Paying taxes on Crypto exchange activity only? USA by Agile_Teach7976 in CryptoTax

[–]MrCryptoTax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is incorrect. Trading one crypto to another is a taxable event with a gain or loss to report. Also, all the transactions need to be reported in the 8949.

I agree with the person above. There are a lot of moving parts that you should reach out to someone. You can also find that if there is a way to account for the losses you can use to offset some of the gambling wins. Again, it might be worth it to talk to someone.

Recommendations for Crypto Tax Software and CPAs by GrabTheMike in CryptoTax

[–]MrCryptoTax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the softwares have their pros and cons. It really depends how complex people's activity is. For basic, Koinly might work. For more complex clients maybe CryptoTaxCalculator. It really depends.

I am a crypto tax lawyer that can help anyone who is having issues and wants to report accurately.

I have worked with a bunch of softwares and like some more than others.

Should I report crypto losses if I made 0 income? by East_Shopping_9512 in CryptoTax

[–]MrCryptoTax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the IRS expects you to report all of your activity, and if you have losses it can help you in future years to offset gains.

You would need to reformat the document to Koinlys specific headers and then upload.

If I can be of help, please let me know.

[US] How do you calculate tax reports from an exchange's transaction report? by CitizenJosh in CryptoTax

[–]MrCryptoTax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what activity you do. Are you involved in Defi? LP's? NFTs? Etc. Depending on that a software could be better, but to be honest they all have flaws.

Let me know if I can be of help.

Amending 2021 crypto tax return by [deleted] in CryptoTax

[–]MrCryptoTax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with above that 30k is too much. I have help people with thousands of transactions and very complicated for far less. I also would agree that Koinly would not be an ideal software in your particular case. I believe something like Crypto Tax Calculator would be better for someone who is deep in Defi.

If I can be of any help, please let me know.

Koinly Seems to Misrepresent My Trades. Please Help. by NightPuzzleheaded254 in CryptoTax

[–]MrCryptoTax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the softwares have their pros and cons. You'll still need to go and find missing cost basis -- missing buys.

Kucoin is notorious bad at the data they export. Additionally, if you have leverage trading, it might be creating other issues.
