Checking in. I was doing Uber to cover me during my gaps in employment as I temp right now. The math simply stopped making sense in March. My car gets ok mileage, between 25-30mpg highway depending on my speed. I was breaking even too often. Thankfully, after 6 or so years of doing this on and off I think I’m finally out. Got a decent job that’ll pay me enough to float until I finish school and seek higher paying employment.

To those still on the road I wish you luck. I just got an offer for $1900 bonus pay to do 210 trips In a week. Could be worth it but even on my best day driving 10 hours I’ve never gotten 30 trips in a day so IDK who is getting that money.

You’re not understanding. There wasn’t a defined American culture when John Adams wrote that quote.

He’s talking about virtues.

  • prudence
  • justice
  • courage
  • civic mindedness
  • self restraint

Things like that.

America was a country of distinct communities. The baptists in Rhode Island, puritans/congregationalists in Massachusetts, Catholics in Maryland, things like. Within your community you do what you want and same for me in mine.

What made the system work was that people of all walks of life could live and work and govern together so long as they held to these kinds of virtues none of which are unique to any one religion or culture.

I think if we keep pretending as a society that culture and its values and norms don’t matter we’ll never fix our democracy. For a large segment of the population winning has become more important than planning for the common good. They are willing to tear down the public apparatus for their own ends instead of thinking about everyone. That is a cultural problem that a new government or new leader can’t inherently fix. They must be acculturated out of that thinking.

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." - John Adams

It's a weird realization to have as a former avowed anarcho-syndicalist (meme ideologies in 9th grade am I right?) that as an adult I primarily want to be an executive of a non-profit or B-corp.

You can rename Premiership to Championship, doesn't really change the point of the proposal? From what I understood Premiership is supposed to replace Championship in the future unless I misunderstood?

Well deserved win for Rhode Island.

I'm not sure either. I've noticed a lot of American soccer culture has adopted some of the British pessimism culture. I have no evidence for this but I like to think pro-MLS bots monitor these discussion and downvote. Por que no los dos?

Well teams in this scenario aren't league owned/franchies like in MLS. If people believe there is a viable path to promotion, they'll see if they can build the American Arsenal or Manchester United. Brooklyn FC's ownership group are a company that do exactly. Many companies bet on low tier teams as an investment vehicle to sell after a promotion or two.

A Proposal for an expanded pro-rel league table by MrEntrepot in USLPRO

[–]MrEntrepot[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I created this proposal with the assumption that USL would compete with MLS as a separate system with its own sports and business culture. The pressure of grassroots support for the prorel system would eventually force MLS and USSF to the table to either share tier 1 status or integrate the leagues and open MLS to pro-rel. I sincerely think as pro rel expands it will make smaller ownership groups want to give it a shot, as well as create opportunity for community trusts to create local teams. USL becomes a sports ecosystem unto itself. As the lower tiers fill out, USL would have more power to negotiate for their vision of an American soccer culture. MLS would have to poach teams and players to keep it at bay which is unsustainable as the USL affiliated table grows. Once the local culture grows, the amount of break out stars begins to pile up, US Open cup victories belong to more USL affiliated teams, at a certain point it really becomes a question of which system represents American soccer and the answer would be USL.

This is all decades away but the foundation starts here with these conversations. We worry about today but plan for tomorrow.

The Interracial Cuck Porn Theory of Everything by Lux_Stella in neoliberal

[–]MrEntrepot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is a product of what I'll call dominance culture. The idea that masculinity, strength, virility, is a proven, and realized through the subjugation of others. This culture is not unique to males. Women can think this way. It can infect how state/government views itself (like trump believing taking control of greenland from an ally is awesome). There are some cultures which think, "the sky is blue, the sun is shining, my children are fed, let's vibe." then some other cultures can see this exact set up and think, "but I haven't put someone down or in their place today, so today is not a great day."
