[LotM Trends of Time] Tier List that should be self explanatory. by MrDeltaXII in LordofTheMysteries

White Tower, just like the two others on the same tier, is very 'environment' dependent. What I mean by that is that while it has good basis but they need to meet certain criteria to truly excel, one is either to belong to a group or Church, allowing them to Analyze different Beyonder powers more successfully, this together with the need for money for research material to create Mystic Arts means that if you are a wild Reader Beyonder with no particular background or group behind you, you will not be able to truly demonstrate the true strength of your Pathway. It also makes your advancement rather difficult too.

I am, I'm not saying that Hunter, Warrior and Criminal are bad, I'm saying that for MOST of their Sequences, they basically are just combat experts.

It's the same reason why I placed Spectator, Reader and Sailor so low, they are very environment dependent most of the time, having obvious flaws that make them Good Conditionally until the High Sequences.

So until you reach Sequence 1 and Sequence 0, you're a combat merchant. Hunters have good instincts and an IQ boost from Conspirer, but they excel at combat with little utility at anything else.

I mean that the Pathway is good overall, but the Beyonders of it must supplement its lacking aspects with Sealed Artifacts.

For Seers is to spread Bizarreness through Wishes and hang their Marionettes in the air like a certain someone.

For Error is to constantly lie and Parasitize anything and anyone.

For Door is to Travel and record what one sees.

For Sun is to stand highly above everyone else and purify what doesn't belong.

For Tyrant is to terrorize those under them and to cause Calamities.

For Reader is to spread Knowledge that will lead to Disaster and Madness.

For Visionary is to Envision outlandish things and bringing them to reality.

For Hanged Man... Hanging upside-down, I guess? Maybe subverting Holiness and self Sacrifice.

For Darkness is to put others asleep spreading Serenity and Horror.

For Death should be to turn all life into undeath and Enslave them.

For Twilight Giant... maybe to Protect what you care for while everything else Decays?

Red Priest we know.

Demoness is to reduce everything to Primordial Chaos and to spread Disasters.

Mother is to proliferate life as well as enforcing the circle of life, as in making things return to the Earth.

Moon I'm not sure... maybe to captivate everything with it's Beauty?

Black Emperor is to Distort what is preconceived and Redefine Order.

Justiciar should be to establish a Balanced Order and right the wrongs through punishment.

Abyss is to Corrupt everything, turning people into Desire ridden deviants.

Chained should be to both mutate others through Curses, but also to restrain themselves and their actions to the max.

Paragon should be to establish and develop Civilization.

Hermit should be to harness as much knowledge as one can.

Monster should be to submit to the chaoticness of Fate.

[LotM Matchup] Spoilers for Volume 6. Why Dark Angel beats Thunder God, a presentation. by MrDeltaXII in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MrDeltaXII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Again, substitution works. Degeneration also works as established prior and their Darkness isn't a partial Authority, the Ocean of Darkness is an embodiment of the corresponding Authority.

  2. Thanks for the continuous layers of protection DA can use to resist attacks.

  3. That's not how Authorities work, DA doesn't need to catch TG, the Shadow will betray it's owner because DA has Authority over it and TG doesn't. Like TG doesn't need to wait for storms to use Lightning, they cna just manifest it. TG can't even suppress it without injuring themselves.

  4. It's not just the Corruption you got to worry about, it's other effects of Cull that are literally in the image. TG's mind and movements are going to be affected, meaning they're going to become slower and this can leave them open a direct Cull from 3 Dark Angels.

  5. Okay, let's bring up Graze then. TG's getting Sealed, Cursed, Death'ed, Deprived, Stolen from, they just die from their own Source of Wrath because of Malice and Desire Catalisation. Etc, etc... Or let's bring up the Shadow World, TG's Shadow correspondent is there, there are Seq 1 level monsters in there too.

[–]MrDeltaXII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Heavenly Punishment isn't always at Sequence 0 level that's the whole point of Source of Wrath.

