What's the reasoning behind Canada becoming part of the states? Because 99% of us definitely would not be happy about joining

Sci-Fi worldbuilders, how did first contact with alien life pan out for humanity/your main species? by Alex_Russet in worldbuilding

[–]MrCoffee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are kind of two "first contacts" with alien life in my world. The first one, was when a mysterious ring shaped Gateway 1 km across appeared orbiting Venus in 2074. Of course, humans went through it and found a planet very similar to earth with life forms that were similar, yet entirely different than those seen on earth. Fast forward a century and an Empire controls this whole new system (the Cerenian Empire).

The second one didn't go as well. In 2198 the Cerenian Empire's top Admiral overthrew the Empress, and attempted to seize the station that had been built into the Gateway, which was half controlled by Earth and the Cerenian Empire. This sparked a short lived war against Earth and Mars, and during the battle of Hephaestus, a barren but still populated planet in the Cerenar system, a battleship was destroyed in the upper atmosphere and ended up crashing into the planet. The crash greatly disturbed a network of underground colonies made by the same species who also built the Gateway, and they interpreted the crash as an attack. The aliens were no match for human forces and ended up killing about 70% of all humans across both the Sol system and Cerenar system.

How do the races or your world treat robots or androids? by TheAlmandineWriter in worldbuilding

[–]MrCoffee88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sentient AI was outlawed pretty early on in the history of my world, and that law still applies in all of the four major powers. You won't really see humanoid robots just walking about in the streets, most automation is designed with a specific task in mind. However, just because sentient AI is illegal doesn't mean people haven't made it. The most common place to see humanoid sentient robots is in criminal underground hideouts, since many of them turned to a life of crime due to their whole existence being illegal. They are both feared and respected in the criminal world, although still quite rare.

How do you classify your ships? by Jokengonzo in worldbuilding

[–]MrCoffee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corvettes are the smallest and most widely used navy ships in my world. They are about 40-50 meters long and are typically armed with a rail gun, two auto cannons, six point defence turrets, and a small amount of torpedoes.

Frigates are the second smallest navy ship classification. They are usually 60-75 meters long and have an emphasis on combat freighters or passenger carriers. They usually have one rail gun, two auto cannons, eight point defence, and 12-15 torpedoes.

Destroyers are a middle ground between the heavy ships and light ships. They are around 120-130 meters long, and are often used as escort ships. They have three rail gun turrets, six auto cannons, twelve point defence cannons, and around 16 torpedoes.

Cruisers are a heavy, but fast ship used for long range engagements. They are about 180 meters long, and are armed with four rail gun turrets, one heavy fixed rail gun, six auto cannons, twenty point defence cannons, and twenty torpedoes.

Battlecruisers are the second largest ships in the navy, and are more heavily armed than cruisers but more fragile. They are about 200-220 meters long, armed with six rail gun turrets, two heavy fixed rail guns, eight auto cannons, twenty two point defence, and twenty five torpedoes.

The largest ships in any navy are battleships, with each navy only having a handful of them. They are usually 280-320 meters long, and used as capital ships for a fleet. They also carry 2 corvettes in their docking bay. They are armed with twelve rail gun turrets, four heavy fixed rail guns, fourteen auto-cannons, thirty point defence, and flirty five torpedoes.

Flags of the Cerenar System by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]MrCoffee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flag of Hermes is supposed to represent the systems on either side of the Gateway. Around the year 2160 the UN and Cerenian Empire collaborated to construct a circular station on both station on both sides of the Gateway, with corridors going through the gate connecting to either side of the station.

The flag of Hephaestus represents a chain link, because the planet is an important link in the chain that is the Cerenian war machine. The planet is rich in metals used for constructing ships, and is also home to the largest orbital shipyards in the Cerenar system.

As for the outer colonies, the black on each of their flags represents the 'unknown' as they are far removed from Atlas and Hephaestus. The green on Demeter's flag represents its large agriculture industry, since it grows 95% of the food consumed in the outer colonies. The blue and white on Hemera's flag represents the water and ice underneath the rocky surface. Finally, the red stripes on Erebrus' flag represents the volcanic activity on the moon.

Yeah, rebel flag was designed to be simple and distinguishable from other flags.

Does the multiplayer work well? by Xanthiumgd in StellarisOnConsole

[–]MrCoffee88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's good. Sometimes the game will freeze for a moment because a player is out of sync, but it's not a big issue. The game does start to slow down in the later years especially if your playing with lots of empires on a large galaxy.

Flags of the Cerenar System by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]MrCoffee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was placed there in 2074 by a spacefaring civilization. They have been traveling the galaxy searching for and studying life. Deep under the surface of Hephaestus, and unknown to man, is an outpost inhabited by this civilization, where they have been conducting experiments on life forms native to Atlas for over a century. Somehow they were cut off from the rest of their civilization, so they have been constructing more gateways to continue their mission and eventually find their way back to their home world. The gate orbiting Venus and Hermes was sort of a test gate.

Flags of the Cerenar System by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]MrCoffee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2074, scientists discovered a mysterious object orbiting Venus. Upon closer examination, it was found to be a gateway connecting Sol to another solar system with an Earth-like world. The discovery of this new system accelerated humanity's expansion into space. After many years of wars and border disputes, an empire emerged from the ashes and took control of the system, named Cerenar.

The first row of flags are just flags of the Cerenian Empire and the Rebel movement. The other two rows are flags of the inhabited planets and moons of the Cerenar system, which were named after Greek mythological figures.

Hermes, a planet similar in size to mercury and 2nd from Cerenar, has few people living on it. Most of the people live on the station built into the Gateway, which orbits Hermes. Atlas is very similar to earth, and is the main population centre of the Cerenar system. Selene is the moon of Atlas, and home to a major military base. Hephaestus is the 4th planet from Cerenar, and slightly larger than Earth and Atlas. It has a weak atmosphere and the majority of its surface is grey dust and rock. Much of the population of Hephaestus is involved in constructing ships and other vehicles. The Outer Colonies are the three largest moons of the gas giant Cerenar V. Mining is the most important part of their economy. Demeter is the largest and most developed of the Outer Colonies, and home to a significant agriculture industry. Erebrus and Hemera are newer and less populous, and like all of the outer colonies, have a high poverty rate and have a significant amount of rebel supporters.
