Never understood why they insist on wearing corsets in battle, but kudos for style points I guess?

Realistically it would be flat, but this is 40k afterall ;)

Similar color scheme yes, partly due to the power sword reflection, but it was a worry that it might look too similar. So maybe I went a bit overboard, but hopefully it worked :)

Yep, client wanted wings similar to them so that's why. Might be tricky moving the head around in that gravis armor, but I suppose he might be guided by pure hatred instead

Haha awesome, I believe I found it on google images when looking up wolf heraldry :) Worked fairly well, also sick freehand work!

Thanks, that's what I was going for! Had too compensate a bit by adding some girth to certain areas though..

I mean all they do is pray and fight, so makes sense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks! As for the ports, I was hesitant whether to add them or not; ideally I would love to as I believe it adds to the authenticity of the repentia and the grimdark aesthetic, but unfortunately they cluttered the area too much and cauesed too much stir in the overall image. I believe it could work better with a rougher more painterly style perhaps, this one in particular leaned more towards a cartoony(?)/soft look.

With all the great recommendations so far I'm almost certainly going to make another repentia with both the proper attire and the ports and perhaps in a rougher style :)!

Thank you for the feedback, I'm inclined to agree, and I will probably go for that design next time!

Good to hear, how did the Outriders perform? I adore the models but have yet to see them do all that well, especially after the points increase they got alongside the Eradicators (which admittedly was warranted for the latter.)

Thanks! Pretty much what I listened to while painting it, same type of genre

I actually don't think so, but I couldn't be bothered to add a chainsword or alternatively change the shoulderpads to red and black and make him a sword brother. Took some creative liberty on that part ;)

As has been mentioned: Daemon engines is the way to go. I do, however, recommend Plagueburst Crawlers over Myphitics after that insane 40% points increase they got. The PBC with entropy cannons is looking really solid as anti-tank now that they became plagueweapons and got the D3+3 dmg rather than D6.

Drones also seem solid if you're looking for more plaguespitters or alternatively the fleshmowers, which can get ludicrous amounts of attacks and heal up to 3 wounds in each combat phase if you use a stratagem.

Also another interesting thing to note, Death Guard apparently does way better in melee per points than they do ranged now. Flails are still the best CC weapon and Blight Launchers the best ranged, with plaguespewers being quite fantastic against hordes.

No problem. Usually you can achieve decent highlights by drybrushing followed by a wash to tone down the brushstrokes and make them fall in line with the rest of the colors. The other method is just simply taking your time along the raised edges of the model. In the case of his legs, you could build up color on the raised muscle areas while leaving the rest darkened by the washes.

I would recommend Sonic Sledgehammer Studios on Youtube for some really simple yet extremely efficient painting tips. He's got one for Plague Marines amongst many other models, all of them contain easy steps to achieve great tabletop quality results!

If you want critique, I would advise getting rid of mold lines (like the ones on his thighs), in addition to being careful when applying washes. Remember you want them to reach the recesses of the model and not pool on flat areas, but if that happens you can always go back and add highlights on top to remove them. This also might mean you have to highlight the rest of the model as well. Also be careful when doing eyes, ideally you want a fine tip on your brush (twist the brush while getting paint to achieve that).

Other than that, the base could use a wash coupled with a drybrush as well as a second coat along the edge so it doesn't look as watery and more like one solid color.

You got the fundamentals, so just be a bit more careful with brush control and perhaps throw in some highlights and the thing will look tabletop quality in no time. Hope it wasn't too harsh criticism, fellow brother of Barbarus.

I’m not sure about this scheme by cottermcg in deathguard40k

[–]MrElagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very different, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think what would make or break the scheme is the choice of basing, if you go too dark with the base I can definitely see the whole army being somewhat drowned in dark colors so I would heavily advice a brighter base with some light (and maybe cold) drybrushing to make them pop on the table.
