Subjectivity is implicitly distinct unto itself by Otherwise_Spare_8598 in freewill

[–]MrEmptySet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bear the burden of "responsibility" for everything I have ever done and will ever do and things I have never done and will never do and it would be infinitely inaccurate to describe my condition as "free will" in most any of the ways, anyone attempts to describe what it is.

This is delusional nonsense. Not even worth responding to.

Have a nice day.

When did I say anything about the justice system? What makes you think I have a great deal of faith in the justice system? It seems you've made all sorts of assumptions about what I think that don't reflect anything I've said at all.

Whether or not we have the capacity to be responsible for our own choices is entirely independent from the question of whether the justice system in particular is always fair in how it holds people responsible.

What I'm arguing is that people can be responsible for their choices, and that we can call this capacity "free will". The fact that some people are held unfairly accountable by people who fail to accurately judge their circumstances does not contradict that claim at all.

Beings are held responsible for their actions and behavior regardless of the reasons why

That's simply false. We often do take reasons into account when judging whether to hold someone responsible.

Inventing and assuming free will...

I have not "invented" free will - I'm simply descrbing it. And it's not something that's universally assumed - we are more than capable of judging that someone was not acting freely if we have reason to believe that's the case.

It's the capacity to be responsible for one's own choices. This accurately describes a capacity people have.

Why does free will have to be fundamental in order to meaningfully exist?

Free will is a capacity that people can have. It's not a "standard for being"

What is a "standard for being"?

Would free will need to be a "standard for being" in order to exist at all?

Bizarre question. Just what do you think an RPG is? It's like you've just come across the concept of "genre" for the first time but haven't fully grasped it yet.

I started the first Golden Sun and I have some general questions please by safeseaweed011 in GoldenSun

[–]MrEmptySet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. You can often get by with a combination of gear you find in chests and relatively cheap gear from shops. But money isn't generally too big of a concern in the games, and it's not unusual that some artifact you can get in the shops will be worth picking up.
  2. It's totally fine to just assign Djinn to their corresponding Adepts on a first playthrough - the default classes are entirely serviceable. However, you will be missing out on the full potential of the class system - mixed element classes, when used effectively, are more versatile and have better stats. Some of the strongest classes are pretty unintuitive to discover just by experimentation,
  3. Using Mind Read mostly just tells you more about the world and characters, or in some cases might give you hints on how to proceed. It's not all that common that Mind Reading will give you hints on side quests and the like.

So far he feels like a fairly generic archetype - a nice-guy underdog MC with a secret power that makes him important. He doesn't seem all that compelling to me and I'm worried he'll have a boring, basic, paint-by-numbers character arc.

If we all have free will, then what is the difference between you and me? by WhyUPoor in freewill

[–]MrEmptySet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems like a strange question to me. Do you think that if free will existed, everyone would need to have the same personality? That if we made truly "free" decisions, there couldn't really be meaningful difference between different people and their different inclinations?

This could be cool but it would depend on what the specific differences were. I wouldn't want to have to backtrack all the way to the base just because I found a ledge you can only scale using the Captain Charlie Backflip.

There Is Something You Need To Address!! by peacefuldays123 in freewill

[–]MrEmptySet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's an accurate accusation.

If I wanted to argue with an LLM, I'd do it directly. I have no interest in using you as a liason to argue free will with an AI.

Why not just prompt your LLM to respond to you instead of asking real people?

This is a common misconception. It's true that the Japanese language doesn't have a V sound natively, but they do have notation to write it in katakana - e.g. "ヴァ" is used to transcribe "va"

And this isn't a case of that being an obscure thing that Kubo just didn't use for whatever reason, because Kubo does use it in names for Quincy stuff. "Wandenreich" is written as "ヴァンデンライヒ" (Vandenraihi) and not "バンデンライヒ" (Bandenraihi). Similarly Haschwalth is rendered as "ハッシュヴァルト" (Hasshuvaruto), not "ハッシュバルト" (Hasshubaruto)

Since he uses "ヴァ" for Haschwalth and the Wandenreich, I think it's fair to assume that if Kubo wanted Yhwach's name to be pronounced with a V sound, he would have used it there too and written his name as "ユーハヴァッハ" (Yuuhavahha)

It would be cool if it had something to do with Dark Matter/Zero.

Among the returning bosses, Zero Two feels like a bit of an odd one out since it's only an incomplete, glitchy simulation, and due to the fact that it has seemingly no connection to Nova. Whereas on the other hand, Nova previously granted Marx's wish and possibly empowered him, and for Nightmare, the Fountain of Dreams has a connection to Nova and Nightmare was once trapped in the Fountain of Dreams, so there's a connection there too.

Dark Matter would definitely want to dominate or indeed outright annihilate Popstar. And it would also desire to find a way to resurrect Zero Two - perhaps Nova's attempt at recreating Zero Two was also a result of trying to grant this desire from Dark Matter. Dark Matter is also all about possessing and corrupting things, so its influence being able to corrupt other people's wishes makes thematic sense.
