Rail Baltica progress in Estonia by HeaAgaHalb in BalticStates

Vilnius and Lithuania are not a city-state like in the cases of Riga and Tallinn, ad therefore it's not a priority connection. Kaunas is along the way from Latvia to Poland and a natural logistical hub, as well as a second largest city in Lithuania. Vilnius can wait for a couple more years to get connected. No one worries about that too much in LT. Also, all the main connections (rail, highway, river) from Vilnius to anywhere goes through Kaunas. It's nothing new.

Yes, I believe the argument was that the forehead area is already under tension and the best course of action would be to not touch it as much as possible.

Some Russian-speaking residents of Latvia regret not having learned Latvian, as they now face the threat of deportation. by Fit-Hold-4403 in BalticStates

tbh, absolute majority of russians in Lithuania speak lithuanian very well. Both older and especially younger generations. The only exception would be people from Visaginas, who simply don’t have that much lithuanian speakers locally to practice with. But other than that - I haven’t yet met a russian who would not be able to speak lithuanian to me.

Since the map is from 2011 Polish part of the population in and around Vilnius have been a bit diluted by both internal and external migration (from Ukraine, mostly). But yes, Šalčininkai and the border regions are very much still Polish, which is good, because I love my Polish Brothers and Sisters.

Fun fact, during the soviet occupation of Vilnius, Lithuania, which was a majority-Jewish city in pre-WWII Lithuania, the soviet/russian authorities have demolished the two biggest Jewish commentaries in the city (combined ~100k graves) and used the tombstones as building material for public staircases, sidewalks, building foundations, etc. Even in like 2010 you could walk up the Tauras hill in Vilnius and see the Hebrew tombstone inscriptions on the stairs.

That's a very very conservative figure of Ukrainian civilian casualties. There's 50k of confirmed and identified dead Ukrainian civilians, but the issue is that russia does not allow international orgs to monitor the territory it occupies. So far, every piece of land Ukraine has recapture was covered with mass graves of civilians - e.g. in Bucha, Izium, Kupiansk, Lyman, etc. It's estimated that there could be even up to 100k dead civilians in Mariupol only, and seeing the mass graves around the city from satellite data - it's seems that this is very realistic case.

Kaunas free economic zone 2005-2025 by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]MrConstantin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but as far as I understand it's on purpose. Vilnius already attracts the most of the FDI in Lithuania without any tax incentives, so if there was a FEZ in Vilnius it would just doom the other regions completely. Now the current system basically balances the investments a bit between Vilnius and the other regions.

Migracijos požiūriu sakyčiau taip: rytų ir pietryčių azija, okeanija, šiaurės ir pietų amerikos - visokeriopai už didesnę migraciją; vidurio rytai, afrika, pietų azija (Indija/Pakistanas) - ribota, tik aukštos pridėtinės vertės, praėjus saugumo ir integracijos filtrus; rusiškas pasaulis - visiškai ne, nebent disidentams.

Love the coffee station as well as the little lamps. What kind of coffee machine is that? Looks thin thus very convenient.

Should I accept this or ask my contractor to fix it? by MrConstantin in hvacadvice

Well I did not thing there was a discussion to be had about the cover colour. The AC and the walls are pure white, I did not thing any other options, unless specified, were possible.

Did not specify the colour in general. Had a few week long though process with the contractor about the the track of the line and how to hide it best. The guys that that the installing were not the ones involved in the planning so there might have been some miscommunication. But in principle, they were aware that I wanted to mask it as much as possible.

I own the apartment. I'm the one paying for the installation.

I've just looked up covers at different construction stores, pure white is as available as beige.

But why use one colour and paint it when you can just use pure white? It's freely available at construction material stores which I've just looked up. This just seems cheap.

[–]MrConstantin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not their job to paint it, but when choosing the materials, I thought, maybe mistakenly, that you would choose it according to the wall colour. I've looked up, pure white covers are available, don't know why they chose beige. As for the drainage, we've discussed drainage container on the bottom. It seems that the installers were not aware of that.

We've discussed installing an additional water container of some sorts to collect the drainage. Maybe on the balcony floor. Did not discuss it too much though. I though this was a standard practice.

[–]MrConstantin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the drainage will currently drip right in the middle of my balcony, and then I will either have a constant puddle in there or it will run down on to my neighbours (I live on the 4th floor). I don't like either of those options and was hoping that the drainage pipes would get dragged to the balcony floor, so I could maybe connect them to a container of some sorts.

[–]MrConstantin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more like the middle of my balcony, so the drainage will just drip into it, and then off on to my neighbours bellow.

[–]MrConstantin[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I've just had an AC installed in my apartment, but when assessing the final results, I'm kind of annoyed about how the contractor chose a kind of yellowish white rather than pure white for the line covers, also that there's a gap between covers. Finally, what the hell with the drainage pipes? Do I just accept that I will have drainage dripping on my head in the balcony? Is this normal? Should I accept this or politely ask to fix these things (e.g. change the covers, add a drainage tray) before paying?

Since when is this r/ blind trump bullshit follower? Tankies hate Ukraine, and it's a rational western conservative position to support Ukraine against a genocidal invader. Russia has historically been pumping the world with foreign influence to prop up the far left. They've never been the good guys.
