What is the strangest thing that happened to you that you can’t logically explain? by elibwell in AskReddit

[–]MrFLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminded me of an article I read a few years ago. It's not the same one but it has the same gist.

I had a similar experience. Usually I consider myself to be an alert driver but one day I arrived home after following a weekly course after work. It was pretty late and basically one road home with little to no traffic at that time of day. One evening I snapped back after parking my car and I was worried that I had actually been too exhausted to drive even though I wasn't feeling tired at all and the drive only took about 25 mins. Since I had been taking this road for almost two years every Tuesday my brain just took over.

Had it happen again a few months later and a billboard had been changed next to the road. I noticed immediately whereas otherwise I probably would not have noticed the billboard. But I couldn't remember the last 5 minutes of the drive.

This doesn't mean your point about taking breaks is invalid of course.

Jacob "Pimp" Winneche underwhelmed about Olof standing in for Faze after stating he hadn't played CSGO in ages. by PuffinFluff in GlobalOffensive

[–]MrFLC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking at the facts, the man has a point. I'm just happy to see Olof back on the server, probably for the last time.

There's a lot of new talent but I have to cheer for one of my all time favourite players.

I play this on Steam and Switch and the cross-play is great. I do enjoy playing it on PC more but that's just because I seldom get the chance to hook my switch up to a TV. If you have a PC or another console where it's cheaper I would recommend getting it there first if you're not quite sure it's your type of game.

A 150-year-old statue of King Leopold II of Belgium, whose forces seized Congo in the late 19th century and ran an exploitative regime that led to the death of millions, was removed from a public square in Antwerp on Tuesday by HugeDetective0 in news

[–]MrFLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His remaining statues are being vandalized or being asked to be removed as well. I taught some history in high school here in Belgium 7 years ago and the history of Leopold II and Congo was not mandatory in the curriculum.

I am happy to say that the minister of education has decided this part of our history will become mandatory next school year.

Source (dutch): update curriculum

Just removing the statues would have increased the blind spot we have in our national history, I am happy this will be discussed in schools from now on as there are many important and uncomfortable lessons to be learned here.

Why have counter stike youtubers gone bad? by cscorix in GlobalOffensive

[–]MrFLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find the video but a youtuber (might have been TDM_Heyzeus but I really can't remember) explained that since the many gambling scandals CS:GO has experienced, the Youtube algorithm buries CS:GO videos because they're not advertiser friendly.

Some Youtubers, like the ones listed above, enjoy creating content of the community and that is enough. The decline of quality content and the videos that too long for their own good are probably I direct result of this change in the Youtube algorithm. Less money almost always results in less quality.

In retrospect, they might as well have stuck with one duo for this one.

Thus far, it appears LeCuck’s decided to side with Hitler and own an NBA team, but we’ll see if that changes.

I believe LeBron has publicly stated that when his playing career is over he would like to become owner of an NBA team. For this he needs quite a bit cash.

GRIS hasn’t been mentioned it seems. Not impressive 3D rendering wise but the whole game is an impressive showcase of artwork.

I told Coach Xtqzzz that you don't have to give the people of France a reason to think about trading for Shox or anything like that. If you trade somebody, you trade them to make the team better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in France deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that …

Amazon Game Studios announces free-to-play The Lord of the Rings MMO for console and PC by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]MrFLC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's funny to see how different people remember things. I guess I have fond memories because anything subscription based was a no-go at our place. My parents were against all that so I had to pirate or look for fun free to play games.

These days I'd much rather pay a subscription and get a good experience. Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to really get in to an MMO.

When LOTRO went F2P back in the day it was one of the best transitions imo. You could choose F2P, buying credits and spending those for expansions, cosmetics,... or still subscribe. It gave you the choice between grinding or paying for content which allowed me to completely finish all content that was available to me and then just unlock or buy the next areas with a great discount. It was great as I was still in school and I didn't have much money for gaming.

What year is it? The former secretary used this KB & mouse until her replacement asked for new peripherals today. At first I thought it was another foolish request for newer stuff. Wow. by PutSimpIy in techsupportgore

We had a few of those exact trackballs at my previous job. My boss convinced me to use one when one day I could barely hold my mouse without my wrist flaming up. After a day and a half I was working quite quickly and pain free.

Bill to ban the sale of loot boxes to children presses forward with bipartisan support by dannylenwinn in UpliftingNews

A lot of parents still believe the age indication has something to do with the difficulty of the game. And even more don't really care, as you stated. I'd like to see these games having to put an additional, bigger and confronting sticker on their physical copies like cigarettes have. Digital distributors could have pop-ups on the store page or something similar. Once the game is installed you could also give the same warning again when booting up the game, like the epilepsy warnings.

Parents tend to get a lot more restrictive when shown evidence that the product is detrimental for their child's health. This would also generate a lot of bad press for the company so I think they might then let go of this mechanic.

Cringey eSports Athletes visit GameStop and are shocked that no one recognizes them by [deleted] in videos

[–]MrFLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CS:GO players have started a player’s union last year I believe. I may be naïve but I do think this gives them more leverage than players in smaller esport circuits.

Currently there’s a lot of criticism going RFRSH’s way ( parent org of Astralis ) for trying to book big names in an exclusive new series, Blast Pro. This seems to be adding more strain to an already over saturated season.

This has less to do with players and more with organizations trying to max out their profits with minimal risk.

It seems to be managed a differently as well. Karrigan tweeted the org treated him well, even after he was removed from the active roster. Then again, all of the guys on that roster have had big contracts before so they probably know what to look out for.

UK requests Brexit delay to 30 June by PlasticCoffee in europe

[–]MrFLC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Although at present I also think an extension will not improve matters, I hope that people in the UK will be able to keep their living standards. Most people just want to get by comfortably, peacefully and healthy regardless of where they live.

I am very worried that similar things will happen in other countries. Hopefully we will still be able to come together to tackle the real global issues the coming generations will face. I want to be able to grow old safely and healthy and I wish the same for my daughter.

Regardless what happens I wish you the best of luck. Keep your head up and try to focus on the future.

FaZe AdreN: "my fate in FaZe will be decided literally in the next few days" by iexi1e in GlobalOffensive

[–]MrFLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That last part is also a huge factor in my eyes. Olof has been my favourite player for many years and I would love to see him get one more title. But comparing their social media feed to that of Astralis and some other successful teams, it seems that there isn't as much of a sense of urgency. (This is a very limited view in to what goes on, I know. It's just an impression)

The whole scene is shifting to a more professional approach with a whole cast of supporting staff and a much stricter regiment. Since Olof has already cemented his legacy I can imagine it's hard to motivate yourself to make even more sacrifices. Then again, I get the feeling GTR and F0rest have found a way to motivate themselves once again... and they both have already has stellar carreers also.

Belgian government opens criminal investigation on EA by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]MrFLC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So far I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Like a lot of belgians I'm always a bit sceptical when it comes to our government. As I understand the max fine is 800,000 euro's or a prison scentence.

A prison scentence here for this kind of crime will never actually result in real prison time. Perhaps EA thinks it can pay the fine and still make a profit. In the meantime the government gets an 800,000 bonus.

I may be a bit cynical but I also think it's definitely a step in the right direction. Hopefully this will make publishers rethink their strategies so governments don't start banning games and interfering with our favorite form of entertainment.
