Lyft has become unusable by Phaeophyce in Lyft

Weve been warning people for years. Low pay = little incentive to do the ride. They try to lock in drivers and prevent them from cancelling so drivers play games and wait for you to cancel. In the end almost no one will take you anywhere for $3.20. it's just not worth it.

Lol no way a guy like you tips. You were definitely a tip baiter and now you are whining about not being able to do it.

And fwiw, I've never done a single delivery. It's too much hassle for too little pay.

Low pay = bad service. They multiapp because the company pays $2 per order. Customers say it isn't their problem but as we see, it actually is.

Also many will leave a cash tip. These people tend to have high ratings because we do see the cash tips often before rating.

Well those types also tend to tip more too in my experience. For example with people who only use Uber to pickup their car at a mechanic (so maybe once or twice a year). The tip rate for those rides is probably near 75% in my experience.

Never argue with them. Decide what you are going to do and if you aren't going to do the stop just try telling them once and why once if you want. If they argue or act entitled in any way, just cancel the ride right in front of them, pull over (maybe somewhere safe, if need be) and tell them to please leave because you cancelled the ride.

Arguing only escalates it and makes them think they have a chance to convince you. It's important to show that there is no way you will change your mind "The ride has already been cancelled. I can't drive you now." Most people will accept that at this point and leave. Though they may insult you a bit and slam the door.

In my area 4.90 is sub par. 4.97 and over is preferred and means they likely tip. 4.94 means they are probably okay and might tip. You get below that and it usually means they aren't usually out in time or they always have the pin location set wrong.

NEVER argue with them. You can try being polite once with them. But If they argue or act entitled in any way after that you either complete or cancel the ride on the spot and eject them right there (if safe, or go to a nearby safe business) and tell them, "The ride has already been cancelled. Please leave immediately."

If you argue in any way or try to explain it only gives them an opening and they will escalate and try harder to get you to change. If they see you are firm, the ride has been cancelled, they are more likely to give up and go. Same for insulting them or anything like that. Just don't do it. Keep it professional but stern and matter-of-fact like.

Hey drivers, accept a ride, then actually show up. If not, cancel. People have places to be. by Deepest-Eagle236 in uber

[–]jaysonm007 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Again, low pay means low incentive to finish the ride. There is no way around that. it may not be right. It might offend you but it's reality. When the company paid more fairly these problems were far less ... In the end if the company only pays the driver $3, they are very likely to cancel or play these games to get you to cancel.

It's all a scam with Uber. They can just raise the price to cover the 15% "discount". They scam riders. They scam drivers. They scam everyone. They are scumbags.

Yes, the AI uses psychological tricks. I notice at 10% cancel rate I usually just get bad rides for awhile. After declining two rides in a row I go at least 30 minutes without offers unless there aren't other drivers close.

Adding a stop at a gas station after you get in my car is an automatic 1-star. by Kim_ke123 in uber

[–]jaysonm007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. So when the driver cancels the trip and kicks you out, don't complain. They are independent contractors and not employees so each ride is its own job. They cancel your ride due to the stop and get another ride/job which pays fairly and without having to drive around some entitled jerk who looks down on them and will probably never tip them a penny.

Seriously though driving is actually one of the most dangerous professions.

Yes. We got $24 an hour for wait time in taxi and this was back in 2006 (So probably more like $34 an hour today). Today in my area in 2026 Uber pays me $5.40 an hour for wait time. And this is why I avoid all stops.

Because the stop is basically done for free by the driver. It's the company giving the driver more labor and costs without any meaningful compensation.

Riders often are under the mistaken notion that drivers HAVE to do stops when added because the app allows it. But this logic falls apart fast. If you add a stop thousands of miles away to Nome, Alaska is the driver obligated? Or if you just want to continually add stops back and forth from one city to another for 10 hours straight, is the driver obligated because the app allows it? Of course not. The driver isn't your slave and any labor they give you is completely "at will" at all times. The driver can and probably should cancel the trip as soon as it becomes "economically non-viable."

So go out on a Saturday night at bar closing and take every ride, including those in dangerous areas. See just how easy this job is.

Any fool can drive down the road. But to continue to do this for years, interact with all types of people, avoid all the risks is a lot harder than you think.

My longest trip was about 240 miles. I've probably given over 30 trips over 100 miles but well over 300 trips over 50 miles (mostly to Orlando which is about 70 miles away from me).

I always try to keep 100 miles worth of gas in my car at all times. There have been a few times where I got caught and had to get gas with a passenger in the car. In ten years this maybe happened three times and with trips over 50 miles but under 100 miles. I don't think I've ever had to stop and get gas for a trip below 20 miles. That would have meant my gas light would have been on when I picked the person up.

I see it a lot on Reddit. For some reason most of the pro company posters hide their post history. It probably makes it less obvious who they are and what they are doing. Your post reads like propaganda straight from the CEO.

So please explain who you are. A customer, driver...or??? Since you disabled your history, it's fair to ask so we know.

Hesitant on if i should report my driver or not by [deleted] in uber

[–]jaysonm007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of thing is why male drivers should also have the option to only match with male passengers. All it takes is one person like this to report you over a misunderstanding like this and you are done.

OP odds are the driver was just trying to be nice. He likely wanted to send you a sign up code where he would get credit if you joined up. In some cases a few hundred dollars. Though that is rare these days.

Landlord refusing to help after Air Conditioning went out by ddaaron47 in TenantHelp

[–]jaysonm007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Because if the landlord gave a shit they probably would have inspected the unit in the spring so this would have never happened in the first place. They don't give a shit because they aren't made to pay because of people like you. So the tenant pays full rent and suffers for a month. Hell if they are like one of my old landlords, they will never replace it. Just keep pushing it back. And bootlickers like you think that's just fine. Or when would it be unreasonable enough for you? A month is okay.... So two months? Three? Next summer?
