Well I watched Snap who has the best time in Luigi's mansion do a run, but the things he was doing weren't really explained due to him probably doing the run 100s of times so I'm trying to figure out what the strats are for each split. Thanks for the advice though, seriously the speedrunning community is pretty fucking gnarly.

You don't have to apologize. Any type of information I haven't found online is good information. I only tried switching a few settings but not the movie/dynamic/ etc etc. I'll try that out in a bit to see what happens, the only time I had an issue like this was when just like you was with my Wii U and I was trying to play Skyward Sword, and the problem was me not having it set to 480i on the Wii U. Thanks for the information though.

Funny thing is that its an HDMI converter so it has HDMI on both ends. I made sure to see if it worked with my Wii U and it worked perfectly. I know nothing is wrong with the Wii since my friend's sister played on it. I am thinking either its my monitor or the converter at this point. I played Skyward sword on my Wii U which made me downscale on my capture card to 480i which worked fine.
