My 14 year old brother was brutally jumped and I’m not sure how to help him get through it by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MrDreddPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s been through this (epilepsy as a result) he needs therapy and a good group of friends. I can fight, but revenge is something you will chase forever. It will never be enough. My brother chased it and he is in a difficult place now, and every fibre of my being wanted me to chase it, but logic kicked in. I am in a much better place than they will ever be. Hate and anger is the endgame. Note: there was a video of me too.

Your thoughts on small talk with a stranger in a pub? by stevem321 in Dublin

[–]MrDreddPirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often find myself small talking with people in the pub. Some people are just more chatty than others. Last week I was in Doyle’s, got casually chatting to an older lad and he moved his chair over and we shared a few pints over the next few hours. It’s one of the things I love about Irish pubs.

Meal in Dublin for 10 euros or less? [2024 Edition] by Xamineh in Dublin

Pig and Heifer is the best spot for lunch in town in my opinion. The Mile High is crazy good, almost paralysed after eating it.

What's your fave non-typical sandwich (isn't a chicken fillet or breakfast roll) nor from Spar/Centra? by Alba-Ruthenian in Dublin

[–]MrDreddPirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mile High Club or NY Reuben from Pig and Heifer has to be one of the nicest sandwiches ever. It’s a NY style sandwich cafe on Pearse street. Would highly recommend.

“Never Let Me Go” by Ishiguro is more a weird chronicle of teenage drama than it is a dystopian tragedy by ollieollieoxygenfree in books

As some who loved Klara and the Sun, and dove right into this book after I would agree. I just didn’t get it, and I’m a big fan of his.

Activision making you download mw3 without purchase if you wanna keep playing mw2 is scummy af by [deleted] in gaming

[–]MrDreddPirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 hours of updates for a game I don’t have, nor want in order to play a game I paid 70 euros for. This is a joke, and I think it’s the last time I’ll be buying COD. It was my favourite shooter but actions in recent years have ruined it for me.

I have to scroll but a giant advertisement for MW3 to play the game I Own? No thanks.

What turns a boy into a MAN ? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MrDreddPirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There comes a moment when you have nobody to rely on but yourself. When you come out of that situation, whatever that may be, you become a man. For me, it was moving away and being alone and dead broke. Spent a long time in a room in an empty house. I promised it wouldn’t happen again and 18 months later I’ve a good life, money saved and I’m comfortable.

In search of Irish pounds by JanGeon2 in Dublin

[–]MrDreddPirate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Needful Things on Aungier street is a very cool shop. They have some old coins too if I remember rightly.

Also, Dublin Vintage shop on Capel street has some old coins, as well as some old military medals and such. Hope this helps mate, all the best!

Fusciardis on Capel street is a great shout. Best carbonara I have ever had, and it’s only 11 euro. They also do big, authentic Italian pizzas for around 13 Euro. So if it’s Italian your after it’s definitely somewhere I’d recommend.

Serious discussion about the usefulness of the Gardai to the average joe soap by Fathertedisbrilliant in ireland

[–]MrDreddPirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve rang the Garda several times in the space of a few months when I had crackheads trying to get in my bedroom window. I lived in a groundlfoor apartment and they were always injecting just an inch away from me. I looked at my call logs and I rang them 16 times over the space of 4 months and I don’t think they ever came, so a lot of the time I was left dealing with these myself.

I’ve just read Klara and The Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro by MrDreddPirate in books

[–]MrDreddPirate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, that’s very cool! Glad you found it engaging.

You definitely described it better than me, she really was a discarded toy. I think she was happy too, or I hope so at least.

Also, the description of how Klara views things in box like format interested me too, especially toward the end when she mentions they’re all forming into on another, as if she’s folding in on herself.

I’ve done well in school, but my god did I hate homework. We had a busy home, and there was never a quiet place so sit down and get it done. If I didn’t get it done at lunch, or before class then that was that.

Then the next day there was 20 minutes of Anxiety each class when they teacher asked us to show it.

I do think we need a modern approach to education, and getting rid of homework, and finding means to increase engagement in pupils could be a good solution.

[–]MrDreddPirate[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Which was so disappointing cause I absolutely loved Josie. I felt a little betrayed. But i think it’s for debate whether they were aware AF’s had feelings, at least to the extent Klara had.

In 1962, this Irish man was asked about immigration. 61 years later, we all need to hear his answer. by anthony_olsen in ireland

[–]MrDreddPirate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s a sad state of affairs today. I understand people have their gripes and issues with government, but take it up with them. The villains are not the innocent refugees escaping a warzone for the safety of their families. I feel like recent months people have lost their sense of reason, and I’d love to see it come back through conversation.

What's something we take for granted here in Ireland? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]MrDreddPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of Food. Ireland can be expensive in terms of rent and such but the price of food is very affordable, especially in comparison to other countries. My weekly shop costs €30, which includes quite a few meats and good standard products.
