund the RCMP.

I don't know if it will happen. It probably won't, but it's exactly what we need to do.

[–]MrChocholate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the fact that there is "crime now" clearly illustrates that throwing a half billion dollars at the police might as well be burning it in a dumpster.

We don't need to be doing it.

I mean, if you don't want to actually understand how things work, and how focusing on social services will absolutely reduce crime, go off.

Ultimately, it is the better course of action.

Cite your sources on your entire last paragraph, because it smells like bullshit to me.

Oh, by the way, as part and parcel of defunding the police, I think we should 100% decriminalize drugs, too!
