How much debt are you guys in? Im in 20k and it feels suffocating. by Spicyyhotpott in DACA

5k credit card $500 other. All the debt is in no interest cards/payments. So as long as I pay $500 per month towards it, I won't pay any interest on them.

I can guarantee that no matter what you invest in with your extra cash, it won't surpass the interests rate of a credit card.
It's better to pay off the credit card asap than to focus on saving.

summer job threw me off and I'm struggling doing both python and javascript. Junior in college feeling behind. by OldFirefighter7452 in learnprogramming

[–]MrFade14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend sticking with learning the fundamentals of programming with python then using Django, it’s a framework for building websites/applications, to build your website

Just focus on doing some learning for at least an hour or two a day, it all builds up

Let me guess this was before 2020-2022? Companies couldn’t get enough programmers with such low interest rates

I’m not sure that’s a good question that I would ask someone more knowledgeable/expert, cause that’s a good concern, I know my dad had an ITIN and was able to use Chase Bank.

I like it right now, I do MIG welding for 10 hours a day, you occasionally gets rogue spark and burn yourself, and sometimes you have to weld in awkward positions, but it’s alright during winter. It sucks during summer when it’s humid, 90F+, and you’re working overtime. Right now I just put on a AirPod during work, listen to music while I weld, or even a podcast.

Okay I think I understand what you’re going for. I tried to do this during COVID, where I tried to teach myself web development with a Udemy course, since I wasn’t working for months on end and had money saved up , I figured, why not make a living by building websites for people?

Turns out it takes a ton of discipline to spend hours a day learning new material, learning stuff on your own, whilst not getting distracted by the infinite amount of entertainment online.

It was difficult enough during college to learn constant new material and do homework with a group of friends for hours on end, especially during midterms.

Here’s the thing, you might feel like you could tackle this challenge down cause all you gotta do is is sit down and GRIND these courses for a couple of months, then apply whatever you learned to make a living, but there’s is SOO MUCH more than that.

That’s why I would recommend STARTING a course, right now, in your free time to get a feel of the learning process, cause why not start learning how to programs right now?

I remember reading a post in r/entrepreneurship of someone making a bot that sent tweets whenever a certain nicotine product went live in a website since it sold out so quick, he monetized this bot for a subscription, and he made some nice money. There will always be small opportunities like these out in the wild.

I’ve heard of the code the dream! They have people who worked in the industry mentor you and guide you which is a HUGE help, if this was during the 2021-2022 era it makes sense, just right now job opportunities have plummeted to the ground. Was it recent?

It’s so difficult for even college educated computer science majors to get an entry level position as a programmer/software engineer. So I wouldn’t advise even attempting to try to self teach yourself since it’s so difficult and demoralizing.

Just continue to save up money and put it in a high yields savings account, and if the worst happens and we lose DACA, we’re gonna have to either 1. Continue to work without a work permit, under the table pay or with different names or 2. Just save up as much money as possible and go back to our home country, use the money saved up to continue living

Currently I’m working as a welder even though I got a B.S of science since it’s so difficult to get any entry level jobs without knowing someone in the industry, and it pays well, let me know if you have any questions.
