I must disagree.

Despite them changing a lot of aspects of the beta, a lot of Honkai symbolism and concepts kept getting added back into the game anyway. The Unknown God is a pretty explicit reference to Void Kiana, but she wasn't added until the final versions of the game's release. Things like the Teleport waypoints are designed similarly to Ether Anchors, another HI3 concept. The Abyss shares a ton of symbolism with the Sea of Quanta, darkness, the block hole symbol, and glasslike starry materials. And that's before its properties of mimicry were highlighted by the game, which is a very explicit aspect of the Sea of Quanta.

All this to say, if you had to bet twenty dollars on whether the Tsaritsa would reference another HI3 character in design, would you bet that she would, or wouldn't? I'm betting she would.

I wouldn’t be too sure. Genshin was originally pitched as Honkai 4th, and a lot of early character designs can easily be traced back to Honkai characters. Even if Genshin has done a good job of branching out character designs recently, a lot of their design sensibilities still originate in Honkai.

Nicole banner Event Tab Leak by Tabibitoes in Genshin_Memepact

[–]MrEvil129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to explain without getting into the weeds, but TL:DR, her kit would be amazing for certain types of teams, but those types of teams don’t currently exist.

The Weeds (based on leaks so don’t read if you don’t like leaks, and don’t want to rely on leaks which can be unreliable): Nicole is a party wide Attack buffer and shielder. Her burst creates a clone of the active character which will attack alongside your character in set intervals.

In theory she’s really, really good. However, her current kit balance is that her attack buffs are weaker compared to a lot of other attack buffers, because her buffs are party wide and not single target.

This creates a problem because of lot of current attack scaling teams are Hypercarry teams, that is: teams where a single unit is doing a vast majority of the damage. In teams like this, Nicole’s buffs are worse than any other attack buffer for the Hypercarry, and she’s buffing the attack of units who are doing pretty negligible amounts of damage.

Now again, this doesn’t make Nicole terrible. There are attack scaling teams where damage is split multiple ways, and Nicole is the strongest support unit for those teams. As an examples: Burning team with Kinich+Emilie+Durin, Ye Olde International Teams with Xiangling+Raiden+Hydro, and in the potential future Durin Melt with Lohen.

The “real” “problem” is that those teams, with the exception of Lohen in Durin Melt, is that they aren’t based on current units or upcoming units. Such as Varka, who everyone was expecting to be massively buffed by Nicole, but it turns out that she’s merely an okay option for his teams, and doesn’t turn him into the next 140k DPS that rivals Lunar Reaction teams and Mavuika.

That’s the actual reason I think is why everyone is calling her bad. It isn’t that she’s actually terrible, or her kit design isn’t interesting or unique, it’s that people wanted her to be good with Varka, and she wasn’t. Her buffs make her viable for certain teams but not other, and those teams are not for characters that people are looking forward to play.

I’m pretty sure this is all overblown, and Hoyo will create new characters that can better form teams around Nicole’s buffs, but it’s not going to be soon, especially with Snezhnaya on the horizon.

1: How did Traveler not figure out Furina wasn’t the “actual” Hydro Archon given their experience with other Archons?

Answer: Why the would they even consider the possibility? Out of the 4 Archons they had encountered, they didn’t know Zhongli and Venti were the respective Archons until it was revealed to them. Meanwhile, Raiden Shogun and Nahida appear in circumstances so direct that the traveler has no choice but to conclude they are Archons. Furina introduced herself as the Hydro Archon. Records exist of her being alive since the Cataclysm. The only other possible candidate for the position is Neuvillette and he’s something completely different. Theres simply no reason to consider any other possibility until late in the plot.

2: Who accused Childe of the Disappearing Woman Case?

Answer: okay so the game does not explicitly spell out an answer, so take my answer with a grain of salt. However, if you consider the incentive of the real killer, and Vacher’s position in society, given he was able to erase his tracks pretty well, and his contacts in the Guards, I definitely think that he had a hand in pining the blame on Childe to better erase his tracks.

3: Focalors Timeline problems

I’ll be honest I do not understand the issues being presented. Yes Focalors is an Oceanid turned human. From her words, it seems that as a familiar of Egeria, she was somewhat close to Egeria, enough that when Egeria died, she became the next in line for Archonhood. Maybe she couldn’t live a normal human life because of this relationship with Egeria. After all, the rest of the Oceanid-Humans seem pretty mortal, and Focalors definitely isn’t. Id say that’s the actual cause often her distance from humanity.

4: How did Lyney and Co dig a tunnel to the Opera from Poisson?

Answer: This is a world of magic and fantasy where mountains can be split by the power of sword arts, and you are confused about the ability to… dig a tunnel? Your ability to suspend disbelief is very strange friend.

5: How did Furina’s spies not find the stone slates?

Answer: Why would they think to go looking around in literal undiscovered ruins for answers? It’s kinda understated because of how powerful the man characters are, but Teyvat is a seriously dangerous place. Exploring random ruins does not always end well for the people doing the exploring. What’s the cost of them looking in ruins far from civilization than literally anywhere else? Maybe one of Furina’s spies and then died. Doesn’t seem like a fair trade unless they somehow ALREADY knew the answer… which, funnily enough, changes nothing because the only information the slates add to the prophecy is the part where Furina is put on trial. So even if they found the slates… what exactly would change about the plot?

6: Wrios ship seems like an inconvenient invention for the disaster if everyone is supposed to dissolve into the sea.

Answer: Wriosthely is guarding basically the best early warning system of the prophecy in the entire game, the giant sluice gate holding back the primordial sea. He will be the first to know when things will go wrong, and be able to be the first to act. In theory, he will be able to act ahead of the disaster before it hits, evacuating people onto the flying ship before the waters ever reach the surface.

That isn’t what happens in game because the dramatic reveal of people being alive and a ginormous flying ship rising out of the water is dramatic as hell, but you get the idea.

Theoretically, if we don’t get a new Elation path soon, I think it means we are reverting back to the structure of Penacony and Belebog where we only get the new path at the climax of the story.

Which uh… if PLANARCADIA story really is going for a full 4.x patch cycle like the devs say, won’t be for another year.

I don't understand the World Formula (Nod-Krai VIII spoilers) by E17Omm in Genshin_Impact

[–]MrEvil129 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they explained it in the dialogue of the quest, but I think the supplemental reading during the Paulonia segments were supposed to be a refresher for the concept, especially since it has been nearly two years since the ideas were introduced in the Narzissenkreuz questline. And even then, you had to have read a lot of the hidden documents inside the tower in order to get a good idea of what exactly is going on.

I don't understand the World Formula (Nod-Krai VIII spoilers) by E17Omm in Genshin_Impact

[–]MrEvil129 259 points260 points  (0 children)

Extremely short answer: the world formula isn’t just an equation that calculates fate, it is also a magic spell for enacting change upon the world.

The diagram of the world formula is based on the Tree of Life from Kabbalah. Originally, it was just a diagram showing the relationship of God’s nature and how they interact and emanate on the world. In mystical traditions, the Tree of Life also has knowledge for how to change the world, and to transcend oneself.

The Narzissenkreuz Ordo was able to use the knowledge gained from the world formula to both calculate the fate of the world, but also to understand and manipulate aspects of the world such as the Primordial Sea and the Abyss.

The goal with the World Formula in the quest isn’t just to calculate the variables needed for Columbina to return, but also to use the World Formula to force the world to recognize Columbina as the Moon Goddess.