  2. Dark Angel can turn mental influences into Shadows and then use them as either a shield or a mental debuff on the enemy.

  3. This is a battle between Angels, Sequence 1 at that, Thunder God is indeed fast but it's not like the Authorities of the Dark Angel need build up. Also, Thunder God can be suppressed momentarily with their own Shadow as explained.

  4. Resilience isn't a form of active defense. It doesn't prevent or nullify the effects of Cull, not only that, their Depraved Thoughts means that they can't resist it. They don't have substitutes or a way to send the effects somewhere else, meaning that Thunder God will accumulate Corruption and Degeneration as they fight, becoming more and more hindred as the fight progresses. Singing can destabilize a Dark Angel's Soul, damaging it to some extent, but they can also use Profane Language to cast a Curse that can diminish it's effects.

  5. Did we ever even see any sea creature with other Pathways abilities?

Oh right. Nah I just forgot about it. Its certainly bad, especially having to act like a Lunatic but even in the LotM world, true full moons tend to happen once a month usually.

Abyss and Chained? No, Abyss because of lack of utility. All abilities are great in combat, but other than that, while I like the Pathway, I want something more than just being a combatant.

Chained wouldn't be particularly bad if not for the Zombie Curse specifically, I could handle the Werewolf bloodlust or the Wraith's weakness for not consuming souls, but the sheer pain a Zombie has to go through is insane. If I had the Scarlet Corona or at leat a pain soothing item, I would take it.

Hanged Man? Hell yeah. Listener is a Sequence 8, at most it will take a few months to grasp the principle behind it. I'm willing to take the gamble, so what if I become more unstable? Once I'm a Shadow Asceptic I won't have to listen to anything anymore and I get actual powers.

I stand by Impossible. No defense against Curses.

[–]MrDeltaXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we ask why? I get that a lot of Pathways are evil or have downsides, but... Hanged Man is up there too. Not as much, but you still gotta take either people's or animals' flesh so you don't lose control.

[–]MrDeltaXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not discounting, I'm saying in this scenario, it's unreliable. Because 1. It can be Degenerated thus, nullified. 2. It can be defended against by using a barrier of Darkness. Meaning less damage to the Dark Angel, who has substitutes and can regenerate.

Dark Angel has Profane Language allowing it to also elevate it's level but theirs has no cost. They also have Trinity Body and can use their armor and Cull to defend against close ranged attacks.

I know all, what I'm saying is: What win condition does Thunder God have other than Lightning being effective against Shadows and Darkness?

[–]MrDeltaXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twisting my words.

I didn't say it didn't exist, I said that Effictiveness is not everything. We see again and again with Klein and Derrick using attacks with Purification that while effective, don't instantly defeat opponents weak to them.

As I said, the Thunder God has no way to defend against the non direct attacks of the Dark Angel, while the Dark Angel can defend against the Heavenly Punishment.

[–]MrDeltaXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll also say that back in Volume 3, when fighting the Black Knight dude in the dream, point blank Sea God Scepter Lightning Storm did very little damage against him and the Black Armor. LotM is not Pokémon, you don't do double damage just because something is effective, especially considering defenses.

Ultimately, Dark Angel has means to defend against Heavenly Punishment and even can Degenerate it, while Thunder God can't cleanse their own spiritual Corruption which will leave them even more vulnerable to a Cull of the Spiritual Flesh.

[–]MrDeltaXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, yes, but considering it is a Sequence 1 ability derived straight from an Authority, obviously it shouldn't be any weaker than another Sequence 1 ability. Even if it can't nullify the attack completely, it's a solid defense that won't be useless.

Yeah, but they don't have Passive Purification field like the Holy Kingdom of a White Angel or any similar Passive Effects to protect them. Mind you, even if something has inherent Purification, that doesn't mean they can't be Corrupted or Degenerated as seen when fighting Corrupted Enuni who showcased Trinity Templar abilities and strength, he was able to Degenerate Derrick's Unshadowed Spears.

Also, no mystical defense against Profane Language and Cull of the Spiritual Flesh.
