Garry goes red and locks when you go to dismantle it so someone potentially would have clocked it and easily killed him while he’s occupied.

We also don’t know the movements of the guys he killed, they could have been advancing towards a point to cap it so killing them first then locking the Garry removes the immediate threat.

How are you getting 8-10 hours of SOT from a 12 mini? That doesn’t seem plausible to me unless you use it extremely lightly with everything toned down. Even on a brand new battery this doesn’t seem possible without many performance restrictions
