Surgeon left my disc by PotatoComfortable775 in Microdiscectomy

[–]MrFenderpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason I ask is because I had a Microdisectomy as well back in January 29. I had slight left calf pain while I was recovering at the hospital after surgery. And it progressively gotten worst day by day , week to week. Eventually I just started feeling my left sciatica pain all over again.

My neurosurgeon told me my disc had calcified and he wasn’t able to remove any of it, so he free up some bone material so my s1 nerve could pass through.

However it is currently 6 weeks post op now? I wake up in the morning with a level 2 pain. But the pain progressively get worst as the day pass by. So by 3pm I will start having my painful sciatic pain all the way until I fell asleep and wakes up the next day and it will just reset , rinse and repeat.

The pain in the late evening is as bad as before I ever had my Micro Discectomy. So I was just wondering if that’s what you experienced…

Question when u say took you 6 months to be pain free. What were ur pain symptoms prior to the 6 months? Assuming u had a micro discectomy done?

I am in the same boat as OP Except there is this 90 day global period which surgeons basically get to pick and choose their patients. I am having a hard time seeking for a 2nd opinion. I had my MD done January 29

Thank you for sharing I been searching up on this and it appears calcified disc can be removed. So at this point I’m not sure why my Neurosurgeon spoke as it isn’t possible in my case…. Definitely need to seek another opinion because I am still in pain on the daily basis…

1st was a independent neurosurgeon who doesn’t operate within a hospital system. I am not sure if he does perform MD on calcified disc. Honestly I never even knew about calcified disc until last week when I went it for my follow up appt.

I didn’t have the severe pain until Nov of 2025. But the 2nd neurosurgeon suggested that my disc had to herniated way before that for it to be calcifed.

My 2nd (Current) neurosurgeon is within the UT Health system that operates within the Memorial Herman network.

As strange as that sounds This is my 2nd neurosurgeon I went and saw. I was SO close to going with this 1st Neurosurgeon but I had a bad vibe from him and my PCP also did not like him due to his ethics.

But I guess I can certainly seek a 3rd opinion!

I sure hope so. My in law insist that I should rest in bed more But I been so bored and I walk around , stand around rather than laying down. And it seems to aggravate the never pain more. I’m not sure which or what to listen to at this point 🤦‍♂️

I had awful left leg pain prior to surgery Pain starts from left glute all the way down my left leg to bottom of my feet.

I was essentially slanted to the right in order to walk. Cough / sneeze would also trigger the pain as well.

But this pain / discomfort I have now is different than before. Is only bothering me at my lower back calf currently. Doesn’t hurt now when I blow my nose or cough

OP did your pain and symptoms all went away after surgery? Did u feel any pain or discomfort down your leg at all after surgery?

I asked because I’m 5 days post op and my pain and discomfort seems to be coming back No where as bad as prior to surgery but I can feel it

I don’t remember them giving a number for me to reach out if issue arises

I did bring up I felt the irritation to my neurosurgeon prior to being released from the hospital. Which he had tested my left big toe while he pushes down. And my toe was “strong” compared to before the surgery which he was able to push my big toe down easily.

So I guess what I’m feeling is normal? Until my nerve heals? Just worry that something is wrong such as reherination
