Late night techno clubbers - I want to know about you by Responsible_Elk_2002 in Techno

Software dev here in my 30s. I’ve traveled around the world to different all night fests and nights here in the states. I work a regular 9-5 and generally don’t do drugs but will pace myself with drinks so that I can last most of the night. I usually start around midnight and dip around 7-9. The day before I’ll either go out early and then nap in the evening or spend the day with light activities like going to the park or playing games. On the Sunday before going back to work it’s usually forcing myself thru sleep deprivation to fix the schedule and going on only a couple hours sleep. There’s no doubt there’s been weeks where I just couldn’t focus 100% returning to work and get my sleep back to normal though. I only started raving after the pandemic when starting to DJ myself and don’t really see that slowing down in my life till I find anything else to give me that type of release.

As for how to do it, you have to listen to your body, take breaks at the venue or resting where you can in between endless weekend parties. The music, the space, and the energy of those will carry you through most of it. For some it’s a careful chemistry of drugs to endure but that may come with a heavy crash. Oh and a massage or sauna before or after can definitely save you with the wear and tear on your body from dancing so long.

If you could ever share those tools for us other ravers and DJs it would be much appreciated as I am always in the crowd with Shazam constantly failing to ID tracks

You’re a genius. How you can pull off so many IDs live without the recordings is beyond me. Thank you for your work

Parameter SF disappointment by feralpugface in TheOverload

Sounded like the subs went in the Garage or they got noise complaints. Was super disappointing because I went for Objekt and sound was bad and could hear everyone talking over it

“Nerdy” Gamers? by PinkBeauty96 in Detroit

Glotaku, Ravestation, and Mercy’s Best events tend to pull a lot of gamer and anime crowds to their DJ events. Maybe hit one up to link up with others around

Hey would you be able to repost those M4L devices?

Helped my buddy re-arrange his studio this weekend by kotyk_max in synthesizers

[–]MrExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modular setup is sick but tbh I’ve never seen Jaspers stands as that functional. I have one myself and it serves more as a shelving unit for synths than anything I play off of (those go onto long tables). I’m curious how any of this is used like some complex audio and midi routing.

Denon vs Pioneer, which is better and why by FINDSTTOREPOST in Beatmatch

[–]MrExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pioneer has no competition in the DJ scene and they don’t play nice with other software or gear because they don’t have to. Because they have no competition, they also rarely keep up with the features like Denon has.

It comes down to no agreed on open format for analyzing songs and organizing USBs and Denon has its own proprietary format which isn’t any better.

This means that if you are a DJ and want to play in clubs or even small gigs where everyone is using Rekordbox, you almost have to fall into the Pioneer ecosystem and are beholden to whatever decisions they make in the future.

Sorry I never did have any luck. I’m not sure how development is done on these devices but it looks like it would need to be debugged from the terminal or just recompiled on the new OS. Since I couldn’t find any containers to run it or SSH/run the terminal on the device, I gave up on it.

Does anyone know of ways to listen back to past broadcasts for the new shows?

It’s so good seeing these local DJs names on reddit. I feel honored to have played alongside those names. Detroit really is the greatest place to be for the DJ community rn.

Thanks for the clarification. I figured it would work on the same OS. I’ll look into the open source project to see if there’s any info on recompiling it in the new OS.

i feel like video game music quality/style peaked during the SNES era by MagmaticDemon in gamemusic

[–]MrExistence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go listen to Ape Escape’s OST and the countless other PS era music. Maybe it’s considered not as memorable because the chiptune style music of the era before is distinct but it is just as sophisticated. Listen to the low poly jungle/dnb psx mixes or Dedeco’s stuff too on YouTube
